(I’m so glad the Cardinals and the Giants are already out of it.)

Looks like youtube has most of the Women's Rugby World Cup games up so I'll be able to see them there. Just watched Australia-NZ, which was very entertaining, even though I knew the result. I'll try to see what I think will be the more competitive matches and avoid at least the more extreme blow-outs.
Women's rugby seems to be in a roughly similar situation to womens hockey, though not quite as bad as the latter, in which two national teams, the US and Canada, perpetually contend for top spot and everyone else is a level below. In rugby, England has taken a step forward from the other top teams but I think France and NZ will catch up to them soon, probably within the next two or three years. And I think the next tier - Australia, Italy, the US, Ireland, Scotland, Wales - aren't nearly as far behind as in hockey.
Canada's in a funny position in that they've pretty cnsistently ranked quite high - 3rd at the moment, ahead of France - but I fear that with the game becoming more professional they'll start to fall back over the next few years. But for now, they're one of the best teams out there apart from England and NZ and I think probably France too, although the rankings don't reflect it.

I've only been watching highlights on YouTube, but the Black Ferns are more exciting than the All Blacks right now. Their attacking style reminds me of how rugby used to be played before all of the league coaches took over. Ruby Tui is a gem.

I've fallen behind already but hope to see at least a few of the more crucial and competitive games - not only the top teams (England, NZ, France) but close matches from the next level as well (that Wales-Scotland match sounded like it would be good to watch).
Agreed about the Black Ferns. The other wing is pretty amazing as well, her name momentarily escapes me. They seem to have stand-out individuals at nearly every position so I think it's only a matter of time before they start catching up to England, who has jumped ahead of everyone over the Covid-period, it seems.

And now the Trail Blazers are 4-0!
I knew this year's team was good, but I didn't expect a four-game winning streak to start the season!

Best start to the season since '99. The end of that season is still a painful memory. Game 5 tonight against Miami. Go Blazers!

My Portland Trail Blazers have started the season with two victories! Any other NBA fans here? I used to keep an eye on the NBA back in the 90s but was never a big fan. These days, I couldn’t name anyone in the league beyond the biggest stars, and that’s only because they are the ones who get all the press. I sometimes see that some guy I’ve never heard of signed a $20MM+ AAV contract and I wonder who he is and where he came from, because I stopped paying attention to college basketball about 15 years ago as well. That said, hope your Blazers have a great season!!

Former Red Sox catcher, Christian Vazquez, became only the second catcher ever to catch a no-hitter in the World Series (joining Yogi Berra). Astros pitchers threw a combined 9 inning no-hotter tonight, their starter going 6 and 3 relievers each pitching 1 no-hit inning to finish it of.
