I don't normally post in this thread because I listen to so much music every day that I'd be posting in here all the time.
However, I've recently stumbled upon a young indie musician from California called Hazel English that I'm enjoying listening to a fair bit at the moment. She writes and records rather good dream pop or shoegaze music, but I'm also aware that her stuff sounds pretty similar to a lot of other bands that I love, like My Bloody Valentine, Chapterhouse, Amusement Parks On Fire, Yo La Tengo, The Sundays, Paul Thomas Saunders etc. I think that's making me overly suspiscious of her music...like, do I actually dig Hazel English that much, or is it just because she sounds like a number of my favourite bands?
Anyway, whatever, I'm digging her right now, that's for sure. Here's two of my favourites by her...

Sounding that much like Harriet Wheeler and The Sundays you'd think they'd try harder not to... then again, I suppose if The Sundays aren't using the 'sound'.

Pulled out some Gladys Knight and The Pips after watching a newish documentary on The Apollo Theater. When they were good they were unbeatable!

Every time I'm tempted to complain about kids these days and their rotten music, I discover someone new to put the lie to it.

Men At Work- No Sign Of Yesterday
Makes me nostalgic for the times when I would go with my step-cousins to my step-uncle's house in Orange Beach where he'd play Men At Work's "Who Can It Be Now" almost on repeat. My step-cousin unfortunately passed away a few years ago at 26, so whenever I hear this song on my mp3 player, I think of him

I'm a huge fan of Australian punk and in the last couple of years there's been great releases by The Chats, Pronto, Vintage Crop and Amyl and the Sniffers, just to name a few current bands. I just got turned onto CLAMM - damn good catchy & energetic stuff w/ a post-punk edge.

On the occasion of Johnny Cash's 88th birthday I am listening to his Sun Records output.
