My being 5 years old at the time prevented me from buying off the racks but in my high school years i did manage purchasing 4 gems of the time.
Avengers 43. Part of my growing collection of complete Avengers at the time and a Russian version of Cap? Had to get even if i wasn't trying to build my Avengers collection.
Fantastic Four 66. Again bought as part of completing my FF collection.
Hawkman 21. Lion versus Hawk!!! Need anything more to have you wanting to buy?
Two Gun Kid 89. bought lots of the Marvel Westerns of Two Gun, Kid Colt and Rawhide as used whenever i could find them at thrift stores and yard sales. One issue with all 3 was a no brainer even if it was a might on the tired and read often side. If i remember this one was found in a Salvation Army while in Payson during a summer vacation visiting my grandparents.

Again bought as part of completing my FF collection... I bought these 2 comics as back issues a couple of years after their publication. That's still my favorite Avengers cast--Hank Pym (Goliath), Hawkeye, Wasp, Quicksilver, Wanda, and Cap, plus Hercules and Black Widow.

Not sure if I actually bought this comic in June -- I suspect it was later in the summer -- but I was thrilled to find it in a store that only briefly carried comics... and they were all just tossed on a low counter, IIRC. Jumped at this b/c It was the first time I'd ever seen a copy of Rawhide Kid. Ah, those moments way back then when you found a comic you'd only seen mentioned here or there in a letters page or an ad! Sad to say, it was months before I saw another copy. Also picked up this great issue of the Howling Commandos; Over at DC, I picked up Batman 194, with this famous cover: and, the real treasure for me, the very first issue of Brave and the Bold (in its team-up phase), and only the second or third ever, that I'd ever seen, an odd teaming of Aquaman and the Atom. (Cool cover! I wonder if Infantino ever drew either character other than here. Have to check.) I was thrilled, and with the exception of the next two issues, from then on I was able to find B and B on the stands right through the final issue. (I was able to find most of the others later on.)

That's still my favorite Avengers cast--Hank Pym (Goliath), Hawkeye, Wasp, Quicksilver, Wanda, and Cap, plus Hercules and Black Widow. Same here with this cast being a favorite. Quite diverse power sets and Herc gave them Thor level strength without all of the extra's. Always felt like this version of the team had to work harder and smarter to create wins without relying on Shell-head and Goldilocks for the default win. And I am a big Hawkeye and Goliath fan so this team rocks for me. Most of the Avengers and FF of my collection I began tracking down in the late 70's but I had the occasional off the racks of these earlier times which was what hooked me on both teams. I remember for certain having this issue of Avengers off the rack along with the intro of Hercules to the team in an earlier issue. Both if i can recall correctly being bought for me by my grandparents during illnesses.

Now as for July 1967, my family and I were still vacationing at the Jersey Shore, where--as I mentioned last month-- there was this absolutely fantastic boardwalk concessions stand with a spinner rack. Throughout that summer vacation as a weekly treat, my mother gave us kids a choice of buying comics books or coloring books. Guess what I opted for. World's Finest #169. My favorite comic from that summer, with great Swan-Klein art. Also, I hadn't managed to pick up any comics featuring Batgirl since her debut months earlier in Detective #359, so I snapped this one up as soon as I saw it. I was so enthralled by this comic I wrote a letter in which I commended the Supergirl-Batgirl team-up. At that time like a lot of kids I was very interested in the elements and the periodic table, so Metamorpho #14 intrigued me. I also loved the emerald green- haired Element Girl (she's not shown on this cover, unfortunately). She quickly became a favorite character of mine. And last but not at all least, Adventure #360, which concluded the story started in #359. Again, superlative Swan-Klein art; and a story that showcased the Legion Espionage Squad.

This was a prime acquistion! Another favorite, the first and only one of this title I saw until its final issue came out. I was two months away from diving deep into comics, when I was able to start buying almost everything I wanted because in two months I'd be starting high school in a neighborhood with two stores that stocked virtually every DC and Marvel comic!

This was a prime acquistion! That cover--oh man, who could resist it??? I bought this comic as a back issue about a year or two after its publication, from the collectibles store on my block.

What was it about this issue that made it special to you guys? I was still too young in the summer of 1967 to be buying comics but we are getting to the time where I can recognise a few covers that must have caught my eye on the stands and that my parents bought for me. Nothing this month, though.

To me, the cover just screams everything that Marvel was in the Silver Age.
All the blurbs," King Sized Special!", "Not a single reprint!", "BONUS!" and so on. Amazing that they were able to get the number and the comic code in there somewhere!
The stories are fantastic too. This one ticks all the boxes for me.

I saw Avengers Annual #1 in the house ads (was able to buy it much later on as mentioned). At the time I was watching the Marvel Superheroes cartoons so I was familiar with Cap, Iron Man and Thor, but who were these others? They just looked so cool to me. Great cover.
