I voted also. It was a really short ballot though. Contested mayor election (I voted for a friend), two uncontested city council positions and a school bond. I voted as well, because it's my civic duty and privilege, but it was a nothing-burger slate. Borough council, school board, bunch of local judges, and some county positions (controller, sheriff, and I think dogcatcher). Results were typical. We live in a mostly subrural/rural county, so while the one city (a very small one) voted in Dems to all its positions (which we didn't vote on) and our borough elected the folks who were on both sides of the ballot, every county position went Republican on the usual "God and Guns" ticket. It's gotten so one-sided that one of the Democrat candidates for Controller ran as a "Conservative Democrat" while touting his pro-Second Amendment and pro-life stances in his campaign literature, as those are truly important notes to consider for a position like county controller. Municipal elections in Idaho are non-partisan. County-wide and higher are partisan. The mayoral election in my town was decided by 15 votes. So voting definitely does make a difference at least in local races.

Got my "I voted" sticker today. Remember, Remember, the 5th of November... -M I voted also. It was a really short ballot though. Contested mayor election (I voted for a friend), two uncontested city council positions and a school bond. Ours too, Mayor, city council, judges, board of ed., and school levies. My big incentive was to help the school levy get renewed as people around here have a history of voting for funding for schools. Most of the other candidates were running unopposed. -M

Slam_Bradley, must be nice that your municipal elections are non-partisan. Around Pittsburgh, even the elections in rinky-dink little communities are partisan. The town next to mine has a big "Endorsed Democrats" rally and dinner two nights before Election Day, and they have 3,200 people living there. I just don't get it. At the municipal level (and even the county level), party affiliation is pointless, particularly on issues like abortion, gay marriage, and the 2nd Amendment. The folks running for those positions have no impact on those kinds of issues, but it's a way to divide up into the "us against them" camps to drive support. My wife and I refused to vote for the "Conservative Democrat" I mentioned above because I felt that his campaign literature, which started off with those two points I referenced in my previous post, was absurd. Great, you're pro-life, running for a county controller seat that has nothing to do with your position on abortion, and somehow, that is supposed to make you more appealing to me? One of his opponents sent out campaign literature that showed what he had DONE in previous years as a country controller, including ending two no-bid contracts that had resulted in massive overspends on services that he brought back in-house. That is the kind of information I am looking for, and I voted for him to be a responsible steward of the money I pay via taxes. Of course, this guy is a Democrat and got voted out because the Republicans mobilized their base on the "God & Guns" issue, since not putting Republicans in every local position is a sure-fire way to have the 2nd Amendment overturned and to ensure that gays will start getting married and having abortions.

It's difficult to find information on the smaller local elections, In my area almost everyone's interview was a variation of the same basic things, and it seems like a glorified HOA.

I just finished ( I hope) having the biggest pain in the neck dealing with my HP printer. First it ran out of black ink and I tried to have Costco fill up the empty cartridge. They couldn't because it wasn't an " official" HP cartridge. Then I ordered ink online and it was the wrong one, apparently the photo black instead of the regular black. I ordered the correct one and it was printing but it looked a little faded. I looked up on Youtube how to clean the printer heads and did so the morning. It looks much better but now I'm paranoid that it will stop working later.

Why is it so difficult for so many people who should know better, especially people who write books, newspaper articles and various other forms of published material, to spell the name of Dr. Seuss (not "Suess"!) correctly?!
Or Gandhi's name? (It's not "Ghandi.")
Also Edgar Allan Poe? (it's not "Allen.")

Bothers me a lot and still does.

I often come across Stan Lee's birth surname of Lieber written as "Leiber"--not just in fan forums but also in online columns, articles, etc., that are presumably written by experts in the field. I've seen it in print too.

Bothers me a lot and still does. To play devil's advocate, I think of a lot of sites, tools, etc, have spellcheck on by default, but I suspect people largely tune it out due to how many false positives it throws up, especially when posting online. Usernames, quirky service names, words from other languages, memes, new short-lived slang words and phrases, etc. I know I certainly fall into that sometimes, also of going too quickly. The one that irks me the most is accidentally adding an incorrect spelling to my dictionary by way of an errant keystroke and not even realizing it so that future instances of that error don't even get caught. That said, professional writers in published works should absolutely know better and put in more effort, agreed.

Icctrombone ... I print stuff very rarely and I don't have a printer at home. I go to a printing store armed with my Senior Citizen discount card ... Black and White print cost me 25 cents a page ... Color cost me 50 cents a page on a standard white paper. I leave instructions at the store and a hour later pick them up. Been doing this for 8 to 10 years and works out great. No printer fuss, no ink cartridges, no worries, and all that.

It is pretty amazing that all other facets of home office technology and computing have gotten light years better yet printers still totally suck. There's a prime example of intentional stagnation to inflate prices if ever I've seen one.
If anyone made a quality easy to use printer that works well with inexpensive ink they could steamroll the competition and capture market share.

You would not believe the insane amount of detail my research is requiring to straighten out the baffling quagmire that is the comic book black market. That loud boom you hear later today will probably be my head exploding.

The only thing I use my home printer for are the checks I print out in my role as Treasurer for our swim club, as I have Quickbooks on my laptop and do all of my work in that regard at home.

The ink is expensive, but I really only need to buy new cartridges once a year. It has a scanning flatbed and tray, though, which make it super useful for filing paperwork digitally. It also has wireless printing which makes it really easy to print off coloring pages for the kids. Color me intrigued. Is there a brief abstract of what you're finding? I'd love to read more when you're done.
