The NFL's ratings were down 8% from 2015 to 2016. The first week ratings this year were down 12%. That was before the kneeling hoopla but also during a major hurricane.
The point is, that NFL ratings have been trending downward and I'm not sure how much of that you can realistically blame on kneeling. Keep in mind that people keep abandoning cable and broadcast for streaming options. I don't believe the latter are picked up well, if at all, by the ratings systems.

I haven't watched a game since this nonsense protest. I'm sure there's thousands like me. And you better believe that their sponsors are not happy.

I know you forgot to put a winking emoticon ( ) at the end of that statement, right? If you're right, there must be thousands of people on the waiting list for rhinoplasty.

There really are a lot of people that HATE he kneeling during our National Anthem. No wink emoticon, sorry. Well, as you said, others' mileage varies. I hate seeing the disrespect shown the anthem by countless "singers" who twist and turn it out of all recognizable shape while countless others in the stands swig beer, keep their hats on, use their phones, boo Americans exercising their constitutional rights, and otherwise comport themselves like louts. I hate the forced patriotism and phony piety of "God Bless America" in the seventh inning of every single baseball game played in the United States since 2001, too. But I'm not going to turn off the game because of them. Because, well, to each his own.

If you think honoring the flag is more important than honoring the freedom and ideals it represents, next time you go to a restaurant please ask if you can order the menu instead of the food and see how satisfying the menu is.

At the risk of derailing the thread further, I get very tired of every protest being "too much." Doesn't matter what it is...how peaceful...how non-threatening...it's too much.

I'm sure King George III and his cronies felt the same way about all the protests in the colonies too. Can't they just honor their country no matter what? -M

At the risk of derailing the thread further, I get very tired of every protest being "too much." Doesn't matter what it is...how peaceful...how non-threatening...it's too much. If kneeling during the anthem is the height of disrespect, what would those who are so offended have made of the protests of John Carlos, Tommie Smith, Kareem Abdul-Jabbar, Vincent Matthews, Wayne Collett, Mahmoud Abdul-Rauf, Sam Perkins, Carlos Delgado, Toni Smith and Deidra Chatman -- among many others -- who have dared to stand apart from their teams, not to stand at all, not to be be present for, and/or turn their backs or raise their fists during the playing of the anthem. If we're learning anything these last ten months, I hope it is that our hold on true freedom is a tenuous one at best, which is why it must always be protected.

If you really think that the decreasing ratings has nothing to do with the kneeling, then you are purposely being obtuse.

And I don't have a right to hold a protest while I'm delivering mail.

If you really think that the decreasing ratings has nothing to do with the kneeling, then you are purposely being obtuse. And anyone saying it is the only or even the main factor is blowing smoke without any substantial evidence. Again...ratings were down from 2015 to 2016. Through week seven of of 2017 NFL ratings were down 5% from 2016, which is less than the 8% drop from 2015 to 2016. Network Prime-Time programming was down 8% for the the first month of the 2017 season. So NFL ratings are down less then television ratings in general. Is kneeling hurting ratings? Maybe. Is it the prime issue? Actual numbers, as opposed to 'feelings' would tend to say that it's at worst one of many factors.
