I haven't read The New Voyages and look forward to doing so.
I've got most of the Devil's Due issues but bought them more out of character loyalty (which is extremely rare) than the outright quality I saw initially.
The new IDW series is going to be great, I think, along with their ROM series too.

I was an avid reader of this series - well, both Micronauts series, actually. They're both among my all time favorites! Yes, The New Voyages is very different than the first series, but I thought it was very good in its own right. The first series was a standard action/Sci-Fi comic with a great bad guy. The second series was more thought provoking and cerbreal, though with less action. Mostly very good art on both series, too, though I did not care for the Ditko stuff. I first thought New Voyages stank, but after re-reading it in its entirety I came to fully concur with your evaluation. It tried to be more 2001 and less Star Wars, and for the most part succeeded. There was some real Kirby-ish grandeur toward the end! I still wonder who the Micronauts currently active in the Marvel universe can be, considering the rather final ending of the series... I once fan-explained their presence by supposing that the renewed Microverse, once it had used the Micronauts to kick-start its rebirth, had relinquished them to their individual form. I could be mistaken, but I think Bug and Marionette are the only ones that might be active in the Marvel Universe, for licensing reasons if nothing else. I think one or both of them may have appeared in one of the Guardians of the Galaxy series, but somebody else around here can probably give better info on that than I can.

Commander Rann was seen also (I believe it was in one of the captain Marvel series from the late 90s), probably since they don't call him "Space Glider". His looks are nothing like those of the toy anyway, unlike Acroyear, Biotron and Microtron, or Baron Karza. Nanotron could probably be used again. But I hope she never, ever will.

They popped up in a few issues of Cable, and maybe a Hulk as well. Can't check now, but will fill in details later if no one else does.

Bug, Mari and Arcturus Rann are still around, and have apparently taken to calling themselves Enigma Force. Before that, they briefly called themselves the Microns. And yes, Bug was, for a time, a member of the Guardians of the Galaxy, too.

And there was a Bug one-shot, and some entries in the various OHotMU.

So a little Micronauts nugget I learned listening to the Pod Stallions podcast (done by the president of Biff Bang Pow Toys and the guy who runs Mego Museum site)...
The origins of the name Baron Karza...
One of Mego's biggest rival in the 70s was a company run by a man named Marvin Azrak, and as Mego was negotiating the rights to the Micronauts line form Japan, this company headhunted a key member of the Mego leadership team, and in retaliation Marty Abrams took a shot at his by naming the villain of the line using Azrak's name backwards. As an another note, Abrams hen had his lawyers file copyright notices for his name and other key Mego execs name spelled backwards so Akrak couldn't retaliate in kind against them.
You can listen to the Micronauts episode of Pod Stallions on youtube...

That's awesome, thanks mrp! I'm a frequent podcast listener, will download that one to my phone right now.
And yes, I'm behind on even my one review a month plan here. But July is science fiction month, so perhaps I'll catch up a bit soon.

I have also heard rumblings that Hasbro is going to have a classic figure re-release 3 pack (Galactic Defender, Space Glider and Time Traveler I believe) as a SDCC exclusive this year, perhaps a portent of reviving the line in the next year (will have to wait for Toy Fair in NYC for any real announcement I'd bet).

Great thread, everyone. First time poster - I just joined today. I'm an '80's kid, and was a big fan of The Micronauts back in the day - though my floppies are all long gone. The first run with Michael Golden art was especially incredible, but from what I can remember all of the issues were great. Here's hoping Marvel (or an another company) will reprint all of those original Marvel issues.
I haven't read them in years, but would pay good $ for a nice series of reprints, either in Omnibus or color Trade format.

IDW currently has the license for Micronauts (and Rom) and have current series of both in progress. There were plans to reprint the ROM stuff, and rumors there could be Micronauts to follow, but nothing is set in stone yet. The new Nicronauts series is up to issue 5 and the secnd issue of Rom is due out this week or next I think. -M
