Wait...really? That's a thing? That's...ridiculous. That person should never be allowed to write anything again. Ever. Not only should they not be allowed to write comics again, they shouldn't be allowed to read them, either. Sounds like a Latin gag, at the beginning of a Road Runner cartoon.

yeah, does anyone know who was responsible for that? I only found out about it a little while ago, so I'm assuming that it was a later addition, as badwolf said.

Mark Gruenwald came up with "Blackagar Boltagon." Those of you suggesting he should never write again will be happy to know he won't be.
Cei-U! But it WAS a dumb idea!

Gruenwald did two projects that I like, the first Squadron Supreme 12 issue Mini series and the Captain America "Fighting Chance" storyline that ran from # 425-443.

Why would anyone shorten Blackagar Boltagon to Black Bolt anyway? I'd expect people close enough not to refer to him by his full name or by his title to call him "Blackie" or "Beebee".
What was wrong with Black Bolt? Too super-heroicky for a monarch? For crying out loud, he dresses like a super-hero. Why couldn't he have a fancy title? Maurice Richard was nicknamed "the rocket". I don't see why the king of the Inhumans, who flies and dresses in black, couldn't be called Black Bolt.
Which I'm fairly sure was Jack and Stan's idea.

It was definitely a solution in search of a problem.

As much as i deride digital, I will go to my MU instead of digging out my actual copies because of laziness. There I said it. Sniff, sniff

I have never understood what makes Steve Ditko special.
There I said it.

I have never understood what makes Steve Ditko special. There I said it. I don't think there's another artist who can identify and portray the dramatic and emotional center of a scene better than Ditko. He pinpoints and drives home the critical points of each story.

When a mere wee bairn, I couldn't stand the art of Ditko. Even at the age of 9, I ignored his work, to the point of seeking out Frank Brunner Dr. Strange at flea-markets to assuage my 'yuck' response to Ditko's work. But the moment I had to work in a 'DC Style' vs 'Marvel Method', then learning of the woeful printing-quality hurdles faced by Marvel in the early 1960's by Ditko, factoring that into what I and others had to face regarding the pre-digital printing paradigms of the day...
... I 'took things into account', and suddenly embraced Ditko wholeheartedly. His aesthetic still s**t me off, but his ACHIEVEMENTS outweighed those aesthetics to a level which (no offence) cannot be appreciated by those whom have never had to tell a 'full story' with a LOT of dialogue in a mere 19 or 20 pages, which was the polar opposite of the 'decompressed-c**p' we've all faced for the past 15 years or more.
Trying to tell a story that (by all rights) merits 60 pages, then squeezing that into 20 pages, while making the reader feel the entire narrative experience is 'smooth, with no bumps in the road', is an achievement FEW can lay claim to.
