Thanks all for your kind words and support.
I had a sit-down with my parents this afternoon and we discussed giving me Power of Attorney. My dad, who I thought would completely reject the idea, was actually receptive to it, so I am going to contact the lawyer they used when my dad got PoA for his mother when she was in decline. Hopefully can get this in place in the near future and can then move forward with taking care of all of their various issues.

I'm not going to get too political, but today is the seeming current cap on a very stressful and demoralizing time for the USA. If anyone has any bright sides or happy stories I'd love to hear them.

Can't think of any bright sides, unless the stock market responds positively? There seems to be a lot of people that means a lot to. A lot of other countries aren't doing well in various ways, I think some don't know it fully yet, and even in the U.S. I expect there are a lot that fall into that column as well. Time will tell, if we still have time and don't go the way of many of the Koala bears.

Some thoughts on cultural differences... originally from an email to someone here but decided to share it here Sometimes people's posts can come across as needlessly abrasive, including my own, then perhaps they will respond in kind as they see it by being blunt back making a situation that may have been averted in fact escalated. I'm Canadian. Perhaps you've heard of the stereotype about us as apologizing excessively... that we will say sorry for merely existing even and apologizing for things we had nothing to do with, and it is sometimes true with me. Further I will take offense on behalf of others. Something will set off my 'I would never say that!' self-censoring Canadian upbringing... that someone could conceivably be offended or harmed. If I see what seems to be a breach of the 'must not intentionally offend' rule that triggers my standing up and being offended on some hypothetical person's behalf, and in a way that's also an escalation as if I just said something rude back. I think the English may also have some of these inhibitions instilled in them, and I see a clash of cultures online many times where I feel I see both sides and neither. My grandma would literally wash my mouth out with cashmere bouquet soap for mouthing off, and we'd thank her for not using the lava pumice bar. I think we could all try to understand that sometimes a poster is coming from a different culture, that any of us can be very foreign sometimes, even while having so many interests and likes in common. I must have been very boring to have read in the politics thread to some, trying to keep things civil, and some people really do call each other names in their real lives in arguing and blow it off while others take the names far more seriously and personally. Let's keep trying, even if it would tee off Yoda!

My sister and a friend of hers went out this morning to gather wood from the forest. She's been gone all this time and it's almost evening, so I phoned her a little while ago; I found out her jeep got stuck in the snow off-trail and she only has a small shovel to get them out. I don't know where they are or what to do or who I should call.

An update on my sister's situation. She got out of the snow and out of the woods, only to crash into a camper on the way back. The jeep's totalled, and my sister was drunk, so her license's been suspended. It's a miracle no one was seriously injured, especially since my sister's friend wasn't wearing a seatbeat when it happened.

She's lucky to be in one piece.

Since our world is increasingly moving away from face to face conversations, we will continue to have written texts and emails that are interpreted sometimes inaccurately.

She claims her friend, who was also drunk, grabbed the wheel out of her hands, causing the jeep to skid out of control.

I'm glad she had her license pulled, and I hope this is a sobering wake-up call for her. No offense, but I've lost friends and family members to drunk drives and do not have patience for them. I'm glad you family is member is okay.

I'm glad you family is member is okay. I haven't much patience for alcoholism, either. I'm a hair's breadth away from becoming a teetotaler due to how negatively it's impacted my family. Unfortunately, I don't have high hopes for my sister getting her head on straight. She's a pathological idiot, and continually refuses to learn from her mistakes.
