And Hanley's second bomb of the day is of the Grand Salami variety! -M Wish I could readjust my pre-season predictions. Phils, stink, of course, so must stay focused. Ynaks lost, though, so we're a game up on them.

Sox and Porcello agree to a 4 year $82.5 million extension. I thinkit's a good move on the Sox's part, but we'll see.

Duke wins and now Mike Krzyzekski stands in second place alone with 5 National Titles as a coach.
He's going to keep winning until someone gets him to say his name backwards and send him back to the 5th Diimension.

Pedey proves he still has it I just saw he had hit his second homer of the day! And Clay has been excellent going 4 scoreless so far and keeping his pitch count under 50 pitches in doing so. It's one day, and there's 6 months to go, but it's the kind of start so far that gives hopeful outlook on some of the big questions the Sox were facing coming into the season. -M PS and now Hanley goes deep. 4-0 on 4 solo shots. Feels like 1978 all over again for the Sox More like '77. Remember, we had pitching in '78.

Hurray the Cubs are rained out tonight.
By the time the game is made up, Kris Bryant and more restrooms will be at Wrigley Field.
Odds look decent for another rainout tomorrow.

Congrats to my old hometown team, the UConn Huskies for winning the NCAA Women's Championship, the tenth title for coach Geno Auriemma tying him with John Wooden for most college basketball championships of all time. Was never a big UCOnn fan growing up (they didn't come into prominence until I was much older), but had a lot of friends who bled Husky blue back home.

Thanks to a hit batter, an errant throw, and a clutch hit (also known as an Act of God). Shot of the day by 75 year old Jack Nicklaus during the Masters Par 3 Tournament.

MLB created new pace of play rules because games were getting too long and the worse offenders were Red Sox-Yankees game. Tonight is the first Sox-Yanks game since the rules were put in place...it's now in the 15th inning...so much for quickening up those games!
-M
Edit to add-the game has been so long that Mark Texiera was 34 years old when it started, and is now 35....

Well it took 6 hours and 49 minutes to play all 19 innings, but the Sox take their first game of the year against the Yankees 6-5. Sox had to take the lead 3 times in extra innings before they could hold on to it to win. Xander Boegarts was 4-4 with a walk and a stolen base in extra innings alone, while Napoli struck out 4 times in extra innings alone. Shane Victorino didn't enter the game until the 10th inning and still had 5 plate appearances. Stephen Wright pitched the final 5 innings in relief (Miley the starter only managed 5.1 innings mind you) to get the win. Saturday's game starts in less than 11 hours. I'm betting both teams send relief pitchers to the minors to call up fresh arms-Sox will have to activate Joe Kelly as Wright was supposed to start tomorrow for Kelly initially but Kelly looked ok on rehab so was going to get the call to start off the DL, so it's likely Wright going down to make room since he went 5 tonight).

Bogaerts had four hits in the game, all of which came after the 9th inning!
Classic extra-inning game, with the benches empty, the bullpens empty and the crucial play a passed ball by the Yanks' back-up catcher. I'm guessing Brock Holt, the only Sox player still on the bench, was going to pitch had the Sox had to remove Wright.

Just ended at 2:14 a.m. FINALLY! I had stopped watching in the bottom of the 6th and picked it back up around midnight when it was in the bottom of the 14th. Everybody who stayed for all 19 innings should get an "I survived" shirt. Time-wise, it's the longest game in Red Sox history. Inning-wise, longest Red Sox-Yankees game since August 29, 1967. Glad the Red Sox pulled out the win. Ortiz crushed that ball in the 16th inning. He musta been so frustrated inside when it was tied again in the bottom of the inning. But Wright was able to pull it out somehow. Napoli was 0-8 in this sole game, lol. Holy Cow ... 2:14 in the Morning ... Unbelievable ... Great Post Anyway!
