Definitely. And that is why I am not keen on some modern comics I’ve read, where a supporting character has a power, armour, becomes a hero, etc. I don’t mind Jimmy Olsen becoming a werewolf or something, but if everyone has some special skill, talent or history, they aren’t ordinary.
I did roll my eyes when Aunt May got some kind of powers in a Marvel Team-Up....one I refuse to own lol
I have a similar feeling about issue #11 of "What If" where the Marvel Bullpen gets the powers of the Fantastic Four. I have every other issue in that series except that one, because the entire concept of it irritates me to no end.

Did not see that ending coming at all. Was both satisfying and bittersweet at the same time.
The first season is one of my least-favorite post-Endgame offerings from Disney, but this season knocked it out of the park for me.

The first two above are two of the three on my list as well. I’m getting Uncanny Avengers #3 because I thought it was an ongoing instead of just a mini-series, which I didn’t learn until after issue #2, and I was already 40% of the way in. I do not like this strategy by Marvel for the X-books, which also bit me in the rear on the latest Captain Britain book, so I’m probably done picking up any more of them since I want ongoings, not one-off minis that tie into events or bridge gaps between events or series. As to the comment from last week about the new She-Hulk series from the same creative team as the just-canceled series, I’m assuming it’s part of their plan to not let the issue #s get too high on things they think a casual fan might be interested in. Can’t scare anyone off with a “2” as the first digit, and it plays into their “think of each series like a season of a long-running television show; same characters, but a different plot, so if you don’t like the current one, just wait until it ends and check out the next one.” Yeah, the renumbering game has always been weird and it is especially so when like She-Hulk it's the exact same creative team. How is the new Captain America? I dropped out on the last one as the whole secret order storyline just went on for too long in my mind. I only picked up the first issue of Cap so far. It wasn’t bad, as it dances between past and present to tell the story. I’ll get issue #2 tomorrow. Been really busy this week and haven’t had the chance to hit the LCS yet.

I'd sincerely like to hear what it was that you found upsetting. I won't be offended if it was something I posted. I say all kinds of dumb things all the time, in spite of what I hope are good intentions. Maybe there's something about my behaviour that I need to change, it isn't always easy to see these things one's own self.
It wasn’t anything from your posts (honestly), but now I feel bad because I didn’t mean to call out anyone specifically. I’ll just say something was mentioned about the Reagan years and it set me off (even though again, I don’t care about the politics of that or pretty much any era). But I appreciate you clearly caring enough to ask, and genuinely wanting to understand. That says a lot. Again, sorry guys, I just have a lot of lifelong issues with my parents’ generation. Well, seeing as I’m the one who specifically mentioned Reagan and the 1980s, I’ll take the blame here. I meant nothing political by it, just using it as a point of reference, but I do apologize for any distress I may have caused you, as that was not my intent in the slightest.

Is that the cut-off for Gen X, 1967? It's always been a hazy concept for me. It’s funny, as my wife and younger daughter and I were discussing this at dinner tonight. Gen X started roughly in 1965 and ended roughly in 1980, as most of the generations have a “squishy” period at the beginning and end where there is transition. For Gen X, it is viewed as the period of societal change, be it civil rights, women’s rights, the counterculture of the late 1960s, and the punk movement of the late 1970s. It’s bookended by the post-WWII period and the Reagan-led 1980s, both of which sought to control society, either via the government or religion or both.

Never had a Facebook, Instagram, or Twitter account either, and I’ve missed nothing. My wife had a FB account but deleted it, and she has an Instagram account currently mostly to keep an eye on what our daughters are doing.
My only social media account is LinkedIn, which has been instrumental in landing me a number of jobs, but I rarely read any posts, articles or comments. Having worked in the natural gas industry previously, many of my old contacts from that world skew toward the conservative side and I have no interest in their views, thoughts, or bashing of liberals. That is why I refuse to connect with anyone at my current company, because I really don’t want to learn anything about them via that medium that would potentially make me think less of them as a person or colleague.

Went out with the younger daughter for a day of "Nerd Shopping" yesterday. She picked up a Funko POP for herself and one for her sister for Christmas, while she saw one that wound up buying for her for Christmas, while I got the following "previously-owned" TPBs:
Arkham Asylum: A Serious House on Serious Earth, 15th Anniversary Edition for $4 The Eternals Complete Collection for $13 (price new is $39.99).

Just finished the first 33 issues of The Avengers, which took a while. Silver Age is not my sweet spot, as I didn't grow up in that era and I can't read it without imposing my "modern sensibilities" on it. What some folks view as "charming and innocent", I struggle with, as I see it as "simplistic and goofy". Certainly not as bad as Silver Age DC, but it's not the easiest read for me.
On to the next set of issues, because every one I finish gets me that much closer to the 1970s, which is really the period of comics I'm most interested in.

I remember really enjoying this story and wishing it was a better artist... Robbins just makes me cringe more often than not..people just don't bend they way he thinks they do. I was just having this conversation with a couple of guys at my LCS last week. Frank Robbins' art is uncomfortable for me to look at, but one of the guys was trying to sell me on "but he created Man-Bat" and "he did so much good non-superhero stuff". Not for me, but if other people like him, that's cool. That's what makes the world go round.

Wasn't that issue the first appearance of the Dweller-in-Darkness? I think he appeared in the Shang-Chi movie, which may have caused the price to spike. Oh yeah!! The Shang Chi movie. At the time that I wrote this, I hadn't seen it yet. So, I couldn't make the connection. Nope, it's actually even worse. It's the first appearance of "Wolverine in an ad for Hulk #181". An 8.0 CGC version sold on eBay for $180 two weeks ago, and a 9.6 CGC sold for $301 a month ago. Unslabbed copies are selling for up to $70, although most appear to be in the $25-$50 range. Thank heavens I got mine out of the $1 bins years ago, because this is what comic collecting has come to these days. Books spiking because of a damn ad.

Three books in my bag this week:
Alice Never After #2 - I really enjoyed the first series and this one continues to be a worthwhile read. This issue finds Alice, as the new Queen of Hearts, dealing with the return of The Cheshire Cat to Wonderland as well as a mysterious ailment, while in the real world, both her father and sister make visits to her former tormentors, the former to protect himself and the latter to see if Alice can be restored mentally to her former state.
Incredible Hulk #3 - This was a fair letdown after last issue, as it was light on story and plot development, while being BIG on mindless fighting. Hulk takes over for Banner and picks up a new companion who is given some specific rules to follow if she wants to keep her place as the Jade Giant’s bestie. Not bad, but not all that good either.
Moon Knight Annual #1 - This ties into something called “Contest of Chaos”, which revolves around a reborn younger and hot version of Agatha Harkness; I knew nothing about this crossover event coming in, and I know marginally more now. My assessment is that a good tree lost its life to print this meaningless steaming turd of a book. Absolutely pointless and a waste of my money.

I wasn’t sure where else to put this, as it’s a question about a modern comic that I DIDN’T read that is connected to a modern book that I DID read.
I’m reading the new Incredible Hulk series, which I’m really enjoying, but as I didn’t read Al Ewing’s Immortal Hulk series, can someone explain what “The Green Door” is all about?
