Part A - Fantastic Four Favorite Run - Part 1 of 2I'm going a round about way to describe my favorite run of the Fantastic Four of which began in Issue #52 and ended in Issue 56. Before I begin here ... I wanted to give a special thanks to the following members who sent me PM to help me remember what issues were and and why ... they sent me PM about it and I will tag them for their assistance of the two posts that I will be doing today and hopefully my internet connections will be good and all that. chaykinstevens md62 Snikts and Stones Farrar So, let begin with Issue #52 showing below ... I don't remember this cover at all and that's why I had a hard time finding it and once I figure out with the help of the four members above me - it's all makes sense to me. It was this Cover that I do remember seeing it and it was a Variant back in those days. I remember seeing this one and I read that story back then on loan with another dear friend back then. It's a great cover and I confirm it was a variant cover because my friend Jeff helped me find it. BLACK PANTHER INTRODUCTION In this issue here it was first time I read anything about the Black Panther who later became a big favorite character in Marvel Universe and I was impressed by the way they handle this character making it very unique, unusual in terms of seeing Jungle and Advanced Technology of which stunned the Fantastic Four and all that. In this issue was introducing of two characters - Black Panther and Wyatt Wingfoot a good friend of Johnny Storm of whom he met in College - I think (my memory maybe off here) anyway this issue was the introduction of these characters of which it was a story that the Fantastic Four soon will regret going there. It was chaykinstevens that helped me that this issue that Wyatt Wingfoot warned the THE THING about the possible traps and even my memory served that the great MISTER FANTASTIC also told THE THING that anything that you touched could be a possible booby trap and that's where the unique JUNGLE and TECHNOLOGY has a nasty way of giving the Fantastic Four the run for their Money here and there. Black Panther eventually trapped all four members of the FANTASTIC FOUR ... Anyway it was a great adventure and a fun reading that story ... with these characters below ... Then, in the Next Issue ... KLAW was introduced of which md62 jarred my memory here.

Part A - Fantastic Four Favorite Run - Part 2 of 2The KLAW is one of those Villain in Marvel Comics History that's was one of the most deadliest opponent that the Fantastic Four ever had to dealt with and it was this issue in FF that introduce him. Both md62 and Farrar helped me with that along with chaykinstevens & Snikts and Stones helped me with other things that greatly assisted in this project of mine. Back to the KLAW ... it was that dreaded SILVER THING on his left arm that causes a lot of problems for the Fantastic Four and he was also a blasted enemy of the BLACK PANTHER as well. When, you dealt in your hands of a major new villain that can handle both the FANTASTIC FOUR and BLACK PANTHER in one Adventure you got one heck of a ride and that issue is one of my favorite issue of all time and I remember reading it ... like it was yesterday and I don't recall much of the details but it was murderous by design that the KLAW managed to give both FF and the Black Panther the run for their money. This issue is filled with unexpected twists and turns that reminded me all the problems that the Fantastic Four had to endure here. The KLAW was right in the middle and that's why he is one of my favorite villains in Marvel Comics History. If I had to do a Number 50 he would be in the top 10 for sure. If any villain can handle both FF and BLACK PANTHER at the same time - got be a noteworthy villain to counter. I just loved Issue #53

Black Panther is wearing his revised mask which he started wearing for a short time in 1968. #52 was printed in 1966. Plus there is no # or price on the cover.

It's become pretty well-known that it was a proposed, rejected cover idea by Kirby. It pops up in fanzines, internet sites, Masterworks, Essentials, etc. Like md62, I too am unware that this was ever actually used as a cover much later on, say for a reprint of this FF-Black Panther arc. @mechagodzilla , does your friend have any details? If not, no worries. I'm just curious.

FarrarMy dear friend is out power and according to the outage map that my Power Company provides he should be back on in 5-7 hours from now. He's probably at his brother's place for the time being and I don't know where that place is.

BEST RUNS of the FANTASTIC FOUR COMICSFor me personally, this is my favorite Marvel Team of all time; I personally prefer this team over the AVENGERS any day, anytime, and anywhere. To me, the Avengers did cut out for me as well as the Fantastic Four. The Fantastic Four is more original than the Avengers ever were and my own mind - I prefer the X-Men over the Avengers any day despite how I ranked them in this countdown. I had the Avengers at #18 and the Fantastic Four at #12 and rightly so. Fantastic Four is more well rounded than the Avengers - for one thing ... Mister Fantastic is more a leader, an inventor, and a respected scientist, Invisible Girl in the way they created her was very unique, original, and more importantly gave the group a dynamic that's writers loved. The Thing is a brute, an enigma, a soul, and more importantly gave the group - Super Strength in times of crisis; and last and not least the Human Torch, Sue (Invisible Girl) Storm little brother that gave the group an interesting dynamic and the only hero that can fly. He is very useful in terms of dynamics and able to recon and do things that neither Mister Fantastic, Invisible Girl, and the Thing can't do - travel great distances and able to scout out dangers that Mister Fantastic can map out a plan. Now, getting to the best runs of the Fantastic Four: Number One: Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #44-67 (1965-1967) GOLD MEDAL RUNReasons: Lee and Kirby created Galactus, Silver Surfer, Klaw, and how slew of characters like the Black Panther appeared and the Inhumans as well that created Medusa and Black Bolt. It was unreal run and my favorite issues started in #52 and ended in #56. It was a blast and every story from #44 to #67 were grand. If I had the $$$$$ ... I would buy all these issues and that's would be my Fantastic Four Collection right there. Number Two: Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #1-10 (1961-1963) SILVER MEDAL RUNReasons: Lee and Kirby ... just created a gem in the name of the Fantastic Four starting with issue #1 and move on to issue #10 and the main reason of this great run of ten comics is the existence of Doctor Doom - Fantastic Four chief villain a - Super Villain on a verge of World Domination and more importantly gave the reader something different and imagination by both Lee and Kirby ran wild during this time frame of where they had to counter invasions from beings of the another world and it's has a great science fiction appeal that attracted readers of all likes. Number Three: Fantastic Four Vol. 1 #257-262 (1983-1984) BRONZE MEDAL RUNReasons: It was a masterpiece of John Byrne who combined his skills as a writer and an artist in this series of books that's remains a fan favorites for years - I consider him one of the best of his game and I think his artwork in these books are fantastic. He was a big change over Lee and Kirby and one of his greatest work is to bring back Doctor Doom and Galactus and made some changes to the heroes personalities to make the more human and redefined them to the point that a relationship with each other means something and has to be taken care of. His entire run from #232 to #293 a run of 61 issues is amazing thing for one man to tackle it. I was shocked to see a writer/artist combo to do 61 issues by himself! Stan Lee and Jack KirbyJohn ByrneThese three living legends together made the Fantastic Four Great and Imaginative ... and that's why I consider the Fantastic Four the best Marvel Team Book of All Time.Fantastic Four #1

BEST COSTUME FOR INVISIBLE GIRLThis is the best costume for the Invisible Girl that I ever seen in Comics; it's clean, defined, and perfect for crime-fighting in her role in the FF. I like the simplicity, the clean lines, it's perfect for her own benefit as one of the premier superheroine in Marvel History. It's trendsetting and elegant. You just can't go wrong with it.

WORST COSTUME(S) OF THE INVISIBLE GIRLThere were actually two of them one of them of her role as MALICE and the Other one is too SHOCKING for my TASTE. MALICEI literally hate this costume when they introduce it back in the Bronze Age I think and I just can't believe they made this change for her to rattle the Fantastic Four fans and I just had a hard time understanding why they did this. I did not read any of her adventures in this series because it too bizarre for me to look at. It's downright hideous! SHOCKINGOne day, I went to my local LCS to pick up the latest Fantastic Four Comics on an advice of a friend and I was curious about it and (my friend just wanted to make sure that I see it) I flipped and stunned by the SHOCK VALUE of Marvel Comics transforming her into a Sex Symbol of the worst way possible. Put it this way the Artist that did this ... you should watch this short Hogan's Heroes Clip ... Make sure the SOUND is on ... it's only 13 seconds ... That's how I feel about this stupid, sexy, shocking costume for the Invisible Girl ... That's pretty much sum up my views of the worst costumes of Invisible Girl and/or Woman!

FantasticarWas introduced in Fantastic Four #3 and this gave it's Science Fiction Feel that I was talking about earlier during the Lee & Kirby Run from FF #1 to FF #10. It was totally unusual to see a flying car that Mister Fantastic designed and I wasn't prepared for that because I thought it was Human Torch did all the recon for the team and sometimes the rest of them needed flight transportation of the wildest of them of all ... The Fantasticar!Fantastic Four #3A panel inside Fantastic Four #3. I just find it cool and extremely wild ride for the Fantastic Four Team and that's alone made this magazine run on of the greatest in Marvel Comics History.

Two Versions of the FantasticarFrom WikipediaFantasticar Mk. IThe original Fantasticar, which debuted in Fantastic Four #3 (Mar. 1962), was an oval-like flying car that could split apart into multiple sections piloted by individual members of the Fantastic Four, a model which would be maintained in all later versions. This model, like all other models used when the Fantastic Four lived in the Baxter Building was stored in the top floor hangars. This design has often been ridiculed as looking like a "flying bathtub" by many, and it was later replaced. Fantasticar Mk. IIThis version, seen by many as the "classic" Fantasticar, debuted in Fantastic Four #12 (Mar. 1963) and is said to have been built by both Reed Richards and the Human Torch. It is 27 feet long, and can separate into four individual flying segments. It has VTOL capabilities and is powered by electric fans and jet turbines. It can go up to 550 mph, with a maximum altitude of 30,000 feet. While each individual pod was more clearly defined on this model, it had a number of improvements, including a transparent bulletproof windshield which could cover the entire pod, allowing for travel in extra-hazardous circumstances. This model also had a much better range and top speed, as it was able to traverse nearly the entire continental United States in a short period of time and has a range of over 3000 miles. There would be other updates of the Fantasticar over the years, however most would be modifications on these first two designs. From MeMister Fantastic is quite an inventor and he designed a great flying car for his team and I just loved this transportation that really hits the imagination scale up to a level that's truly amazing thing to see ... I just loved the ideas of Stan Lee and Jack Kirby came up during the creation of Fantastic Four #3.

Having them off the board temporarily and bringing them back later, refreshened, with a new team and possibly an updating of their status in the Marvel U, making them more prevalent instead of shunted to pretty much their own title, will help to elevate them to their former glory.
