I got this beauty in the mail yesterday and that makes it a straight run from 224-502 for this series.

I'm too lazy for pics at the moment, but I got a couple nice ebay auctions the last couple weeks:
Iron Man 42 and 44 (down to 33 needed for the original series.. have #1, but not 55) Lots of Malibu (1-11 of Prototype, the Break Thru Mini, 1-10 of Nightman, and a couple random ones) Star Trek (from DC) 25-30 A few DC Presents, Flash, and Green Lantern from the Early 80s
All for about $1 an issue (the Malibu was cheap, the Iron Man ones were $4.77 for the 2)

I haven't picked up any floppies in a while (I have all the stories I'm missing in Masterworks), but I do like buying floppies cheap. Question I have is: what kind of condition are those two issues in so that you could get them for less than $5 total?

They were decent... good covers, all in one piece.. I'd give'em Fine- maybe? I'm not much of a grader I was pretty excited for the price, especially since I was able to get some other stuff to make the shipping more palatable (always a problem with Ebay). I pay $50 for my #1 (which is probably VF) and $10 for #2.. otherwise I haven't paid more that $5 for anything I have. That'll obviously not be the case for #55.. I also don't have the actual comic for Demon in a Bottle (just a trade).. that might be pricey too

My copy of #55 has a little damage in the upper-left corner of the cover, which is how I got it for $45 around a decade ago. Now, the same book would probably cost a couple hundred easy.

Yeah, it's not too terrible. I'm sure I'll pull the trigger at some point. it's 55 that's the monster, especially because I don't even LIKE Thanos

I had an Iron Man #1 years ago in top shape, probably VF. My brother bought it as a present for me in the early '80s for $35... yes, he even told me. A memorable present, but to be honest not much an issue. I kind of liked Iron Man & Sub-Mariner #1, a one shot that came out the month before #1 more just because it was a one time only combination. I guess it was necessary as there had been a mistake in doing half stories for both of them that then weren't necessary when Captain America and The Hulk started their own full length mags? I'll never have #55 either. Bah! I'm fairly content to have just #95-139 and Annual #4 (though my #118 has very slight water damage). Used to Have #1-4 in very nice shape and the aforementioned one-shot with Subby. The oldest Iron Man I ever had was a Tales Of Suspense #45 probably VG (having a rip inside was mostly the problem with it, but didn't it affect the art all). It must've been my second oldest Marvel superhero comic ever too, seeing him pre gold and red was such a big deal somehow. The era of 'transistor powered'.

I first came across Iron Man when he had his "New Coke" armour. But when I eventually picked up some back issues, I came to love the red and gold.

I have TOS #40 in 6.0, but that's a fairly recent purchase. Of far greater significance to me personally is the beater copy of TOS #43 that I bought in 1980 at a used book store in Pomona, CA for, I think $2. He was clunky and gold, a condition I'd never seen him in (though I remembered the grey armor from his origin story), and it was a big deal, just as you describe. Instantly, I understood why Marvel had been referring to him as "The Golden Avenger" for so long.

I love the original Yellow suit. It seems every few years he pulls it out for a story.

I love the original Yellow suit. It seems every few years he pulls it out for a story. It's great. I used to imagine that he chose gold because the malleable metal offered some strategic advantage. Gold is a better conductor than iron, for example. But TOS 40 explains that Stark overheard two attractive women expressing their dislike for the dull, grey armor. So Iron Man tricked it out in gold to impress the ladies! Classic Tony.

I like the Gold suit but this will always be "my" Iron Man suit.

I like the Gold suit but this will always be "my" Iron Man suit. That's my Iron Man too, but I have a real soft spot for the original bathtub suits, both the grey and gold versions.

Any love for the "New Coke" armour, anyone?
