probably won't mean a whole lot but to those of us "of a certain age" but R.I.P. Miss Doris Day www.apnews.com/b9a04d9ab2ce4276b2f6bdb6b39af585she was well known for her "good girl" parts in films, her singing, and her daytime talk show. likely her most famous recording, which I grew up hearing my Mother listen to over and over. . she LOVED this song: although her cover of this, was a big hit too:

Loved the films with Rick Hudson; but, my favorite of her movies is The Glass Bottom Boat. Both nicely romantic and outrageously funny, directed by former Warner animation director Frank Tashlin (Tashlin was great with visual mayhem in his comedies, including a couple of Jerry Lewis' films).
Still, the big song for the WW2 Generations is "Sentimental Journey, when she was the queen of Big Band singers.

Just saw that Tim Conway passed away at the age of 85.
I was too young for The Carol Burnett Show, but my dad was a big fan of Dorf and I would watch the videos with him.

The Carol Burnett Show was insanely funny. And Conway and Korman were the two main reasons. And watching Conway crack up Harvey Korman was always a joy. R.I.P.

Doris Day first became famous as a big-band singer. How many people are left who can say that? Was she the last?

My wife is a huge fan of TCBS, but she grew up watching it with her father. In fact, just as I was writing this, I heard her from the other room call out "Oh, man, Tim Conway died, and right after Doris Day." Despite being only 46, my wife has an old soul. Her favorite actor is Gene Kelly, and her favorite movies are "Singin' in the Rain", "Roman Holiday", "An American in Paris", and "Casablanca". She much prefers the older, simpler things in the world, because that is what she was raised on and what she is comfortable with.

In television time that's a significant amount, particularly when you're talking about stuff you saw as kids.

Aw, mannnnnnnnnnn...................
Tim Conway was a huge favorite in our household. We loved the Carol Burnett Show; but, because our CBS affiliate was a fair distance away, couldn't see it much, unless we were visiting relatives, over a weekend. My brother and I loved McHale's Navy, which played in syndication, when I was in junior high. We were taken to see Disney's The Apple Dumpling Gang, with the excellent pairing of Conway and Donn Knotts, in a pretty decent comedy (for Disney, in the 70s). Not as much of a fn of Dorf; but, it made him a lot of money.
Conway was just a gentle, massively funny man and did much to make the world a brighter place, just by making people crack up.
He was also an Army veteran, though by his account he spent a lot of time under disciplinary action, due to his sense of humor (such as going inside a closed rec hall and sleeping, then forgetting his rifle, leading him to return to guard duty with a fourescent tube, instead. The officer on duty noticed.).
Nothing was more delightful than watching Tim Conway bust up harvey Korman.
