Can you recommend any super-in-depth comic podcasts? Ones where they REALLY know their stuff? I'm guessing there aren't many podcasts like that, as there are just too many comics: nobody can be an expert on everything. And if you focus on just one niche then you don't get much of an audience. But I'm hoping.
I ask because I often listen to Comic Geek Speak, which I love because they're so good natured, but they are the first to admit that they often haven't read X or Y. Occasionally they'll interview somebody who really knows their stuff (like the golden age Superman guy) and those are wonderful. Are there more podcasts like that? Not just on comics - other pop culture too. Preferably long-ish: there is something wonderful about hearing a real expert being given all the time they need.

It's not comics but The History of Rome podcast is really good. It's about 180 episodes or 90 hours spent on the Roman Empire.

I agree. That's exactly the kind of thing I want. I listened to that at the end of last year - haven't tried his new podcast on revolutions yet. This week I also discovered the BBC History Extra podcast: www.historyextra.com/podcasts it's better than the regular history shows IMO, as it lets actual experts take as much time as they need to talk about things. I'd love to see something like that for comics, where they could get the world's biggest X-Men nerd, or some of the people from TwoMorrows. Or even a keen amateur who takes a comic really seriously. But maybe there just isn't the market for that. |

As for experts talking about stuff. Do you care about wrestling at all? Steve Austin's podcast can be really amazing when he has another wrestler in and they're just talking shop.

I've never followed it, but I enjoy listening to anyone who's an expert at what they do, when they have the time to really talk.

www.stusshow.com/ is a weekly Internet radio show Mark Evanier always speaks about.It airs for free Weds at 4PM .Afterwards downloads are 99 cents each.The show lasts a few hours and they are interviews with people from comics,animation,show biz etc. |

For all things Batman, try Kevin Smith's Fat Man on Batman . Kevin talks to all parts Batman...from Neal Adams to Bruce Timm to Mark Hammill and everything in between.

Thanks. So far that's two serious podcasts for DC and none for Marvel. This supports my long held theory that the most hardcore DC fans are more hardcore than Marvel. Yes, there is a handful of insanely deep fans at Marvel -(e.g. the Original Marvel Universe blog, or the Pierre Comtois books) but DC seems to have more of them. That's just my anecdotal experience. Do you guys get the same feeling?

I'd like to give my thanks to this thread as well. Comic Geek Speak alone is a treasure trove. I love listening to stuff like this at work (Tonight will be Batman in the Bronze Age, Incredible Hulk Spotlight and Marvel in the 60's)
