The only things I know of Iron Fist are what I've read of him from his appearances in Daredevil (mostly the Bendis/Brubaker/Diggle runs), the first two issues of the current ongoing The Living Weapon, and the Immortal Iron Fist series. So admittedly, my knowledge is nowhere near comprehensive. But here's what I find problematic with the Japanese references. Danny Rand repeatedly calls his martial art "Kung Fu" which implies Chinese martial arts. And everything else about K'un-Lun seems to point to Chinese culture. It just seems odd that he would then use Japanese terminology for his school. And as an Asian American and lifelong martial arts practitioner, it actually bothers me because it hints at an underlying ignorance on the part of the writer, like when Americans see a Japanese person and greet them with "Ni Hao".

The first 5 issues of Iron Fist's run in Marvel Premiere (#15-19) are quite good. I also like the Claremont/Byrne run that starts in Premiere, runs through the 15-issues of his own title, continues in Team-Up #63-64 and concludes in Power Man #49-50. I actually like the character better once teamed with Cage and highly recommend Jo Duffy's run of their combined title (#56-84), one of the most entertaining Marvel series of that era in my opinion. Cei-U! I summon Luke and Danny! Power Man and Iron First 56-84 has been dying in one of my long boxes for two years now... I'll have to read it.

There is a cool fight sequence in Power man / Iron Fist 83, between Warhawk and the Fist: you can see how Danny's circular kick is going to be stopped by his opponent, which is what happens. The choreography shows that Denys Cowan knew what he was talking about (being a black belt and all), unlike many pencillers who are happy with just having characters strike dramatic poses or jumping here and there. like Cei-U, I thought the humour of the Duffy run was enjoyable, as was the case with her Star Wars work! I seem to recall that Duffy wrote her characters with a good humor. She wasn't going for yuk-yuks but had a way of writing well-rounded likeable people.

Duffy's run was definitely the highlight of PM and IF. I think Jo is underrated altogether-- she was an excellent writer on pretty much anything she has worked on.

The new Kaare Andrews series sounds intriguing.
I had a subscription to PM/IF in the 80's. Solid work by Jo Duffy and underrated Kerry Gammill as well.
The 90's H4H Pasquel Ferry art, and that hideous like Her uses had at the time, kept me from buying it. I'll probably pick it up later.

I picked up the first few issues of Iron Fist: The Living Weapon. Wasn't really my cup of tea. I'm hardly well-versed in things Danny Rand so I don't have a lot to compare it to, but it's a definite departure in tone from The Immortal Iron Fist. The best way I can describe it is that it reminds me of a David Lynch movie.

Power Man/Iron Fist is a good series and I used to be quite a fan of it(and still am, actually). However, the series could lay the cheese on quite thick and I never was a big fan of Duffy. I know, I know..it was a corny series with a corny premise. And I did enjoy it, but some of the issues in the series..well, complete dreck. As far as Iron Fist...my favorite issue is #4 in the old series...remember reading it as school when I was a young kid in the 70's. Still have it, although it is old and beaten up...love as good now as in the 70's.
