There's a Bronze Age (probably quite recent) issue of Legion of Super-Heroes in the background in Fred Savage's bedroom in the Princess Bride. I think there may be some other comics as well.

Nice buys, dbutler69 . I love the beat up nature of those .50 cent books. They were well loved.

I never won a no-prize, but I did once win a Baldy for writing in a letter to Action Comics. Turned out to be just a postcard with Lex Luthor's picture on it. Welcome aboard. It's always nice to have another member with a Legion of Super-Heroes avatar.

I love Dollar Comics (though I never got into war comics) and absolutely love the Giffen/DeMatties Justice League!

I read Avengers Annual #1. I love this comic! It's one of the very first back issues I ever bought, back in the late 70's, so there's some nostalgia, especially just looking at the cover.. This gathers everybody who had been an Avenger up to that point, versus Mandarin and a bunch of Avengers villains. The are is so-so. It's kinda lazy in places, with some of the fight scenes lacking detail. Still, this is one of my favorite 60's comics. More than any other issue, that was Roy Thomas' tribute to the Justice Society of America.
John Buscema was recruited to "fill in" on the regular book to give DON HECK time to do all 49 those pages.
The problem, of course... George Roussos SUCKED as an inker. He was only marginally better than Don Heck at the time or Vince Colletta. But he was no John Romita, or Wally Wood, or Frank Giacoia, or Chic Stone. Hell, he wasn't even a Dick Ayers. And he certainly wasn't Syd Shores or a Tom Palmer.
Worse, Heck lost "his" regular series as a result of that book and the "fill ins" provided by John Buscema.
Decades later, Thomas admitted he "regretted" what happened. Of course, as far as I can tell, HE was the one responsible for it happening.
So Don Heck got Wally Pipped?

I went to Ollies today and picked up a few goodies. The last time I was there (maybe almost a year ago?) they had a Golden Age JSA Archives which I unfortunately didn't get, and told myself that I'd get it today if it was still there. Of course, it wasn't, but I still got some neat stuff. This World's Finest reprints some 60's World's Finest comics, and the Archie is a collection of reprints from various archie comics with fantasy or horror (as in Halloween) themes. It seems to be mostly newer stuff, though there's at least some stuff from the 80's. The book on the right here reprints the Superman/Doomsday series from the 90's, as well as Doomsday Annual #1. The Solo and Lando books are not classics, but they looked interesting, and I just decided to throw them in here. They also had a Newsboy Legion hardcover collection of Golden Age comics, but I passed on that. I'm not made of money!
