I’m reading Strange Tales #136, and Doctor Strange is searching everywhere for the secret of Eternity!
This scene with the Aged Genghis cracks me up a little.
The Aged Genghis should appear more often. He could be hanging out with Abe Simpson. Doctor Strange could come by and help them figure out how the VCR works so they can watch Seinfeld.

I’m up to Strange Tales #135.
This is the period where Mordo and Dormammu are the villains for about a zillion consecutive issues.
I love it, but I bet it was excruciating for the fans that were reading it month by month in the 1960s.

Maybe it's just the way this site displays it; but, that image looks like the steroid freak in the front has two heads, both with pairs of hands, growing out of his right leg. This made me laugh so hard that it would have startled the cat if she wasn’t used to my laughter when I’m reading comics. I thought that, instead of heads growing out of his leg, it was two costumed monkeys hiding behind his leg and tentatively looking out to see what’s going on.

I’m up to Avengers #20.
Oh, that Wally Wood inking!

All kidding aside, this is the Avengers to me. #15 to ... I’m not sure. #50, maybe?
The podcast was specifically about Cap’s Kooky Quartet, so that’s #16 to #27, I think. I was reading Marvel Triple Action in the mid-1970s, so my Avengers were Goliath, Wasp, Hercules (as well as the Quartet) and they were fighting the Sons of the Serpent, the Living Laser, the Red Guardian and various other bananashenanigans.
Which is not to say that the Avengers wasn’t as good or better (it usually was!) in later years. It’s just that I love the mid-1960s Avengers more than anything.

Just one more comment about Avengers #16 ...
That panel with various Avengers villains commenting on the new membership ... the Enchantress, the Executioner, Kang, the Mole Man and Immortus ... it cracks me up! Mostly Immortus saying that he will not rest until the Avengers are defeated!
I mean, that’s a very ambitious statement for a guy who doesn’t show up again until ... #129? Can that be right? Well, I guess time moves differently for the ruler of Limbo. Or maybe he wasn’t really that eager for revenge considering that the Enchantress had cast a spell that erased all the events in Avengers #10!

The whole segment with Hawkeye is hilarious too.
It’s two pages, and most any Avengers fan can go to town on how silly it is.
But two things struck me this time ... the Wasp doesn’t know the butler’s name! Oh Janet!
The other thing that gets me is how long they leave Jarvis on the floor tied up while Hawkeye gives his whole life story. Somebody should say, let’s get Jarvis untied and then you can tell us your story, Hawkeye.
And a third ... Giant-Man asks the Wasp what she thinks of Hawkeye’s membership and she says, “Va Va VOOM! ... Oh, he ought to do fine!”

I am reading Avengers #16. I love this issue so much! I just came across one of my favorite scenes. It’s where Thor tries to send everybody into another dimension so that none of the New Yorkers get hurt in the coming battle. The Executioner and the Enchantress step out of the way and escape. Which leaves Thor, Iron Man, Giant-Man and the Wasp against ... the Melter and the Black Knight!
That’s not even fair! Come on, guys!
I always laugh.

That’s quite a coincidence! During the ZOOM call, we were talking about really bad issues of JLA and #32 was the exact issue I was thinking of.

I’m so happy I’m past Avengers #14!
I just read #15. This is more like it!
The death of Zemo is so satisfying that you scarcely notice how dumb that last page is.

I just finished the Doctor Strange story in Strange Tales #133, so I’m into that lengthy serial where Strange was fighting Mordo and Dormammu for a million consecutive issues.
This is one of my top two or three runs ever.

Read a couple Challengers of the Unknown today from the Showcase volume.. fun 12 pages with some cool art. A bit basic storywise, but definitely worth reading. There was one where their memories get stolen and June has to tell them all what to do that's really fun, my fave of the bunch for sure. That sounds great!

Oh man. Defenders #1 to #60 and you haven’t read them!?
Don’t worry about reviewing them! Just read them! It’s a totally different comic every 15 or 20 issues!

I read Avengers #14 this afternoon. Avengers #10 is bad, but it’s bad like a bad issue of Silver Age Avengers. Avengers #14 is bad like a bad issue of Silver Age Justice League. I’m glad I’m past it. What saves these issues is that the characters all have personality. The dialogue is fun. It was an abomination that the silver age JLA was as boring as it was. You must’ve gotten an Earth-2 version of Avengers #14. The dialogue is excruciating. Especially Giant-Man. This is the only issue of Avengers that’s as bad as those really bad issues of Thor in Journey into Mystery or the Human Torch in Strange Tales.
