Golden State Warriors swept the Pelicans and I just can't believe the 3rd Game of the Series - Pelicans had a 20 points lead and you all know the rest of the story ... Stephen Curry was unstoppable today, 11-20 FG, 6-8 3PTS, 11-12 from the line for 39 pts. Thompson added 25 and Green with 22.
4-0 Warriors.

I've officially got no read on the AL East, other than the Red Sox need vast improvements with starting pitching. If this continues, no team will run away with this division. I think they might all finish 81-81.

I've officially got no read on the AL East, other than the Red Sox need vast improvements with starting pitching. If this continues, no team will run away with this division. I think they might all finish 81-81. Well the current standings are pretty much the exact inverse of the way most people predicted the division (Ray, Yanks, Sox, Jays, O's currently). The Sox certainly took in on the chin today, but the win by the O's only evened the season series between the Sox and them. Currently the Sox starters have the worst ERA in the majors, yet they are a game over .500 and 1 game out of first. And the offense (in terms of runs/game and batting average) has not been that good either, so they are not bashing their way to victories. The bullpen has promise, but is currently way overworked. They have benefited by opposing teams having the complete inability to play defense against them, and there's no guarantee that will continue, so there is cause for concern. However, it's only been 3 weeks. Never judge a season by April, guys start slow, guys start hot, but it tends to even out over 162 games. There is definitely cause for concern with the rotation to be sure, but I don't see Cherington making a move yet, in fact I think the Cardinals (who just lost Wainwright for the season) making a move for a starter before the Sox do (and possibly driving up the market price for an ace right now)...maybe Hamels finally gets moved there. The Sox have some internal options (Johnson is tearing it up at Pawtucket currently) to explore before they make a deal out of desperation, and unlike the Cards situation where you know Wainwright's not coming back, some of the guys in the Sox rotation can still pull it together and have a decent year. If we get to June 1 and things still look bleak, then you start looking at what moves you can make, but it's too soon to blow things up just yet, and like everyone has said, no one's going to run away with the division so you have time to figure things out and try to get it right. -M

Hanley is certainly the powerhouse though, huh? And honestly they need to use more of Brock Holt. He's fantastic. My grandparents ran into him and Napoli in Florida the other day, they were exercising in the hotel hallway. Good guys? Or didn't your GPs have a chance to chat with them?

Angels outfielder Mike Trout has hit a homer off Rangers pitcher Anthony Bass. Former Angel outfielder Tim Salmon admired it from afar

Good guys? Or didn't your GPs have a chance to chat with them? They were real nice. I think they were doing some fast criss crosses with jumpropes in the hallway and Napoli jokingly asked my grandmother if she wanted to try (since she's 78 she declined, haha). They briefly talked with them and my grandmother told Brock Holt that he was my favorite player on the team and he was evidently beaming with a big smile. The only thing my grandparents had on them was one of those hotel notepads but Holt and Napoli gladly signed their autographs on the pad, which is now in my possession. They also ran into Don Orsillo heading into the hotel gym and he posed for a few pictures. Nice. All three come across as genuine. Glad to hear they were not stuck-up. Nice game tonight, btw. Koji looked great and so did Betts!

Hmm, just read former Sox stalwart Jarrod Saltalamcchia was DFA's by the Marlins when he returned from the paternity leave list. Rumors of possible trade with 5 different teams though (Sox among the 5 but Diamondbacks seem to be the most interested). Not sure if he would fit back with the Sox and he is far behind Hannigan defensively, but it would provide a little pop form the catcher spot if he can improve his slash line from the abysmal lows it's reached since he left the Fens. I'd rather stick with Hannigan (and wait on Swihart to be ready), but if Salty does become a free agent I could see signing him for the Major League minimum as insurance, just not giving up anything of value for him.

After being postponed due to the riots occurring in Baltimore last night, the White Sox-Orioles game will be played tonight, but it will be closed to the public-no spectators at all. It will be a game played essentially in a vacuum.

I've learned from that after having lunch with my brother today.

The teams will have a doubleheader in Baltimore May 28 to make up the other two games. The Orioles have had their weekend series against the Rays moved to Tampa, so they'll be playing in empty stadiums four games in a row.

I knew it was Wednesday's game, as that's what I read, unfortunately, I have spent much of today thinking it was Wednesday (not Tuesday) for some reason...dotage and the onset of senility possibly? I realized my mistake a couple of hours ago when I saw a blurb about tonight's game being postponed on the television news coverage of the events in Baltimore. -M

Red Sox troubling stats...
Sox pitchers have allowed 34 runs on 43 hits in the last three game...
Yikes.

SO Sox finished April with a solid start from Procello to win the series from the Jays, finishing 2 games above .500 and a game out of first. Hanley Ramirez finishes the month with 10 HR tying his career best for a month and the Sox club record for April (shared withPapi in 2006). And if you had told me Mookie Betts was going to be second on the team in RBI at the end of the first month, I would never have believed you. Panda has also been solid and Pedey looks like he's healthy again, so there's some things to make you feel good after a month. But the rotation and bullpen are still a mess. Vavaro was DFA'd today and the Pawtucket shuttle for relieves is in action again, with Tommy Layne and Cuban prospect Hinojosa coming up the replenish the depleted ranks. So bring on May and the Yankees!
