So sorry to read of your loss, Cody, but what a beautiful legacy she leaves behind. I will be a lucky man if, when my time comes, I am survived by a child who celebrates me the way you celebrate your mother.

Wikipedia is now reporting that comics historian Bill Schelly succumbed to multiple myeloma on Thursday, Sept. 12. Rumors swirled around the comics-history community yesterday; the news has now been confirmed.
Bill wrote a lot of comics history, particularly focusing on the history of fandom. His bibliography, lifted from Wikipedia:

RIP to Ric Ocasek, frontman for the Cars, who passed at age 75 (as the NYPD reported) or 70 (as public records indicate). -M Loved the Cars. Their debut album really was a greatest hits album. Another part of my teen/young adult life has passed on. RIP Ric Ocasek. Thanks for the great music.

RIP Daniel Johnston, "outsider" artist and "lo-fi" singer-songwriter. His work seemed to emerge from a collective pop culture id. He wore his love of classic monster movies and comic books on his sleeve.

Cokie Roberts ... I heard her speak in Baltimore once and she is full of wisdom and insights and I find her informed and straight to the point. I wished that I heard her more.

RIP to Aron Eisenberg, best known for his role as Nog on Star Trek Deep Space Nine. He was only 50. -M I was pretty surprised to read that, he had a great character arc on DS9

RIP to actor Sid Haig, who died at the age of 80. He appeared in a number of films (including Foxie Brown *and* Jackie Brown) and even more TV shows; I think a lot of people of a certain age probably remember him best as the evil Dragos on the live-action Saturday morning TV show Jason of Star Command.

RIP to a Legend I bought this t-shirt that I was lucky enough to actually have him sign. One of my favorite horror movie actors ever. He will be missed.

I was just watching him in Wizards of the Lost Kingdom II the other day (MST3K version). He was unforgettable in Spider Baby.

RIP to the Grateful Dead's lyricist Robert Hunter. www.rollingstone.com/music/music-news/robert-hunter-grateful-dead-dead-889788/Hunter was a truly great, great writer, who penned the words to such Dead classics as "Dark Star", "Ripple", "Friend of the Devil", and "Mountains of the Moon", among others. He also worked with Dylan on occasion, co-writing one of Bob's best songs from the 1980s, "Silvio". For me though, it's the Dead's "Box of Rain" -- which can make me moisten-eyed any time I hear it -- that is his crowning glory.

Thanks for posting that, Confessor. As one of the senior resident Deadheads here, I've had a Hunter lyric in my ears or in my head almost every day of the last 45 years. Hunter wrote several songs that seem appropriate for memorial services. "Box of Rain" was written with bassist Phil Lesh when Phil's father was dying. A couple of others: "Brokedown Palace" from a recent album by Joan Osborne, who sang with the band post-Garcia, when they were known as "The Dead". And "He's Gone" by the Grateful Dead from 1989.

I really liked Hunter's Amagamalin St. album. He was a great lyricist. I transferred a lot of live shows from tape from when he was in The Dinosaurs and his parts were always a highlight (and among some other great talents)! Sorry my favorite Spider Baby actor has passed also.
