There is a surprising amount of stuff about the Asbestos Lady online - like she's mentioned in an article from asbestos.com. and she killed Toro's parents!

ARMLESS TIGER MAN!! He’s awesome! He's not a patch on Tigerless Arm Man. I heard that guy doesn’t even own a tiger. Ptooie.

I don't know if this counts: the fact is that there were few Marvel Golden Age recurring villains (they were usually dead at the end of the story). But lately (well the last 15 years) there are a lot of stories that retell classic adventures of the characters set during the Golden Age and obviously the villains appear there too. This is an example: Absolutely counts, but doesn’t feature any villains who debuted in the Golden Age as far as I can tell, other than real historical figures.

I know the Armless Tiger Man appeared in an issue of Pak/Van Lente's Hercules (not a big part). I expect several others to have similar appearances. THAT I did not expect. I guess ATM became a little bit of a meme on comics internet, so it shouldn’t surprise me…. But, no, I never woulda expected him to be back.

Wait, do you mean golden age villains who appeared in stories set in modern times or simply who appeared in stories published after the 1945 but set in the past? Publication after 1949. Even in Marvel books set during WW2 like the Invaders or Sgt. Fury it seemed like most of the villains were Baron Zeno’s; newly created villains that were ret-conned to be active during the war.

I know Roy wrote a bunch of stuff in the ‘90s….. none of which I read. There has to be something there.

Attuma maybe? I know I read stories about him in a masterworks volume, but not sure if it's a golden Age one or a silver age one. I don’t think so. He doesn’t exactly fit my criteria since he debuted in the ‘50s, but I’d be shocked if Prince Byrrah didn’t show up at some point in the last 60 years.

Thank you! You are much more useful on this topic than the entirety of the internet. Except for the Asbestos Lady (who I’d never heard of) I note that all of those were very difficult to google. Apparently the combined Joker/Sabretooth from Amalgam comics was named the Hyena? and I had to dig through both the Avengers bad guy AND the Gooden Age Nedor comics Grim Reaper (apparently) to get to the Captain America foe.

The Red Skull, right? Were there any others? I guess the Fantasic Four fought Hitler, but I guess I’m most interested in fictional characters. We’re (somewhat arbitrarily) defining “Golden Age” as 1939-1949: Starting when Marvel/Timely started publishing superhero comics and ending when Timely stopped publishing superhero comics (for a couple years.)
Sidebar: The publishing history of Miss America is a freaking mess that I am kinda sick and do not feel like untangling. If Miss America (the superhero) kept appearing in Miss America (the comic) or Miss America (the magazine) that changes my timeline for Golden Age. Anyway I thiiiiiiink we have to get all the way up to 1956 before an Atlas Era villain returned for the Bronze Age, and I’m 99% sure that Miss America (the character) was gone by then.
It seems like some of Roy Thomas Invaders villains would have to be from the Golden Age since he brought back every Golden Age Marvel hero short of the Fighting Hobo, but I can’t find any in 20 minutes of googling. (Nods to the Invaders thread.)
Anyway Turtle Man is the greatest Captain America villain and needs to come back.

Literally 4 of these should have been on my list but I didn’t think of them. Sandman is my favorite factory style/mainstream comic series, Gerber is my favorite writer….. I don’t know why Cheryl Blossom is my favorite Archie character but here we are.

I've never read these... at that point I was done with Ellis... I LOVE Doom 2099 and Transmet, but Excalibur was a bit meh for me and at the time I liked what Stormwatch was before he took over (the only original Image book I really stuck with) and for whatever reason carried that annoyance over. I've never been a huge fan of meta stuff like this, so probably best I did... though might be fun to read sometime. Opinions are divided, by which I mean everyone likes it except for me. My top 5 Warren Ellis (who was vey prolific so I haven’t read everything) 1) Transmet 2). Crecy 3) the last arc of the Authority, seriously, only the last 4 issues. 4) Nextwave 5) Global Frequency, but this is soooo close with Frankenstein and Karnak and Thunderbolts.

Is John Cassaday just a bad cartoonist? Is that why I don’t like Planetary? The drawing is pretty good but from the samples here there’s not much sense of kinetic motion or panels flowing into each other. If, say, Steve Dillon had drawn the doll throwing scene above it woulda been hilarious!
