I'm still confused by the claims I've seen made in this thread that DVDs are somehow more fragile than VHS tapes. Granted, where my four year old is concerned, this is accurate. But, so long as you know not to touch the underside of a DVD and put it back in its case when not using it, I find them much easier to care for. Number of VHS tapes that broke for me within 5 years of purchase (with proper care): 2 Number of DVDs that broke for me within 5 years of purchase (with proper care): 0 Number of VHS tapes that were damaged/defective when first taken out of the box: 0 Number of DVDs that were damaged/defective when first taken out of the box: 0 Percentage of VHS tapes that wore out/lost quality within 5 years of purchase (even with proper care): Approximately 40% Percentage of DVDs that wore out/lost quality within 5 years of purchase (even with proper care): less than 1% Number of VHS players that broke for me within 5 years of purchase (with proper care): 2 Number of DVD players that broke for me within 5 years of purchase (with proper care): 1 In regard to the nostalgia factor, while I do miss the original box art and commercials, this is nostalgia for the content, not the media format. There's no reason companies can't provide the original box art and retro commercials on the DVDs if there is enough consumer demand for them. Well, if you expect video rental customers to take as great care of the products they rent as you personnaly do, I wish you were my sole client hten, and would advise you against any inclination to go into the business It just was more difficult for customers to damage a VHS in a way that rendered it unplayable than with DVDs. It's just common sense, as the tiniest unsignificant hariline scratch on a DVD could have vastly and randomly dramatc different effect on its playing capacity. About nostalgia of the media, no current companies could provide the flavor of yesterdays for their new products as those sketchy designs and features were achieved not to fill a crave for nostalgia but because a naive and romantic belief in their time-specific sense of design. If something is retro it is not genuine it's just retro. I'm not after that, I just honnestly enjoy the naive supposedly sense of design from back then and get inspired by it. Not saying it's better than what they have today, just that I enjoy its authentic naivité when retro would somewhat be cynical.

Sim has aknowledged on at least a few occasions, that in the Cerebus controversy he is the problem, even more so because he partakes in the debate and should refrain from doing so. I'm not sure how deeply he believes in his lettercolumn text's practical aspects but suspect he somewhat adopts an "ironic martyr" position for a cause he fails to see any strong literate advocate of, and any intelectualy honest opiniated person would crave for contradictory debate. I feel that he sometimes listens to his oposition in a way reflected on his later views. I'm not saying he is partially insincere in a way or the ohter, just that as RRaider pointed out, there is a personal and practical aspect to his ad Cerebus' views, they are not pure and abstract, which I believe makes Sim aknowledge their inherent subjectivity. Does feminism have an answer for every single of the many wrongs of patriarchy? Probably not, and I think Sim started off from common sense before he became a devil's advocate to a seemingly point of no return, if that makes any sense.

Considering how little happens in it, I doubt Marvel gave the OK without anything else. And as they seem to like to release the first 5 issues of new titles within 3 months, I really think that the artist is the "?" of the equation. He's the son of one of the best comic book artist in my opinion, the late Jorge Zaffino, and he's trying to emulate the unique style of his dad. But when covers and pin ups can do the trick, this first issue of sequential art so far shows he's not up to the task... :/

So did anything particularly important happen after Giffen? The answer is no since, we didn't read it

My favorite cover in all of comicdom: Can someone explain me this cover? It's quite difficult to figure out what is going on : what's all te black under Starfire, I get that under Cyborg is Batman's cape, but is there a geometric form or negative space silhouette hiding there? I must be tired, hahaha!

Question: Does watching APES movies on You Tube counts? Well, you still have to find ones dating from before 2006

Maybe so, but in that case, I'm pretty sure it's due to the artist being a complete newbie regarding monthly schedules and realizing his art looks like shit under that kind of schedule...

Did Etrigan ever die? I have complete runs of his first 3 series plus odds and ends, but I haven't followed him of late... Being a demon, does "death" even apply? Well, some demons in Sandman died. And many demons in the Demon ongoing died when there was war in Hell in the last story arc...

How late is Karnak exactly? Still only one issue an dthe next one not scheduled for at least two weeks... First issue was a real let down BTW, sub par artwork when you consider the artists online showcased work...

Wow. Rob Liefeld could beat that publishing schedule! I know nothing about Thorgal, but it must be pretty impressive to have left such a legacy with so few issues. Hey Shaxper, remember when I was analyzing Eric Canete in the worst panel ever thread? Just found this and thought about you

Nu-Valiant copies/differs a lot of little aspects from their 90's predecessors in ways that I don't necessarily like. 90's X-O felt like the perfect mesh of Iron Man meets displaced space barbarian from the past, but the revival leaves a lot to be desired after the "Planet Death" arc. I felt the same with Dysart's take on Harbinger with the only redeeming factor being Harada. It kind of irradiated me how badly portrayed the Renegades seemed in comparison to their original versions (And don't get me started on Faith either), like Dysart wanted to just do Imperium, but was shoe-horned into writing a book about teenagers that he never wanted to do in the first place. I also think that you're entitled to your opinions, as everyone is, in regards to Milligan's three issue run on Shadowman; but to me it ruined an otherwise great run Milligan's run was 8 issues... About Dysart, I think you're right, his latter mini series felt more solid by far, he seemed more invested. Did you read Milligan's Eternal Warrior? It's a great moral tale, just a little slow...

I really skipped all valiant things back then because my only friend who was really into it also was heavily into Spawn and Cyberforce...
That being said, I got Shadowman from Acclaim when Ennis, Delano and Jenkins wrote it, and it was alright. I also tried the first 6 issues of all the first wave new Valiant from 4 years ago (Harbringer, X-O Manowar, etc). It was quite well done, good art, but really boring for an adult. I only then got the Milligan Shadowman stuff, which was better than his lame Thor stuff for Marvel, but only marginaly. The concept behind his Eternal Warrior mini was great, but the execution a little slow, and his Punk Mambo one shot felt like good oldschool vertigo with great art. I did also get the Lemire/Rivera mini The Valiant but yet have to read it. Also got some Lemire Bloodshot issues, quite good I must admit.
