Just saw that Brian Wood has a new series out with artists Andrea Mutti and Jordi Bellaire set in the American Revolutionary War out this week from Dark Horse. Anyone happen to pick this one up this week? Brian Wood seems to be hit and miss for some readers. Don't really know much of the super hero work he has done, but I thought his Viking comic Northlanders was excellent and DMZ very good. The Massive was intriguing, but kind of flawed perhaps because it seemed to have a shorter run than maybe originally intended. Haven't read Wood's Conan but that seems to not be that well received by some readers.

I have it on my DCBS pull... I'm not a particular fan of Brian Wood, but I'm happy to support anything history-based

I just finished reading this and it was amazing, I loved the focus on the characters and Wood's story about growing up in Vermont gave it an even greater resonance.

Yeah, it's a good first issue, and I think it's going to shape up to be a great series. Wood showed he does his homework with Northlanders, and this seems like a similiar passion project for him. After a lousy Conan run and a tepid X-Men run, it's nice to see Wood regain some form.

I've heard tons of good things about Northlanders, and it's vikings so that's a plus so I'm thinking I really need to look into it.

Some arcs are stronger than others, but overall, a quality series.

I noticed I didn't comment on this while I was looking for something else!
Very strong first issue... looks like he'll be focusing on the less known bits of the Revolution, which is awesome. I'll certainly be sticking with it.

I'll certainly be sticking with it. The second issue was even better, it had some great character beats and some action. The best parts of both issues so far though have been what Wood has termed his, "essays" I love his perspective on the term patriot transcending left and right.

Definitely agree issue 2 was better... we're starting to see some character, we have the revolution developing, and we get a cool action sequence. I really thought the pages with Mercy simply doing her chores with the Indians looking on from the woods were really cool.
In contrast... Order of the Forge, where we have George Washington and his magic Axe cursing at Paul Revere as they go get Ben Franklin out of a brothel to do his kite expiriment. Yeah.

That's what order of the forge is about!? ... I might need to pick up an issue out of morbid curiosity

I'm a trade guy, but I'll definitely be checking out the first trade. Northlanders has earned him a free buy of his next historical fiction comic.

The comic starts with young George Washington getting caught lying (about a girl) to his dad. They fight, and he goes out and chops down the cherry tree, which his father planted to show the familes permanance. After he does so, he discovers an Indian Totem behind it, which magically puts runes on the axe and makes his eyes glow. We then skip to an unnamed colonial city some time later, where what I posted eariler happens. At least Manifest Destiny was a little historically based.. they just added in monsters and zombies. This one loos way, way worse. OTOH< it's only a 3 issue mini, so maybe it'll fall in the so bad its good category.
