I suspect the Oregon Ducks will be using a couple of those Kirby designs in the near future.

Joba is a closer for the Tiger ? HAW HAW HAW HAW HAW .Good luck to them HEE HEE Well Joe Nathan is the closer but he was unavailable tonight because he threw too many pitches last night and he has been terrible this year. Joba is their set up guy and had been unscored upon in his previous 12 appearances....but the Sox have owned Joba throughout his career essentially. Both Pedroia and Ortiz have career averages against him well above .300... Of course with Nathan's struggles, fans had been calling for Joba to be the closer...I think Detroit fans may have gotten a taste of what that is like tonight and it may sour them on it, then again the Tigers closer has been a roller coaster ride called Valverde ever since they crawled back into being a contender a few years abck, so those fans expectations might be realllllly low and still want Joba....or not. -M

RE: Kirby football designs....
The NFL needs to find a way to surround the ball with Kirby crackle whenever it is in motion in televised games, but Kirby couldn't illustrate modern football games because it seems all hittiong has been banned from he game so there would be no action for those double page action spreads to feature.

Any excitement generated in Red Sox nation by last night's come back win went out the door tonight as that Ace of Aces Bud Norris silenced the Sox bats in Baltimore and the Birds hit as many home runs (3) as the Sox had hits on the night. I'm starting to gird myself for a long summer...
but hey at least we haven't stooped to hiring a shaman to come in and do a pre-game ritual to turn the tide like the Rays did...

I'm excited because my beloved Pirates finally called up their top prospect, RF Gregory Polanco, after leaving him in the minors long enough to avoid Super 2 arbitration status. He's been tearing up the International League and was recently rated the #3 prospect in baseball by Keith Law, so having his bat and defense in the lineup the rest of the season will definitely help as the Bucs go for their second straight winning season after 20 years of futility.

Buchholz is inside his own head which is never the sign of an Ace. I'm sure Shaugnessey has some terribly cynical thoughts on it...

I tuned out Shaughnessy 20 years ago and it was maybe the best sports related decision I've ever made.

I don't miss the Boston sports media at all. It's just too much day and day out.

Another big win for Masahiro Tanaka.Without him,Yanks would be battling for last place in the division over 10 games back easily. He is now 10-1 with a 2.02 ERA in 93 2/3 innings striking out 103 batters and 14 walks.American League Cy Young so far. If only the Yankee offence could get going but McCann,Beltran and Soriano are all doing squat

If only the Yankee offence could get going but McCann,Beltran and Soriano are all doing squat The guys on MLB Tonight were discussing Tanaka last night and one of them mentioned that he should get consideration for not only the AL Cy Young but also the AL MVP. I'm not normally a fan of pitchers being included in that conversation, primarily because starting pitchers will appear in 20% of their team's games while position players typically are in 85% or higher. However, as you point out, without Tanaka, the Yankees would be dead in the water, so I could actually be persuaded to change my mind in this case. And McCann, Beltran, and Soriano are producing nothing? I'm shocked, I tell you, simply shocked that a 30-year old catcher with a lot of mileage and two OF at least 37 years old would be struggling, along with their 40 year old SS and 36 year old 2B. They have one (1)!!!!! player under the age of 30 with more than 60 AB on the season, and their farm system is pretty poor, so unless they find the fountain of youth, the next 3-5 years are going to be pretty rough on them.

I watched the opening game of the World Cup today! Brazil beat Croatia, 3-1.
You know how some soccer players have only one name? Brazil has 4 or 5 starters with only one name. And one of them is ... Hulk!
This is not a joke!
While I was watching, I wondered what he was thinking ...
Why ref not like Hulk? Hulk just wants to be left alone to play with ball! Why do Croatians attack Hulk no matter where Hulk goes on field? Now ref is waving stupid yellow card at Hulk! HULK SMASH!

His dad was a comics fan and did indeed name his child after... Hulk!
