It was only 90 last year I think, but I didn't go. Heck I just looked it up, and if you make it through the gauntlet the list prices at San Diego are 50 a day so even that's cheaper if you can get one. Wow. That's just plain ridiculous. You know, I know of a lot of folks who still choose to attend Wizard World conventions, but I've yet to hear of a single Wizard World defender -- not one person who's an outright fan of Wizard World over other convention circuits who feels what they do and what they charge is totally justified. So far as I've ever heard, people just put up with it. Dragon*con is still quite reasonable, tho it has gotten way too big for it's own good. However, if you just stick to the Comic Book track? Got into every panel i was interested in, and the large Artist's Alley had tons of the comics guests just hanging out and chatting (as well as signing and selling prints). granted, there are only a couple of "comics" booths in the main Dealer's room -- and most of those are outrageously overpriced, but there's always a couple of local stores with not only reasonable prices on back issues, but also TONS of cheap TPBs. I pick up dozens every year -- hence the empty carry on bags I pack (and before anyone bitches about Ed Kramer -- they took care of that two years ago. He's no longer associated with the con).

and I have never gone to "Wizard World Austin". . mainly because of the things you mention.
the prices are outrageous, and I amazes me every year how many people go!

Just finished up Wizard World Cleveland (I was working, not attending) and there were exactly five back issue dealers there, three of which were charging simply embarrassing prices for junk. My favorites were a guy who was selling an opened Death of Superman for $50 and calling it "Rare", as well as a guy who has everything marked up by literally a thousand percent. He wanted $750 for a F copy of Marvel Premiere #15, and $100 for a random filler issues of Master of Kung Fu. I believe he had $2000 on the Golden Records reprint of Fantastic Four #1. There was also someone (I'm not sure which dealer) telling impressionable idiots that X-Force #1 was the first appearance of Deadpool. I didn't have the heart to ask them what they paid.
Wizard World is NOT for comic lovers. In fact, they didn't even reach out to the local dealers at all. Instead, they rented a table to a lasik surgery center, and another to a siding company.

Wizard World sucks to high heaven. Went to one of their shows and can't say enough bad things about it. I can't even think of enough bad things to say.
Two good things, I guess: The show I went to had a lot of creators (who were all being completely ignored since most of the "fans" in attendance were there to see Z-list TV personalities), and they managed to schedule it at the same time and in the same building as a speech by President Obama. This led to all sorts of logistic problems, of course, but when I left the con, I just walked into the other room and got to see the President in person. That was cool.
Everything else was crap. Luckily, the show did so badly that Wizard World has never returned to Boston.

I got that there are pros and cons to Wizard World (no pun intended), but am trying to find out something specific. This weekend, they are doing Raleigh's first comic con with lots of guests. The wife wants to meet David Tennant. It seem ridiculous, but they state that his panels are only open to VIP ticket holders. VIP tix for Tennant are $375. Photo ops for him have all sold out. The only Tennant autograph session available is Sunday. She wants a photo of him signing her autograph. Do any of you know if they will allow me to snap a pic of her at his table? We really don't want to have to do the VIP since it is SO expensive!

They will have him out of the way somewhere where no one can see him and a VIP line leading into that area. There will also be security guards. They know most Whovians will spend the $375 and intend to be sticklers about it. Welcome to the community, by the way

What if he wore a flower on his lapel like the Joker, only instead of shooting acid it snapped a picture?
