Yeah, I saw that myself and was pretty shocked. They released the original Suicide Squad, and the Snyder cut...and Batgirl was worse than those?
That must be pretty dire.

New trailer for the Andor streaming series dropped yesterday. This looks like it's gonna be really good. Rouge One was easily my favourite SW thing since ROTJ came out in 1983, and this series looks like it's going to be a worthy prequel to it. Yeah, that trailer looked really great. I loved the line about the Empire being fat and complacent, really gave me a Zorro vibe.

I'm not going to lie, I nearly teared up when I saw it. It's a great tribute not only to Nichelle but all of our other absent friends from the Enterprise as well. Great memories all around.

Catcher Christian Vazquez came out for BP with the Sox amidst rumors he was going to be traded to tonight's opponent, the Astros. During BP teammates began coming out and consoling/saying goodbye and as Vazquez was about to be interviewed, the Sox PR team came out and pulled him off the field. He's likely in the midst of switching clubhouses at the stadium, but I wonder if he'll play for the Astros tonight. -M That was a gut punch to see, he's been a favorite of mine since I saw him in Portland with the Sea Dogs. Barnes looked like he was crying saying bye to him.

It's been said in the sports and RIP threads already but I thought my recollection fit better here. Yesterday the Lord of the Rings died: Before I had ever read the Hobbit or even knew who Tolkien was I knew the phrase Lord of the Rings as that was how everybody referred to Russell not only in my family but on TV as well. It was always, "Yeah, Michael Jordan is great, but he'll never beat the Lord of the Rings." So, you can imagine my surprise when I first saw the book...and it wasn't about basketball. The fun part of the above picture though is that those aren't all his rings, after like the third or fourth (I can't remember which) he told the ownership he'd had enough rings and would rather just be given cash or a new car instead and so they did so years later when some Celtics photographer came up with the idea of Russell with all eleven rings for a publicity shoot they had to go and ask former teammates to borrow their rings.

With Christopher Tolkien's children seeming to be more commercially minded I wonder how long it will be until we do see a comic set in Middle Earth? I gather the rights issues for the Lord of the Rings and the Hobbit might make a straight adaptation of either difficult but other stuff would seem on the table. I'm not sure I necessarily want more, I'm slightly wary of the new Tolkien "products" being put out by Amazon and WB, but it is interesting to think about. We have had 1 Tolkien comic adaptation, the 3 issue Hobbit mini form Eclipse by Chuck Dixon with painted art by David Wenzel, and it is exceptional. There was also a pseudo-adaptation of the Bakshi movie into comics in the Warren Presents issue, but it used stills form the animated features instead of art created specifically for it. -M Yeah, those were neat but I'm thinking with the Tolkien's looking to further monetize Middle Earth we might see more in the near future.

It was definitely a fun show. Do I wish they had opted for a straight up adaptation of Stan's work? Absolutely, but what they delivered was pretty satisfying once I got beyond that. Oh,I wish that too. Maybe someday. Not like there isn't an abundance of source material! Yeah, I'm hoping that if this show remains popular there might be a "prequel" further down the line.

Ploog was a storyboard artist for Bakshi studios at the time and worked on that production. I am not sure this was from the actual production, but Ploog's style influenced the production and vice versa on this piece. -M You know, I've long thought it was a shame there wasn't a Marvel tie-in adaptation of the Bakshi film, a la Star Wars or Logan's Run or Planet of the Apes. We did get Ploog's short-lived and scattered Weirdworld, of course, and based on that you can see that a Ploog drawn LOTRs comic based on the Bakshi film would've been great. I'm reading issue number one. I really didn't have time to look in to what the dealio was going to be with this (Work is a major time suck lately). It's essentially an Elseworlds without the branding. So that's a huge plus. Superman is much more readable if he's bent even a little bit. And it gives Russell a chance to world build. I loved the art and the idea of Superman through time is interesting but I thought the introduction of the Justice League muddled the story a bit.

Snap was literally the only thing that was decent in the Chuck Wendig books, but I liked him alot less in the Poe Dameron series.. he kinda grew up to be an old Curmudgeon. I'd never say someone should read those, though, so unless you suffered through them, you can't really appreciate it I suppose. It seemed like such an odd story to have all these characters pretending that this guys death was some big deal. A eulogy for Luke or Han? Sure. But having one for Snap is like eulogizing Porkins or the Walrus man from the cantina...what's the point? If it was taking a swing and poking fun at those kinds of "remember when" stories it could have been funny in a meta kind of way but to play it straight is just baffling. Does anyone really think Snap is a big fan favorite character that readers were really wanting closure for?

Growing up, British comics were as much a part of my life as American comics. I couldn't buy 2000 AD every week, but I had a huge stack of them in my collection. Grant and Wagner were stalwarts of 2000 AD during the 80s. Hell, if not for them, who knows if there would have been a 2000 AD? Thanks for the stories, Alan. I really need to get more into 2000AD are there any good collections of Grant and Wagner's work from there?
