In other new I loved the new book by Dustin Nguyen and Jeff Lemire, Descender. It's a truly beautiful sci-fi book that managed to pack a lot of heart along with a hard sci-fi feel. It's like the Little Prince meets Magnus Robot Fighter...and I love it. This sounds VERY intriguing. I shall be checking it out. I think it'll be right up your ally

Yeah I was reading The Killers until I took some time off to read a book. I'm taking a break from reading in general right now, but probably won't last too long.

Just stopped by an AWESOME comic shop downtown Redlands a little while ago after work. The place was amazing. Downtown Redlands is a beautiful little spot and this building was in a really nice area right ont he corner. Plenty of parking for such a destination. Next to nice looking little pubs and bakeries and coffee houses. The exterior windows (and there are a lot of them on that corner building) are ALL muraled with comic book themes. And not cheap looking amateur stuff either. If you're in the area it's worth stopping by just to check out the windows. Inside is almost all trades and hardcovers. LOTS of premium oversized hardcovers. They pretty much had everything on my want list, a ton of stuff I didn't know existed, and I wanted all of it. It seems as if they have every TPB and graphic novel from just about every mainstream-indy publisher. Walls of Marvel and DC omnibuses. They had it ALL. It was fantastic. Their back issue selection looked slim, and their new floppies section didn't seem any larger than the small comic shop by my house, but it's great being able to hold a premium hardcover in person before buying it. So many $50-$100 books on Amazon that I'm hesitant about because I couldn't get a feel for it. Now I can see the thickness, the weight, the quality of materials, the dimensions of the pages. I could have spent a fortune in there if I had a fortune to spend. I ended up getting this. But I definitely will be back. Even if it's a 2.5 hour drive round trip.

Anyone have thoughts on DC's latest cover controversy, namely the Joker variant for Batgirl #41? I've been banging my head against the wall on another forum arguing with people who literally can't seem to even understand why anyone would have a problem with it. Even if you like the cover and think it's appropriate, I would think it would still be obvious why other people might disagree. But apparently not. Sometimes the comic community in general really makes me despair. Apparently DC has cancelled this variant at the request of Rafael Albuquerque, the artist of the cover.... story on CBR-M

Threats of violence and harassment, though? That seems like a way for DC to give in while also walking away trying to sound like they're in the right. All of the major high profile criticisms I've seen of that variant cover were calm and civil. If anything, the message they conveyed was against the kind of violence that the gamer-gate crowed yearns for in their entertainment.

I read that press release from DC and the first thing I thought was, they don't actually say who the threats were made against, but they've written it in a way to make themselves and Rafael look like the victims. Sure enough, according to Rafael and the current Batgirl writer, it turns out those threats were not against Rafael at all, but rather were made by people defending the cover against people who opposed it. I had a feeling that was the case as soon as I read the vaguely worded release from DC. Chicanery at its finest from their public relations people.

The Batgirl creators went on Twitter that the threats were made against the people criticizing the cover, not against himself. It's the Gamergate crowd all over again.

The folks doing Archie's horror titles have supposedly finally gotten their act together. They announced today that they will be launching a new horror imprint, cleverly titled Archie Horror. This line will have three books in it: Afterlife with Archie, Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, and an as-yet unannounced third title. They also announced that Chilling Adventures of Sabrina #2 will finally be coming out on April 15, while Afterlife with Archie #8 will finally be coming out on May 6. That means both titles will have had a six month gap since their previous issue by the time they come out. But they totally swearsies that there will be no more delays like this going forward. Here's the whole story: www.ew.com/article/2015/03/19/archie-comics-announces-new-horror-imprint-teases-series
