Republicans love to portray their doddering old candidates as virile warriors. I summon the shade of Pepi II!

I was today years old when I learned that polar bears have black skin under that fur. It's also believed that it is an important trait, somehow, because no albino polar bear was ever found. I forget when I learned that as well, but I was also surprised when I learned their fur isn't white either but rather mostly clear. The interaction with light just gives it the white look. So a black skinned animal with clear fur somehow looks white! It makes a lot of sense, when we think about it... the translucent hair allows the photons to reach the black skin, where they are absorbed and can help the bear get an extra bit of heat. I'm sure that living way up there, every little bit helps!

It would definitely include Benny Goodman's Sing, sing, sing.

I liked Buckler's work. To me, he was the typical competent but nondescript penciller; not as easily recognizable as Byrne, Perez, Adams, Kirby or Buscema, but not as bad as many others I won't mention. For some reason, I always put him in the same category as Keith Pollard: not an artist whose work I would hunt down, but not one that would turn me off. And I loved his Black Panther.
I never associated him with swiping, although those strips above should definitely have been signed "after Kirby". So many artists did far worse in tha5 regard... (whatever happened to the Swipe File? That was quite an eye-opener).

Forty five years ago today, the Star Wars Holiday Special aired on CBS: I haven’t seen it. I take it there hasn’t been an official release? I have seen bootleg copies at comic conventions. A friend of mine saw it in real time back in the day, but I had judo practice or some such... I was very envious. I only saw it many years later. Despite its many (many!) cringe-inducing faults... It felt more like genuine Star Wars than just about anything else that's not the origina trilogy. Probably because it uses stock footage of the first film and sticks to its original look. Sort of like what Marvel was doing with its comic-book series. I mean, it was admittedly bad Star Wars... but it felt like Star Wars in a way "Attack of the Clones" never did to me.
