So it's going to be what many predicted for the World Cup semi-finals:
Brazil vs Germany (I support Germany) Argentina vs Holland
Winners go on to the Finals Losers go on to a match to determine 3rd and 4th place respectively.
I wish they did the last four like the round of 32. Go Germany!

Does any other sport have a game between 2 losers to determine which is the bigger loser? Does the 4th place loser help clean up the stadium when the shows over?

Does any other sport have a game between 2 losers to determine which is the bigger loser? Does the 4th place loser help clean up the stadium when the shows over? The NCAA Frozen Four, the collegiate Ice Hockey championship does this (i.e. a consolation game between the 2 losers of the semi-finals). The NCAA College World Series (baseball & softball) does this as well.I believe the Little League World Series does it as well. I am going to guess that once the NCAA and BCS institute the playoff style to determine who plays in the National Championship game, the 2 semi-final losers will play in a consolation bowl, as it will still generate revenue and ratings for the NCAA and BCS. Most Olympic style tournaments do the "consolation" to determine the Bronze medal winner from the semi-final losers. Since the World Cup is built on that Olympic style tournament, I am guessing that is why thy have the consolation match. Plus it will still garner ratings and revenue for the networls carrying the games and the venues hosting the game. -M

Do you subscribe to Anne Coulter weekly or something? 32 nations sign up for this thing, it's not unreasonable to rank the best 4 teams...

The Yankees had one of the most potent line-ups in history known as Murderers Row. The Red Sox may make history this year as one of the most impotent line ups ever, especially their outfield which is on pace to hit the fewest home runs by an outfield in over a hundred years...can we start calling them Murdered Row....the nine who can make anyone who throws the ball look like Cy Yong reincarnated?

As bad as the Sox offense is, he'd bring down the team BA and OBP as sad as that is...Soriano was a decent hitter once, but he was never a good defensive player and now that his legs are essentially gone he is a liability everywhere he plays, including DH... -M

As bad as the Yankee's offense has been this year, the Red Sox is worse.Maybe you should try Soriano.I think when the Yanks signed Beltran during the off-season,it did a number on Soriano's head, knowing it was going to cut into his playing time.A new team a the final year of his contract might be the motivation he needs for the 2nd half

My what a litigious society we live in...a fan caught on camera sleeping at a Red Sox Yanks game back in April is suing ESPN, MLB and the Yankees for the emotional distress being shown sleeping on camera has caused him.... Articleoy vey! -M
