Tonight's win against the Orioles was a monumental achievement for the Sox. Since it was technically a 1 game series, it gave the Sox their first series win against an AL East opponent this season.

Fernando Tatis Jr of the San Diego Padres just got slapped with an 80 game ban for PED use. He's young, he still has a chance to accomplish great things in MLB< but his legacy will now forever be tainted.

Tatis has a contract for 14 years with an average salary of $24 million. With that much money at stake you'd think he has a personal trainer and possibly a nutritionist on his payroll besides availing himself with what the team supplies him. Getting caught using PEDs these days is NOT from an accident, especially with these top-tier paid athletes.
Unless they are absolute morons

I'm looking at Tatis' salary contract and it's a bit unusual. He'll only make close to 6M this year, 8 M next year, 12M in 2024, then it jumps to 21M for 2025-26. 25M for 2027-28. Finally close to 37M from 2029-2034 ending at age 35. If you were to forfeit salary, it's this year to do it

If you were to forfeit salary, it's this year to do it His extension mirrors the salary growth he would have gotten through the arbitration and pre-free agency years and increases a lot the year he would have been eligible for free agency to give the team some of the salary flexibility it would have had during those years had they not extended him. He's earning more than he would have without the extension, but the big numbers come later in the contract. Tatis excuse is that it was inadvertent and the substance was in the meds he was taking for ringworm. 1) ignorance is not an excuse and 2) there are several treatments out there for ringworm, just as me, the ordinary citizen should ask my doc what potential side effects are in any prescription I get, any professional athlete should be asking the doc about every scrip they get if it has any side effects or any potential hazards for the drug testing they have to do regularly. Not doing so isn't inadvertent, its negligence on their part, and they get what they deserve. -M

Yanks cough up another lead. Not shocked Yeah, Sox grind out a come from behind win, tying it in the ninth and newly acquired Tommy Pham walking it off with an RBI single in the 1oth. Sox almost botched it though as it looked like Arroyo missed the sign on a squeeze play earlier in the inning and couldn't score form 3rd on the bunt. Yanks in a rough patch since the AS Break. Judge has a solo shot (and his 100th RBI on the season, fastest to do so in 10 years) but Yanks can't muster much else. -M

Whitlock was nails in the ninth and tenth, and Barnes and Brasier were impressive in the seventh and eighth.
Eovaldi was gritty, going a tough six.
Sox’ second walk-off against the Yanks.

This series might be closer than I thought it was going to be around the time of the All Star Break. Not because the Sox have gotten any better then they were then, but because the Yanks are now scuffling too. If the Yanks find a way to break out of their funk, the Sox will get drubbed. -M

Devers, unfortunately, is in a Slough of Despond-style slump. He's overswinging (at everything), popping up and striking out. No attempt to shorten or control his swing. Had a double tonight early, but was quiet after that. Sox have beaten NY five times in 11 games, more wins than anyone else has against them. They play each other tough for the most part. Hoping for good ballgames this weekend.

This may be the worst All Blacks team of my lifetime. I've seen bad All Blacks side before, but they weren't losing by record margins. Haven't seen it yet but I read the score already by mistake. Yes, they've never had a run this bad in my rugby-watching memory, which is from around 1990 to now. And I think it has to be in large part a coaching/tactics problem: the fact that they weren't able to adjust over a 3-game series against Ireland really makes it seem that their whole approach is wrong. Individually, I think they can stand with the best in the world, position by position, perhaps with a few exceptions in some key forward spots, but as a team, they've become too predictable on offence and a little unreliable at times in defence. Finally got to see the first NZ vs SA game and I'll have to go back on my original statement: it wasn't only the tactics, the All Blacks were outplayed man-to-man too at more than just a few positions. Looking forward to see what adjustments they make for this weekend's match!

Red Sox great Mo Vaughn wore it until 2003(with his sad end with the Mets), and Mariano Rivera of the Yankees wore his #42 all the way until 2013 when he retired. Come to think of it, I don't think any of the players who had #42 before it was retired opted to change numbers.
