My mistake, I thought you were leaving in a few weeks. You picked the best time because kids go back to school in September.

I'm surprised that you got such an inexpensive price at the start of the Summer vacation season. Have a great trip ! Is late September to mid-October summer vacation season? I would've thought that would be June to mid-August (or even early September). I have no idea really though. Something I have come to realise about the Mississippi delta region, from looking online and also talking to a friend who visited the area about 5 years ago, is that there's actually precious little tangible "blues stuff" to see anymore. There's the Delta Blues Museum in Clarksdale, which I'll definitely be visiting, and I want to see both the legendary crossroads, where Robert Johnson supposedly sold his soul (depending who you believe it's either the crossroads of Highways 49 & 61 in Clarksdale, or it's the one outside Dockery Farms). There's also the Ground Zero blues club in Clarksdale, which looks like it'll be worth a visit. But other than that, there's really not much. When you look at the Blues Trail website, which someone (I think maybe Slam or mrp) was kind enough to link me to, it's basically a collection of plaques at historic locations, saying that such-and-such happened here or so-and-so died here or this-and-that building once stood on this spot etc. There's very little left that's actually tangible. Of course, I also just want to soak up the delta scenery and atmosphere, and interract with the locals, but yeah...it's surprising to me just how little is left that's related to the blues. I'm trying to convince my wife to let us stay in an old share-cropper's shack on a cotton plantation on the banks of the Tallahatchie River ("Ode to Billy Joe" anyone?), but she seems dubious about that. I married a posh Windsor girl, and she don't like roughing it! The other thing that's become apparent from my internet research, and things I've read on the Mississippi city-data.com forum that Rob Allen linked me to, is that the delta region of Mississippi is still cripplingly poor. There is a big exhibit on Outlaw Country in the 70s at the Country Music Hall of Fame running through Feb 2021. I'm jealous. You're going to hit a ton of places I want to go.

I am definitely going to hit the Country Music Hall of Fame and Museum. I also want to drive south from Nashville to Franklin to see some of the Civil War history that they have there (hopefully with a guided tour or something). I believe that nearby Carnton Plantation served as a Confederate field hospital after the Battle of Franklin. There's a graveyard for the Confederate soldiers that perished there.

Some good news and some bad news:
The good news: My sister is finally breaking up with her cheap, lying scuzzball boyfriend.
The bad news: It won't be 'til at least tomorrow that he comes to collect his junk and get out of our lives for good. Until that happens, my sister remains a nervous, paranoid wreck.

Yesterday was a double-whammy of "Dude, you're getting old" for me. To start the day, I got my first pair of reading glasses. They had to be prescription due to my issues with my right eye, so I put off doing it for longer than I should have, but I couldn't wait any longer. Then yesterday afternoon, my older daughter got braces, yet another reminder that she is growing up way too fast. Duragizer, glad to hear about your sister dumping the dead weight loser, and sorry it took so long for her to do it. Even when we know someone is bad for us, love makes us do stupid things, like hold onto a relationship that is nothing but destructive and harmful. Here's hoping she moves forward to getting her life in order quickly after this guy hits the bricks.

My next couple of days are devoted to compiling an index for Back Issue, not a detailed, annotated index like I do for actual comics but a checklist of article titles, subjects (when not evident from the title), and author. It's a research tool, one I'll keep handy as I work on Alter Ego pieces and future book projects. I did something similar for Alter Ego's Golden Age material (which I need to update with the silver and Bronze Age stuff), and will probably do one for Comic Book Artist. It's a tedious process, but it proved invaluable when working on the ACBC book, so...

Being able to turn right to the right page of the right issue for the right datum is, well, all right!

My wife was in Paris a few months ago and there was an explosion in a nearby bakery. She had to evacuate her hotel room and check in somewhere else. They claim it was a gas explosion, but these days who knows?

And back in the UK today. Staying in Worthing. Paris was brutally hot. 95 F. It's been quite humid here in England lately, but it's a beautiful day today. And at least it's not cold and raining, which it was for most of June. You're probably already going there, but if you're in Worthing, I'd really recommend a visit to Brighton, just along the coast. It's a very cool bohemian town....they say it's the UK's San Francisco. It's nothing like SF, of course, but it is a very cool place. Loads of funky cafes, restaurants, and pubs, plus cool vintage fashion shops, great music shops, good (but pricey) antique shops, excellent record shops and quite a few comic shops... www.yelp.co.uk/search?find_desc=comic+shops&find_loc=BrightonI visit Brighton about once a year (it's only an hour and a half drive from me) and have done for the past 20 years or so. It's one of my favourite towns to visit in England.

Nice. I never thought it got that hot in Paris. it usually doesn't. They didn't have AC anywhere. I wish they'd have air con more in the UK too. Last year our summer was crazy hot and we really could've done with air con everywhere. It never normally gets hot enough for long enough to warrant it though. That's one of the things I love about the U.S., there's air conditioning all over the place in bars, clubs, restaurants, and accommodation.

Going back to London on Sunday.
