Tough loss there. I was chewing nails.
We're still just lacking that little bit of quality. We definitely have some, but we're just not deep enough across the squad. One good touch from Wondolowski in stoppage time and we would have stolen that.
USA is definitely coming, though. DeAndre Yedlin and Julian Green both looked great (though Yedlin got caught cheating upfield a bit too much late) off the bench. Yedlin is 20 and only 18 or so months into his career, while Green is only 19. He only played 2 minutes at the club level last season. Sad result today, but you can see the future coming. With Klinsmann under contract through the 2018 World Cup, I think this could be a very interesting next four years.

another 5mins and USA would have had them - Belgium's centre midfield could barely walk while some of USA's players still had some running in them. Agreed! And the US team showed its spirit by not giving an inch even when they faced a 2 goal deficit with only a few minutes to play! A truly good team, and one that does its fans proud. |

Cubs complete the road sweep over the Red Sox tonight.
My memory isn't what it used to be, but I believe this is the first Cubs road sweep of an American League team since James Madison was in office.

You know things are bad for the Sox when they don't beat up on NL teams-they have owned the NL since inter-league play started. Congrats to the Cubbies, they sure looked a lot better than the Sox these past three nights. -M |

Our long national nightmare is over!
Jeff Samardzija (I don't know how Harry would have pronounced that) and Jason Hammel have both been dealt by the Cubs to the Oakland A's for the rights to Reggie Jackson, Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter.
The four game winning streak frightened Theo into making the panic trade since we might threaten to climb out of the cellar.

Our long national nightmare is over! Jeff Samardzija (I don't know how Harry would have pronounced that) and Jason Hammel have both been dealt by the Cubs to the Oakland A's for the rights to Reggie Jackson, Vida Blue and Catfish Hunter. The four game winning streak frightened Theo into making the panic trade since we might threaten to climb out of the cellar. With them getting a huge SS prospect in that deal, I wouldn't be surprised to see Sterling Castro dealt next to a contender for a pitching prospect or live arm for the future of the bullpen. -M |

He might be a little better, but he's not going to be the patient hitter the Cubs are looking for. I agree that Castro will soon be traded. Then he'll turn into Honus Wagner for the next fifteen years, it's just how these things work out for the Cubs. |

Sox take the first game of a day night double header from the O's on a strong performance by John Lester (8 innings, 5 hits, 2 runs 0 earned, 0 walks). Got to love Stephen Drew...finally hits hits his first homer of the season then gets pinch hit for leading off the bottom of the ninth with the score tied 2-2. Gomes gets an infield single, Ross sacrifices him over, due up Jackie Bradley Jr. who has 2 hits on the day, but wait he gets pinch hit for too and Hererra actually gets a clean single to drive in the game winner. I think I disagreed with every move Farrell made int he ninth (including bringing Koji in in a tied game in the ninth when Lester was still going strong) but it worked, the Sox won and that's why he manages a big league team and I watch them as a fan.  -M |

Brazil vs Germany (I support Germany)
Argentina vs Holland
Winners go on to the Finals
Losers go on to a match to determine 3rd and 4th place respectively.
I picked all 4 winners over the past couple days and wagered on 2...

My cousin Jack Sock won the men's doubles title at Wimbledon today, so that's pretty exciting. He's now halfway to the career Grand Slam, it's just that neither of the wins have been in singles - he previously won the mixed doubles title at the U.S. Open.

And his team beat the world #1 Bryan Brothers too. It's time for the US hardcourt season, maybe your cousin can get on a bit of a run as the Open approaches. |

My cousin Jack Sock won the men's doubles title at Wimbledon today, so that's pretty exciting. He's now halfway to the career Grand Slam, it's just that neither of the wins have been in singles - he previously won the mixed doubles title at the U.S. Open. And his team beat the world #1 Bryan Brothers too. It's time for the US hardcourt season, maybe your cousin can get on a bit of a run as the Open approaches. Hopefully. He's had some success at the U.S. Open before, getting to the third round each of the last two years. He's definitely getting better. Last year he didn't qualify for either Australia or Wimbledon in singles, and he went out at the French Open in the second round. This year he made it to the second round at both Australia and Wimbledon and made it to the third round of the French Open. If that trend continues, he might be set to make a deeper run at the U.S. Open this year, though as always, luck of the draw will play a big role. |
