I paid the going rate, more or less -- but it was worth it to me.

Tom, I will guess you paid around $1800? You can just say over or under lol I don't mind telling you, it's public knowledge really. I paid $1436 with Heritage's fees figured in. And for those of you keeping score at home -- I still owe $486. :-) -- Tom

OK, here it is: I won a recent auction at Heritage. (And yes, I sold the right kidney to pay for it...) I brought it to the school I work at to show it to a fellow comic geek that I work with. One of my students guessed that I paid $50 for it. Ha! I have been working a complete run of Amazing Spider-Man for almost 11 years, and I am just down to 1 issue -- #1. I dunno what else to say -- it presents better than its grade, but it's definitely a 6.0. -- Tom

After a good long while of watching all of the cool comics you guys have been buying, I finally pulled the trigger and bought a comic...
It's a doozy -- and it'll be here Wednesday, according to the good people at FedEx...

The Tampa Bay Comic Con is this weekend. I went today -- and I could not get over how high the comics were priced. (Of course when it was a comic that I already owned and the price was high, I was happy. When it was a comic that I was interested in buying, then it bummed me out. Funny how that works.) But I was able to make a good deal -- and I took it. Here is Amazing Spider-Man #4: It was marked $595 and when I showed the dealer that it goes for $450 on the GPA site -- he, much to my amazement, lowered the price to $450. I only need two issues of Amazing Spider-Man now -- 1 & 3. I have all of the annuals. Pinch me, Tom

Good lord, 90%? They may as well have given you the books for free! 90% , but they were way over priced to begin with. Also known as the Rozanski Method.

Ok. This one isn't as old as Action Comics #16, but this one completes an important run in my collection. This was the last DC book I needed from the 1960s! I now have an unbroken run of every DC comic from 1960-2010 including all genres, imprints, variants, and collection editions. That's an amazing accomplishment! <<Bows Down>> --Tom

And that Annual looks sweet! Awesome! Annual 1 is the one that I am the most proud of, and cost the most. Between it being an early issue, a white cover and that square binding -- let's just say that I had a hard time with that one. --Tom

Hey Kids! MegaCon was this past weekend -- and I damn near melted the credit card. (I'm only slightly exaggerating...) Let's start with the upgrades:
These are all nice upgrades from what I previously had -- my original ASM #50 was probably a 1.8... Then let's see my latest Daredevil acquisitions: And finally here's one of the four issues of Amazing Spider-Man that I was missing: This completes my Amazing Spider-Man annual collection. As it stands, I just need issues #1, 3 and 4. It's nice to have something to show off, finally... Peace, Tom

Hey remember me? Anyway, it's been a good long while since I've had anything to post. But I do now... I won this at an auction on Comic Connect. It's in the 6.0-6.5 range. I'll give the Comic Connect people bonus points for grading on the conservative side; the comic buyer at my LCS said he would grade it at 6.5, which made my day. (In fact he said he would buy the comic from me for the same price that I paid for it -- and then mark it up nearly 100% -- so I guess I got an okay deal.) With this purchase, I am down to need just three more issues of ASM for a full run (1, 3 & 4). I also need to get a copy of annual number 1... Happy collecting, Tom P.S. Even though I post less often (these last bunch of ASM's are expensive!), I still keep up with this thread. I love checking out what you guys are buying!

Ok I want to hear more of the Crim show--who's the current line up and what's the set list these days? Between the reformation as the double trio in the 90s and the Projeckt era, I probably saw Crim and its offshoots 3 dozen times between Bostona nd New York and areas in between... -M (sorry find the Crim much more interesting than Deadpool, not if it had been one of his usual classic Amazing acquisitions I might not have been so easily distracted ) King Crimson is now a seven piece band with three drummers -- Robert Fripp - guitar, Tony Levin - bass & Chapman Stick, Pat Mastellotto - drums, Gavin Harrison - drums, Bill Rieflin - drums, Mel Collins - Saxes & Flute, and Jakko Jakszyk - guitar & vocals. Here's a link to the setlist from the night I attended. The current version of KC is fairly amazing. The band plays in such a way that it's more democratic. (I guess it's a benevolent dictatorship with Fripp playing the role of said dictator...) All of the members played amazingly well and each member getting several moments to shine. Levin played numerous lines on the Stick that melted my bass playing mind. Mel Collins was a revelation. His playing added a dimension that has been missing from KC for a long while. From intense barrages of notes to gentle breezes of flute, he was astounding. (Of course, I ended up sitting next to the guy who kept yelling, "Mel!" at the top of his lungs.) The other really striking aspect of the band was how the three drummers had arranged all of the drum parts so that the songs didn't get overwhelmed by drums. As good as the band was, there were still a few moments where I missed Adrian Belew. Let me know if you have any other questions, Tom

Here's one of the very few Deadpool appearances that I am missing: I was visiting NY (to see King Crimson!) and stopped in one of the local comic stores. Lo and behold, one of the books that I never see anywhere. I am glad to have gotten it before every Deadpool appearance skyrockets. Plus this one is fairly rare... I love this thread, Tom

Sweet ASM issues killerbass! Very jealous but happy that you are finishing your run! Picked up these for $8 and 7$ respectively. Mid grade, maybe a little better. I really wanted the #96 because I love the cover. I think $7 was very reasonable so I could not say no to that. Thanks! (If it makes you feel any better, sometimes I look at the people who collect many different things and wish I wasn't so anal about finishing off the Amazing run...) I love those old Avengers issues -- I almost decided to collect those after I finish my Amazing run. But I picked Daredevil instead. Peace, Tom

Yesterday was the first day of the Tampa Bay Comic Con -- and I spent way more money than I anticipated... Here's the only comic that I purchased, after an hour of haggling: That leaves just four more issues for a full run of ASM -- 1, 3, 4, 8 & Annual 1. It's all a bit surreal being just a few issues away. Peace, Tom
