Gil Kane said he patterned Hal Jordan after Paul Newman. I would have swapped the casting for GL and Flash here. 80's Redford looked a lot like Barry Allen did in the Bronze Age.

Casting of Vicki Vale and Lois Lane - Batman and Superman For Vicki Vale - Olivia de Havilland Since that I had Errol Flynn as Batman why not have her constant female lead - Olivia to play Vicki Vale his friend, later Girlfriend (in retrospect, not the right word here) work with him in the JLA Movie in a supportive role and give the movie more star power in a dynamic fashion. For Lois Lane - Julie Adams I have profound admiration of Julie Adams as an actress and most of you consider her a B Movie Actress as best and I know that she had a long list of credits as an Television Actress but in the 50's and 60's she was used primarily a female lead in certain movies and I felt I gave her a pass and I wanted a Dark Horse Candidate for Lois Lane and thinking of Margot Kidder in Superman the Movie that came out in the late 70's - She is far more prettier than Margot and thinking about her movie in the Creature of the Black Lagoon of which she has a very feminine qualities that I like and easily pass herself as Lois Lane. When I saw this Black and White Image of her she has that Golden Age Lois Lane in her and I felt she deserved to be her and pairing her with Rock Hudson as Superman would be a sensational duo. These two roles are secondary in the JLA Movie.

Aquaman's Wife - Mera - Esther WilliamsBuster Krabbe as Aquaman and Rita Hayworth as Mera would be a sensational choices for this pairing - I have to admit that Tab Hunter and Lloyd Bridges are excellent choices and my personal choice of Kirk Douglas as Aquaman still stands. The problem with Buster is not that many people remember him and his career was marginal as best and I rarely saw his films. To be honest here, I did not think of Buster at all when I saw this picture with Rita Hayworth. Buster as Aquaman and Rita as Mera - the more that I think about neither one of them fit the bill. But, they would sensational picks but illogical because of Buster's Movie Career in the early 50's give or take a few years. Pairing him with Rita who is a Major Star is crazy as it's gets. To me, I have to go with Esther Williams to play Mera and more that I think about it she has all the tools to play Mera and then some and I felt that she and Kirk Douglas will have the star power to pull it off and Esther has all the right moves and athletic ability to play Aquaman's wife - Mera. And, she swims better than Rita and I certainly hope so.

Great choices! Rock Hudson (in his prime) would have made an awesome Superman.
My choice for a silver age Wonder Woman: Raquel Welch! Hawkman: Clint Walker

@mrp He's more like a Television Actor than a Movie Actor in my own opinion and if this was a Television Movie - He would be my 1st and only choice. Clint Eastwood was a television actor until Sergio Leone came calling; same with Robin Williams, George Clooney, Michael Douglas, and Robert Redford. It could be the breakout role for that tv actor.

Thought you all might get a kick out of a couple of lists that readers submitted to Julius Schwartz in JLA 17, which came out on December 1962. Green Lantern: Edd Byrnes/Roger Smith Flash: Troy Donahue/ Edd Byrnes Martian Manhunter: Steve Reed (I think the reader meant Steve Reeves)/ Gordon Scott Wonder Woman: Tuesday Weld/ Carole Wells Green Arrow: Clark Gable (RIP)/Bobby Darin Aquaman: Lloyd Bridges/ Troy Donahue Atom: Dean Martin/ Michael Landon Batman: Robert Taylor/Vince Edwards Superman: George Reeves (RIP)/Efrem Zimbalist Snapper Carr: None/John Ashley A few observations... Both letter-writers were obviously lovers of the popular detective show "77 Sunset Strip," which starred Efrem Zimbalist, Jr., Roger Smith, and Edd "Kookie" Byrnes. The one who nominated Gable as GA and George Reeves as Superman acknowldeged that both were dead, but felt no one else could paly the parts, especially in the case of George Reeves. Steve Reeves and Gordon Scott were both famous movie musclemen; Reeves was Hercules (among many another legendary hero) and Scott was Tarzan. Weld and Welles were both blonde bombshells: Carole Welles Tuesday Weld Who was John Ashley? He starred in a batch of teen pictures (hot rods, horror, cycles, etc.) from American International. I love how far apart in their styles Gable and Darin are as choices for GA. However, even though Gable was about 60 or 61 when he died, and Darin was an epiotme of cool for young people in 1962, both evinced a roguish persona on screen. Interesting, because it seems both readers saw some hint of the dashing Robin Hood-type that GA would become a few years later.

Prince Hal,
Interesting Picks here and I have to disagree with your Wonder Woman picks although I would say this both of them could play the Black Canary judging by their looks. I don't know much about John Ashley either - but the rest of your picks are compelling and fascinating and I probably have to rethink it a bit more.

First Villain Cast - Star SapphireHoosier X ... In the first page of the thread you mentioned Cyd Charisse for Wonder Woman; your thinking is sound and not ill-fitted at all. I have to go with the Star Power of Jane Russell and someone here selected Raquel Welch as Wonder Woman and she is far more later on in the world of Hollywood and I was thinking about the actresses in the 40's and the 50's. Welch came in the 60's and the 70's and to me, she would be disqualified as Wonder Woman. Now, back to Star Sapphire ... Looking at this picture, she has great legs, nice slender body, and most importantly she wears a mask. Who would I place her in that role and she has to have a knockout pair of legs and a brunette hair and most importantly is perfect for that role Your pick for Wonder Woman - is Cyd Charisse and I would definitely put her into the spotlight for Star Sapphire why take this picture of her and think about the picture that I selected for Star Sapphire and put two and two together - presto you just landed the right actress to play that villain for Green Lantern who is my pick of Robert Redford. With both of them on screen you got the marbles to make it work. By the way, she would be a great Carol Ferris too. She's Gorgeous, Fantastic Legs, and has all the right tools to play Star Sapphire. Cyd Charisse as Star Sapphire / Carol Ferris

Just to clarify, Juggy, these were sent in by readers to an issue of JLA in 1962. I thought that same about those two actresses and Black Canary, btw.

First Villain Cast - Star Sapphire I would have gone with Elizabeth Taylor for Star Sapphire. Look at this picture of Paul Newman and Elizabeth Taylor and tell me they aren't dead ringers for Silver Age Hal Jordan and Carol Ferris.

Okay, I can see that clear as a bell. Now, I have already selected a role for Liz Taylor and that's is going to be the most shocking one of all time. Now, let's say this ... Cyd Charisse is a dancer and very talented one indeed and looking at the picture that she has long legs. Cyd is 5'7" ... Liz is 5'3" ... that's gives Cyd a 4 inch advantage over Liz. Liz has the capacity to play pretty much any role if I want to. The problem with Liz is that she is too short. That's my thinking and I have to take that into serious considerations. Now, the cat is out of the bag for the role of Elizabeth Taylor ... Your picks for Hal Jordan and Star Sapphire is spot on and very excellent indeed and I have to give you credit for that.
