All I know is recently reading Batman #181 so long after reading it in it's original edition I realized how freaking goofy it was! Both stories are signed/credited to Bob Kane, and as far as I'm concerned he's welcome to own these corny dated versions of Batman and Robin. "There they are Dick!" "You men are such fools!" "You are luscious dreamboat!" One of my favorite fun story to read. Your description of freaking goofy is spot on and I can see clearly where you are coming from.

Does the new live action Star Wars show signal the end of the franchise as we know it ?

Does the new live action Star Wars show signal the end of the franchise as we know it ? How so? I mean, every time there's a new Star Wars thing fans whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine and whine. So if fans didn't cauterwaul about the new show like a collicy infant who you keep looking at the pillow and then looking at their windpipe and thinking "Maybe... maybe it would be better for both of us? I mean, in the long run?"" then maybe that WOULD signal the end of the franchise? (There is a joke I wanted to work into this which I have been workshopping. It was like "They were going to put some Star Wars fans in the new movie but since this would entail that Star Wars stop bitching for twenty GOD DAMN seconds in a row it would be impossible for anyone to maintain their suspension of disbelief, given the grounded Star Wars universe of tie fighters and perfect sound in the vacuum of space and Wookies and stuff. The joke is not quite done but it is getting there. )

I'm not a fan of the Star Wars movies, it's just a question. I'm too old to whine about a movie that isn't really important to me. If they have abandoned the big budget motion pictures for the small screen , maybe it means they have lost confidence in the movies. Although, I will say that this TV show must have a big per episode budget.

I don't think they've lost confidence, they're using the show to promote the new streaming service. Word is the budget for the 1st Season was close to that of a movie (I saw 100m somewhere)
Honestly, I think people what TV alot more than movies these days. There are so many things on Netflix that they call 'season 1' of a series when they're really a movie (4 - 8 25 minute episodes)

It is no more the end of Star Wars than the Disney+ Marvel shows are the end of the MCU. -M

I know if the last Jedi movie but i read it was the last part of the saga. It's the last part of the nine-film saga that began in 1977, with the original Star Wars film, yes. But no way is it the end of SW films as a whole. I'm sure Disney still has lots more (probably largely unnecessary) untold stories up their sleeve that will keep the franchise in cinemas for many years to come.

I find it quite hilarious how much Lucas made a point of "hating" a certain green eared mercenary rabbit that Marvel inserted into "his" beloved Star Wars and now he has to live with Disney as they do whatever they damn well please with "his" beloved Star Wars and tossing aside any and or all of his concepts for the final trilogy. Karma sure is a beyotch ain't it?!?

I've been talking to Star Wars ppl IRL and they're just so much more obnoxious than comics people. Like I don't get any sense of joy from their engagement with their favorite thing. And, 'yknow, I'm at least kind of interested in anything nerdy but these conversations are downright excrutiating. If you outgrew Star Wars let it go. It's fine. The TV show probably means that Star Wars is copying the Marvel model and trying to expand the brand. I generally get the sense that when a company doesn't have faith in a particular franchise they let it lay fallow for a couple years and then try to capatilize on a nostalgic reboot... So keeping an under-performing property in the public eye is seen as a bad strategy. There are probably counter-examples to this, I'm not actually a huge movie/TV guy.

I thought the first 2 movies SW and ESB, were very good. It felt like it was downhill from there for me. I did think that the 3rd of the second trilogy, Revenge of the Sith, was good , but dark.

Have you seen the film Rogue One: A Star Wars Story? If not, you should check it out. For my money, it's the best SW film since the original trilogy.
