Here's the first look at issue #7! The cover is the only thing done so far, but Mac is working on the first page right now. I'm hoping to have the issue ready for Kickstarter by the end of July, but we'll see. I usually either do the colors myself, or have my flatter put in the basic colors for me and then I do all the finishes. I didn't have time for it this time, though, so I had colorist Adirel Dalla Vecchia do the coloring for me. It's a little bit more painterly / airbrushy than usual, which I think is fine for this issue.

Not coming here to promote, just vent I guess. Vent's not the right word really, but boy. This campaign has been the hardest I've done. I've done more promotion on this than anything I've done before, just hours and hours and hours for months on end trying to make sure this one does well. It's just been a brutal grind, and right now I'm not sure we're going to fund at all. It's really, really discouraging to spend like 5 straight hours doing videos and posts and emails and stuff and the result is someone cancels a big pledge and you go backwards by $100 or more, erasing days of slow gains. That's happened twice so far this campaign and it makes you feel like you're really wasting your time. I really appreciate all the support from everyone here, not just buying the comic, but more importantly just the community here. It's hard to find as much time as I'd like to post here when I'm busy around the clock fighting for every backer to get these comics printed. Days like today it feels like I would have been better using my time just talking about comics instead of making them. The crowdfunding process is really hard work, and just super discouraging. Anyway, that's it, thanks for listening. I love everything about making comics except this part, but without this part I can't afford to make more than one a year, so... yeah. I'm going to try and figure out how to make Quest cheaper in the future so it's easier to hit my funding goal, but for now I'm going to spend the rest of the week until the campaign ends Friday night just screaming into the void of social media. For what It's worth, I'm damn proud of you and impressed by all you've accomplished. I personally can't afford to keep backing each one of your projects, but I'm supporting you in spirit. Looking ahead is important, but don't forget to take a glance back at all you've already accomplished too. Thanks Jeff, I appreciate it.

Fingers crossed you make your goal. I backed and I put up stff on my twitter with comic & ttrpg hashtags trying to draw attention to it. Hopefully you get a late surge to get it funded. -M Thanks man, I really appreciate it very much.

Flessel returned to DC 30 years later in the early 70s to work with Joe Simon. He apparently mostly did inks during that stint, but this is one of a few romance covers from the time (Simon was editor) that the folks at GCD attribute to Flessel.

Magneto's appearances in the late 60s and early 70s prior to the New X-Men relaunch were, for the most part at least, horrible. His Avengers appearances were forgettable at best, and his appearance in the Inhumans story in Amazing Adventures #10 was soooo terrible.
Maybe someone would have something good with him, but I think most of what people like about Magneto was developed by Claremont and company. He was really crap for a long time before they fixed him.

Yeah, that's the wild part! It's pretty... bold... for Marvel to put Nancy and Charlie Brown in a Fritz the Cat parody!

This may sound weird, but bear with me.
I think the series still comes out, but instead of the New X-Men, it's The Champions.
Let's say that the X-Men reprints aren't selling quite well enough to justify using the brand to launch a new book -- it will be a negative, rather than a positive, to call the book The X-Men.
There are several things going on at Marvel that are still happening even if we take the X-Men brand off the board:
1st, the concept of a multi-national superhero team has been floated, so Marvel wants to do that.
2nd, assuming the 1st is correct, Wolverine is created for this purpose.
3rd, Dave Cockrum has quit DC, reportedly over a conflict regarding original art, and come to Marvel looking for work. He's popular and has a following from DC, so Marvel wants to find him a book.
4th, Cockrum already has the character designs for Storm, Colossus, and Nightcrawler among others, that were supposed to eventually be new Legionnaires.
5th, Chris Claremont is looking for an ongoing title - he's been getting work here and there and is ready to make the jump to a bigger book, even if Marvel isn't ready to put him on one of their current bestselling titles.
6th, Marvel wants to get more team books out in general.
So let's put these together:
In the real world, Tony Isabella pitched a buddy road trip book with former X-Men Angel and Iceman, but EiC Len Wein apparently wanted a team book, so he forced Isabella to add some arbitrary team members - supposedly a woman, a strong man, and someone with their own title. David Anthony Kraft comes up with the title "The Champions" but it became a book with no actual concept, just a collection of random characters.
In our hypothetical world, though, where the New X-Men didn't happen we have all the ingredients: a concept (international team of heroes), a group of characters (Wolverine, Storm, Colossus, and Wolverine), and a new hungry creative team (Dave Cockrum and Chris Claremont) all ready to be matched with a team book title (The Champions) in need of all those things.
There is still one thing missing, though. Wein wants a member who has their own title. Black Panther makes sense for the book's concept, and potentially to act as team leader. And it also makes sense for Claremont to bring in Captain Britain: he's international, and Claremont is writing Captain Britain at the time. As we know, he eventually did just this with Excalibur.
So there it is: The Champions by Claremont and Cockrum, with a lineup of Black Panther, Captain Britain, Wolverine, Nightcrawler, Storm, and Colossus.
We know that Claremont likes to write strong women. Frankly, there aren't a lot of good options yet in 1975; by 1977 Claremont is writing Ms. Marvel, so that makes sense, but for the book's launch it's slim pickings. It's possible he's able to bring in Jean Grey since the X-Men would be dormant at this point, and the team lacks an American member. Or it's possible that he and Cockrum use one of Cockrum's other unused Legionnaire designs to make another new female superhero for the book.
Either way, I think the book is a hit, but I doubt it reaches the same heights as The X-Men eventually did.
