Cary Grant plays the HarpHe does a terrific job playing this instrument and often entertains his guests at his home and other places that loves to hear his music. My grandfather once heard him played his harp and he was so gifted that people was in awe of his performance. That's why I have this photo for me to share with you! I had no idea he played a musical instrument of any kind. I keep saying Cary Grant is my favourite actor but I've never read a biography of him, or any other actor or actress, come to think of it. Maybe I'll try to find out some time if there's a good one of Grant. Best Hollywood books I ever read were the two David Niven ones, The Moon's a Balloon and Bring on the Empty Horses, both highly recommended. (edit: now I think of it, I have read the Nick Tosches bio of Dean Martin, and it was pretty good. I have the one Jerry Lewis wrote, Dean and Me, but haven't read it yet.

Thanks for posting this photo from The Bishop's Wife and of course for the other photos too, Mecha. You have a great collection--it goes without saying (but I'll say it anyway ...) And wow, your grandfather actually attended a performance of Cary Grant playing the harp? Do you have any details--location (California?), timeframe, venue, etc.?

I've heard good things about the Tosches book, you've reminded me that it's on my list to buy--thanks. I have the Jerry Lewis "Dean and Me" book, I found the most interesting parts were when he discusses their early years and when discussing comedy in general. Lewis does seem to bend over backwards to be complimentary to Dean throughout, including when writing about their break up. Still, a worthwhile read for those interested in Martin and Lewis (which I am). Dyan Cannon's recent autobiography really does a number on Grant. Stay away if you're a Grant fan.

And wow, your grandfather actually attended a performance of Cary Grant playing the harp? Do you have any details--location (California?), timeframe, venue, etc.? Farrar, Before and During - The Bishop's Wife back in 1947, he had to learn how to play the Harp - according to my friend he was excellent in basic sense of a way - meaning that he was good enough to play occasionally; but his Hollywood Career was so busy that he did not have much time to play it. So, he was an occasional harp player to a degree. My Grandfather was in the Military (as a reserve) from 1945 to 1951 (six years) before getting out. He heard him play the Harp for 20 minutes at a GI Function in San Francisco in 1950 that was a treat for him to hear Mr. Grant. He was in WW2 from mid-1943 to the end - primarily serving the Far East as a Cook. So he was in the Army from 1943 to 1951 - serving just eight years earning the rank of Sergeant. That function was a spur of the moment for Mr. Grant.

A trio of Eleanor Parker Beauties ... My favs!I just adore the movies that she starred in and there wasn't bad movie among them. I just watched "Sounds of Music" the other day at my friend house and she was sensational as Elsa von Schraeder in this glorious 1965 movie. Unfortunately, I don't have any pictures of her in it. I need to get some.

I Was a Male War Bride - 1949 Movie Starring Cary Grant and Ann Sheridan It is without a shadow of the doubt, my favorite movie in 1949. I just loved the great chemistry of these two actors cranking up one silly adventure after the another and making the romance more and more serious along the way and doing what they do best. Here's the trailer below you ... It will make you laugh!

Cary Grant and Ginger Rogers in Monkey Business - a 1952 FilmI just love this movie and it's full of energy and romance with lots of other factors like the potion correcting his vision and along the fact he suddenly feels like a teenager again. It's a great comedy and also starred Marilyn Monroe, Charles Coburn, and others. Directed by Howard Hawks. I recommend this movie.
