January 2015 total :142
I think doing the list got me reading more comics. Really most of what I read in January was pretty good. Snyder's Batman Vol.2 has some nice artwork but the story alternated between murky and dorky, pretty much a dumb action movie. It's a pretty big disappointment after his Detective run with Jock. Got caught up with Black Science and it's pretty meh, as the characters are just not likable and the artwork is often kind of confusing. I'm giving it one more issue and then it might get dropped. The Massive is interesting and some of the artwork is good, but it doesn't fit together as well as some of Wood's other comics. DMZ is solid and unique. Scalped is an excellent crime comic. The Sixth Gun is great. The Fade Out is good but still on the setup at this point. East of West started to kick into high gear.
Hall of Fame worthy: Judge Dredd Case Files Vol. 5 Orc Stain Vol. 1 - It's probably a bit crude for some people, but the creator on this comic book has a HUGE imagination. It's a fantastic created world with interesting characters and mind boggling sense of detail in the artwork. Only a couple more issues have come out since the first compilation, but their website shows previews for new artwork, so hopefully a second volume will be completed this year.

40 books read this month, and while there were some good ones, I found nothing that truly floored me. Next month, I'm going to have to be a little more diverse with my reading and wander off of my "To Read" and "To Review" stacks a little bit, as those favor franchises and runs over exceptional individual stories.

I was thinking, I want to read what the rest of you considered top books at the end of the month. I highly recommend Strange Tales from 2009 and 2010.

I read 84 in January and for the first time in years the majority were not superhero comics. Of course, the majority were Star Wars comics, so not much of a stretch. The Kings Comics event at Dynamite and the expanding Star Wars line will fuel my non superhero reads for the first half of the year.
My Comics Medal Stand for January all came out in the same week and they were all new issues.
1. Star Wars #1 (Marvel 2015) 2. Jupiter's Legacy #5 3. Astro City #19

Well the combination of holidays, my lady still working, and a lack of interest in tv led me to read some 300 odd books in Jan. Im a fairly quick reader with most superhero stuff, and can read at least 6-8 books a day just at work.
To tell the truth i dont know how accurate my tallies are, hard to keep track. On top of all the single issues there are a pile of trades just counted singley(hmm whats the correct spelling here).
My most memorable read was The Sixth Gun, a book I had no preconceptions,or expectations of, but has been consistantly fantastic, and I hope to finish the trades I have this month.
I also worked my way through the first Star Wars Omnibus, which was a real chore to start, but became thoroughly enjoyable once the Goodwin/Infantino team started. I had bought/read about half of the issues as they came out, but had absolutely no recollection of them so enjoyed that. Was very impressed with how Infantinos kinetic energy suited the tone of the book, I do remember not being a fan back in the day, but am now.
Now for the controversial call, Im not enjoying Astro City, its a real chore to read, and thats not good. What I have read has been ok, but not amazing which is what Ive expected from years of praises.
I also loved the new Star Wars, enough that I bought a real copy, my first paper comic in some 15 years, enough that Ive subscribed through a kiwi comicbook shop and will get the various ongoings. Its odd that I really felt driven to get the book because its the Star Wars #1, its not like I felt this way 2 years ago when Dark Horse relaunched, and with over a million printed its never going to be an investment, but I really felt compelled to own it.

Red She Hulk 58-60Please someone save us from giving every person in the Marvel Universe powers and different personalities. Betty Ross was always a mosey nothing and now she’s a badass great fighter with Thing level strength. Fail! I was pretty disappointed when I returned to superhero comics a few years ago and learned that nearly all of Bruce Banner's supporting cast had been turned into Gamma monsters. The real breakout star of the Red She-Hulk issues for me was Machine Man. Not sure why they just didn't give him his own series.

69 comics this month, with none in the last week. Once I got internet back, I let that distract me. My days tend to be busy, so my comic reading time is at night before I go to bed. But once I got internet, I started watching The Wire, and finished Season 1 last week. But that means I spent the last couple hours of the night watching TV when I should have been reading comics. Ah well.
Hands down favorite I read this month was Mind Mgmt vol. 3, certainly my favorite "new" current series (as opposed to long-going favorites Astro City and Usagi Yojimbo) and probably going to end of somewhere among my favorite comics ever. I feel like I read X-Men for decades hoping for stories like Mind Mgmt. I think it's pretty easily my all-time favorite pure sci/fi comic.

103 books read last month. Standouts were Moon Knight #25 (with Black Spectre) and most of the Pak/Van Lente run on Incredible Hercules.
Worst thing I read all month was Superior Iron Man #4. I get that Tony is still dealing with what happened in Axis, but they've just completely mangled his personality. He's not really evil, he's just a douche with a genius intellect. This is probably the last issue of this book I will buy, which hurts because I have every Iron Man issue ever printed except one and it is one of just four books I'm getting monthly, but it just isn't worth putting myself through this drek every month in order to achieve completionism.

Off topic, but while driving to dinner last night, I passed Richards Street and then Bishop Street 2 blocks later. Thought of you. link

I'm almost at that point myself.... I'm sticking around only because I assume it's only going to last until Secret Wars.. if it was an indefinite period, I might well drop it... also, I was concerned Marvel might got the FF route and cancel it. I am reading a nice pile of early 70s Iron Man to wash the taste out of my mouth

Ended up reading 44 books, which isn't a lot for this crowd, but is an insane amount for me.
Best thing I read was BPRD Plague of Frogs, followed by Star Wars #1-4 (original). I knew I'd like BPRD, as that's at least my third time reading those stories, but I was shocked by how much I'm enjoying Star Wars.
Worst thing I read was JLU #5-8 and annual. I won't drop it, because I can't drop a book with Martian Manhunter, but man this book is not good at all.

You know, until this read through it didn't occur to me (or if it did I forgot) that Mignola didn't write all the BPRD stuff.

You know, until this read through it didn't occur to me (or if it did I forgot) that Mignola didn't write all the BPRD stuff. 2003 was a weird year for Hellboy and BPRD, it marked the ten year anniversary and Mignola was in Prague working on the first Hellboy movie so they used a variety of guest writers to go wild with the characters in BPRD and in Hellboy: Weird Tales. What's interesting is that though while many of the weird tales are of questionable canocity all of the guest BPRD stories are in and several have been influential in later stories.
