This Medusa is a really interesting mixed media piece by Christopher Lovell and the accompanying tutorial really gets into what techniques he uses. It's a bit longer than I care for when watching someone else draw (50 minute run time) but it's really interesting and damn his skill level is really impressive. For everyone not interesting in sitting through the whole thing I highly recommend just fast forwarding to the good parts!

Andy Warhol's Brillo Boxes are nearly exact copies of the original commercial art packaging although arguably in a different medium. While he didn't make a lot of money from them at the time today the boxes are highly priced and sought after. HBO did a documentary about it called Brillo Box (3¢ off) in 2016.

Fantastic thread & great posts! As someone who is a huge fan of art/paintings (including non-comic book art - LOL) - but who can't draw himself - I really appreciate/enjoy seeing great artwork & sculptures like this. I'm sure there are a lot of other fellow '80's kids on here - one of my favorite artists from that era was Patrick Nagel, who is probably best known for drawing the iconic cover of the classic Duran Duran album Rio (1982). Nagel's art (primarily of women) is definitely iconic, to the point that, even if you have never heard his name, you will almost certainly recognize his work. fashionfollower.com/patrick-nagel-80s-artist/Unfortunately, Nagel tragically died @ age 38 back in 1984.

I thought this homage to the M.C. Escher lithograph "Hand with Reflecting Sphere" by Japanese artist Otomo Katsuhiro is really cool. He is probably most known for his work on the manga Akira as well as its animated film adaptation.

Didn't some of his prints appear on an Antiques Roadshow (PBS) the other night? Valued at $80,000 I remember too.

This 50 foot tall stainless steel statue stands in Chamberlain, South Dakota and is titled "Dignity" by sculptor Dale Claude Lamphere. It depicts an indigenous woman holding a quilt and honors the culture of the Lakota and Dakota peoples. His inscription on the base of the statue reads "I wanted something that would really honor the indigenous people of the Great Plains and I kept that in mind all the time. I made the work reflect the name that it has of 'Dignity', and I think that's part of what makes it work so well." These photos are of the five foot clay model and give a better look of the star design on her quilt.

In my explorations of Afrofuturism, I have discovered several new artists and artistic visions. One of my new favorites is Kerry James Marshall. This is Keeping the Culture-a poster created for the African Festival of the Arts held each year in Chicago. It's from circa 2013 I believe... -M
