I know I gotta be smart and avoid close interactions with other people, but damn I just want to hang with people in real life. I've had maybe 5 minutes of actual F2F human conversation in the past 5 days.

Dragon Con is one of those shows that are on my wife and I's bucket list, but it won't be any time soon. I think @bert and Pharozonk have mentioned going in the past, but not sure they are going this year. -M Went back in 2014 when I was living in Atlanta. It's a fun time for sure!

Marathon Man (1976)I'm a big Dustin Hoffman fan, but this movie was a disappointment for me. The first hour or so is fantastic, setting up a great dual story of Hoffman trying to get his PhD and win the girl while Roy Scheider is engrossed in an international espionage conspiracy. However, once Scheider and Hoffman meet up, the story begins to fall apart and the third act becomes quite tedious. The infamous tooth scene is well shot and suspenseful, but the action is rather uninspired and the ending is rather anti-climatic. Just watched this today - first time ever. While I have a higher overall impression of the movie than Pharozonk (I thought what he considered an anti-climax to actually be pretty effective), I do agree that the first roughly half of the movie is better than the second. And even though it had a horribly tragic outcome, I found the geriatric car chase at the very beginning somewhat darkly humorous.
Oh boy, I wonder what I'd think of this movie now considering the first time I saw this I was still in college.

You mean it's not real law? It’s almost always not. And here I was looking to get David Caruso to represent me if I was ever in court...

Dear Friends, I just wanted to let you know that this will be my last post here for the foreseeable future and possibly for good. Please know that this is in no way a reflection on the quality of this forum, as the people who post and contribute here are among the best folks I've ever met on the internet. Over the course of the past week, I've been doing a lot of soul-searching. Taking a page from Marie Kondo's philosophy of decluttering one's life, I spent some time reflecting on what doesn't "spark joy" for me, to use her term. What I've found is that time spent on internet forums, be it here or a baseball one that I've been a member of for over a decade or a hockey one that I've been participating in more this season, doesn't bring me any happiness in my life right now, and as such, I need to focus on doing other, more productive things that do that for me. What I've found is that I am also creating a lot of unhappiness in my life. I refuse to let arguments go, and as such, I spend time when I'm not on the forum thinking up responses to conversations that are not important, and this "cognitive overhead" interferes with my day-to-day life. Additionally, I am responsible for spreading acrimony in discussion threads, mostly centered around politics, and I need to be better than that. To Prince Hal and impulse , I apologize to the both of you for my posts last week in The Politics Thread, recognizing that I wasted your time and energy with pointless arguments. I wish this forum the best, and if I do find a point in the future where it seems like I might find some joy here, I may come back. Take care and keep being the best damn comics forum on the internet. Respectfully, The Captain Cap, I'm very sad to see you go. Just know we'll always keep the light on for you if you decide to come back.

I think you guys are misunderstanding me. I'm not arguing that it's right or wrong, simply that it's a way of thinking that's distinctly American in comparison to most European countries, and plays a large part in how our political system has shaped itself over the years.

Well said. Comparing ourselves to Europe is an exercise in futility, especially when the country was founded explicitly as a rejection of many European values. What th'? Which values are we talking about here? Collectivism vs. rugged individualism is probably the biggest one, and probably has a trickle down effect on many values that make us differ with our European cousins.

Well said. Comparing ourselves to Europe is an exercise in futility, especially when the country was founded explicitly as a rejection of many European values. That's an incredibly simplistic view of the causes of the Revolution, much less the founding of the colonies. And it's at least 200 plus years out of date. The idea that "European values" in the 17th and 18th Centuries somehow correspond with anything in the 21st century is at best naive. It's not about whether those values are relevant today or not, but the fact that they still affect politics today anyway.

At the risk of sticking my hand into a wasp nest I will just say this: When I see Americans, no matter where they fall on the political spectrum, refer to how things are in “Europe” when it comes to stuff like schools I cringe a bit. There are major differences between countries so talking about how things works in “Europe” often ends up ignoring so many factors its hard to ignore for me. I am a highschool teacher and guidens counsler and I work with this everyday so some of the last few pages just touches a nerve. I am not directing this against anyone specific btw so I hope I dont offend anyone with this. Oh and for those who doest know I am Danish. Well said. Comparing ourselves to Europe is an exercise in futility, especially when the country was founded explicitly as a rejection of many European values.

Hey everyone, please try to be cognizant of your language when responding to others here. We don't want this to be a place of personal attacks of any kind and that includes interpreting other posters' interpretations of policies and candidates.

I said among friends, and on FB: I'm totally all in for Biden/Beto ticket but would also be fine with Beto/Harris (or vice versa, but think it's a stronger ticket with Harris as VP) I think if the candidate for President is a man, the VP candidate will almost certainly be a woman. Otherwise, the progressives will see it as just more business as usual. I could live with a Biden/Klobuchar ticket, but I'm far more centrist than most around here. O'Rourke is a lightweight flash-in-the-pan, and I don't want folks like Harris, Gillibrand, Sanders, or Warren anywhere near the WH (too far radical for my tastes). Harris is pretty centrist.

Democratic primaries are going to be nuts. I've got my money on O'Rourke for now.

I agree but Impulse’s initial post made it seem like 1) a trade deficit is bad and 2) Trump is to blame This trade deficit is bad, and Trump is to blame. How is the current one bad and how is it Trump's fault? We've had a massive trade deficit with China since even Bush Jr. Impulse's link headline is misleading.

A trade deficit isn't inherently a bad thing, especially now with the economy at a high point. True, but the tariffs and assorted trade barriers that were arbitrarily imposed were specifically meant to reduce said trade deficit, which they didn’t. All they did was increase the price on imported goods and cause other countries to impose their own tariffs, reducing American competitivity abroad. The government’s trade policy is really the worst of both worlds. I agree but Impulse’s initial post made it seem like 1) a trade deficit is bad and 2) Trump is to blame
