Thanks Bert. You're the best at this! I remember quite a bit about 52 but none of these characters are familiar to me at all. Sadly the library doesn't seem to have it anymore or I would re-read. The Time Wraith things are original though? Huh. It takes some visual cues from the Black Flash in the Morrison/Millar run.... 52 is available on Hoopla but, for some reason, they only have Book 2.

Hawkman: despite his convoluted history, he is my favorite. I prefer the Carter Hall/Egyptian reincarnated version. I still have my run of the Geoff Johns series and collected the title up until the end. Hawkman is just a cool, tough hero and I like the weapons he uses. Also like his partnership with the love of his life, Hawkgirl. Also liked his bickering relationship with Green Arrow in the 70s JLoA. I hear that Hawkman is a big part of the Metal series from DC. Hoping they get him back in the spotlight. Angel would be my second choice. I always thought he was cool and a visually beautiful character. I lost interest when they changed him to Archangel and have no idea which version he is now. I agree. They took a character who was already really cool and ruined him by trying to make him cool.

I have only read King's Batman run so not familiar with his other work. I read Batman 1 thru 25 and was not impressed at all. I loved Snyder's Batman run and have all of the hardcovers. I wanted to love King's Batman and kept reading hoping it would get better, but I forced myself to get through the 1st 25 issues. Is the story with the Joker and Riddler any good?? I'm virtually the exact opposite. I've loved King's Batman from the outset but, despite liking The Court of Owls storyline and really wanting to like the rest of Snyder's run, I couldn't bring myself to read beyond the first part of Zero Year. I'm really liking what he is doing with Metal though.
I'm liking The War of Jokes and Riddles so far. It takes place about a year into Batman's career, and he is recounting the events to Selina because it involves a yet-to-be-revealed choice he made, that he regrets. I've seen some people complain there's not enough action in the arc. I guess, maybe, they were expecting/hoping for an eight issue long fight scene between the two factions of villains. We're a few issues in and, so far, we've seen an incredibly violent start to the "war", a heartbreaking Kiteman story, an epic battle between Deadshot and Deathstroke, a funny past encounter between Batman and Catwoman, a very strange dinner party, and plenty of actual jokes and riddles. If the second half of the story is as good as the first, I won't be disappointed.

My favorites were the short Dollar Comics run. Especially the JSA stories that continued from All-Star Comics. I also liked some of the Flash, Wonder Woman, and Deadman stories from those issues.

Ultimate War is a great example of a superheroes vs. superheroes story done right.

I really liked Millar's Ultimate X-Men run. I thought it was a fun take on the characters. RR already hit upon why I loved the first two arcs of the Ultimates so I'll go with X-Men; the character work is truly great and the focus on their interpersonal relationships interspersed with action is balanced really well and it only got better as it went. Ultimate FF was really the only book I never cared for. I like that the characters were similar enough to their mainstream Marvel Universe counterparts to provide a sense of familiarity, but different enough to keep them interesting. They gave us something that felt like a genuine new take, rather than rely on typical interpretations and rehashed storylines.

I enjoyed his work on Grayson but, initially, avoided Vision because books rarely live up to that level of hype. But, after liking his Batman run so much, I decided to give Vision a shot and it does warrant the praise it gets. I think his Batman run is the best modern run since Morrison's.

I guess I have to ask what exactly makes it a classic? But I just finished Avengers #144 this morning. Welcome to the forum. Here, a classic comic is any comic that is at least ten years old.
