Finished up the first run of The Lone Ranger from Dynamite. Overall a good run. Well worth a read.

So I read the 2nd Ostrander Spectre trade (awesome, btw)... I wonder, would you really call that a Superhero book? I mean, there are a couple superheroes in it, but it seems more connected to Constantine and the other Vetigo Magic-y stuff than the mainstream DCU.

I think it's about mid-way between the mainstream DCU at the time and the Vertigo titles that were closely related to the DCU. It is definitely what I would call an adult book given the themes that Ostrander was playing with.

Yeah, reading that in particular, especially with one of the characters going to Lucien's library, makes me want to go read Sandman, Lucifer, Books of Magic and Dreaming again... soon. I promised myself I'd catch up on the to-read pile before starting a big re-read

The Ostrander Spectre series, if you look at my list, is essentially what I'm reading this month. I'm up to 41. I won't be able to finish because I'm missing 59-60 and 62 but I'll at least read 1-58. What is weird is that it is not a Vertigo book. The editor mandates that it is not a Vertigo book and yet there are Vertigo advertisements and checklists in almost every issue. I don't think DC knew internally how to market the book. No matter... a great series.

Finished up the first run of The Lone Ranger from Dynamite. Overall a good run. Well worth a read. I have been recommending Dynamite's pulp comics for a couple of year's now. They look like comics looked like 30-35 years ago and I like that.

I totally agree it's a stealth Vertigo book.. much have been some sort of internal thing not labeling it as such... or maybe just do to the occasional JSA guest star? I've greatly enjoyed the 1st two trades...I have to check and see if they're continuing to get the series out in that format or if I have to track down the singles.

I don't think that they are planning on issuing any trades. The back issues are pretty cheap. I go most of my run in the fifty cent to dollar range. However... #62 is kind of scarce and I have never laid eyes on a copy. Lone Star does not have any in stock, Mile High does not have any in stock, and Ebay has no listings for the individual issue. There are a few complete sets on there but who knows what condition the books are in.

The two trades I have (which covers up to #22) are both recent... the 1st one came out in May, and the 2nd a couple weeks ago (it was in my December DCBS box). There isn't a third listed on Amazon yet. I'll have to do some internet digging and see if it's in the cards or not.

The way DC goes about the trades of classic material like that is they evaluate the sales on each volume before deciding to produce the next, and at most you get 1 volume a year. They have x number of slots for classic material to be collected each quarter and they rotate through a number of series (Grell's Green Arrow 1 quarter, Ostrander's Martian Manhunter the next, Ostrander Spectre another quarter, etc.) and replace those that under perform in the rotation. First quarter 2016 is the earliest you would likely see vol. 3 of the Ostrander Spectre collections if they do another. -M

I was hoping more like the summer... Vol 1 was May, and vol. 2 December. That's a while. might have to start looking on E-bay, even though I'd rather have trades (since I have the two already.)

Spent the first three weeks of the year on all Modern books. I picked up the World War Hulk issues at the end of that run of Incredible Hulk and after reading them, I transitioned into re-reading Incredible Hercules and the attendant mini-series that followed that series, then moved onto reading the short-lived "Herc" book.
As soon as I read the last four issues of that (probably tonight), I plan to go back and finish the Moench/Sienkiewicz Moon Knight run (I stopped around #20 just before Christmas), then run through Fist of Khonshu, Marc Spector: Moon Knight, and the rest of MK's solo stuff.
After that, the plan is to restart the read through the entire run of Captain America. I only made it to #113 the last time, so I will reread the first 14 issues, then plow forward on the next 500 some-odd books.
