IDW has 2 new Disney goodies for us fans to enjoy for the holidays!
Donald Quest #1 (of 5)—SPOTLIGHT
Stefano Ambrosio, Pat McGreal (w) • Andrea Freccero (a & c)
“Hammer of Magic!” A wild new Disney miniseries starts here! In the steampunk warrior world of Feudarnia, only the Magnus Malleus can save humanity from marauding Meteorbeasts! It’s an epic weapon for an epic hero... so why is it up to Donald Duck to grab it before Magica De Spell, the Beagle Boys, and the Phantom Blot get there first?
FC • 40 pages • $3.99
Disney Mysterious Melodies OGN—SPOTLIGHT
Bernard Cosey (w & a & c)
What was life like for Mickey before 1928... before Hollywood stardom struck? In this riveting, phantasmagorical “what-if” tale, we follow the Mouse from his humble origins—as Oswald Rabbit’s screenwriter!—through a tangled web of trains, rocket ships, and stolen Shakespeare scripts! Will a haunting tune bring Mickey and Minnie together for the first time? Will Goofy find success as a... ferryboat driver? Or will big boss Mr. Casey and relentless Pegleg Pete strike again? Award-winning Swiss cartoonist Bernard Cosey (Lost in the Alps) brings us an amazing Mouse adventure with a thoughtful, emotive twist.
HC • FC • $14.99 • 64 pages • 9.25” x 12” • ISBN: 978-1-63140-777-2
Celebrated French writer/artist Bernard Cosey presents a riveting, fascinating Mickey adventure in the Floyd Gottfredson tradition!
Jump on for the second in IDW’s new series of European Mickey graphic novels—featuring cinematic storytelling and modern Disney art like you’ve never seen!
Advance solicited for December release!

So it looks like the classic Disney brand isn't strong enough for IDW financially. Out of the 4 monthly comics they produce currently, only Uncle Scrooge will remain. Donald Duck and Mickey Mouse are cancelled to be combined into a single 48 page quarterly titled Donald and Mickey. Walt Disney Comics and Stories will also become a quarterly 48 pager. Besides Uncle Scrooge as the remaining monthly comic IDW is adding Disney Showcase as a 32 page comic which will highlight a different Disney character eevery month. Also coming in July will be a new monthly Duck Tales to coincide with the new cartoon series along with a Tangled monthly and Star Wars Adventures.
It is kind of sad that the "classic" style Disney comics aren't selling well enough but at least IDW is trying to keep an All Ages Friendly line going with newer Disney comics. With so much European produced Disney comics out there for reprinting i hope that the new quarterly format will allow IDW to continue with their focus upon getting more of the stories collected and printed for the American readers.
