Roquefort Raider, what's interesting to me is that no one has come to Owens' defense by calling these folks "racist" or "sexist" or "misogynistic", even though they were harassing an African-American woman in public with no provocation. I mean, every time someone says something negative about an African-American, male or female, they're labeled a racist, unless that African-American is conservative and then it's written off as "justified". Same with criticizing a woman of any race, unless they're conservative, and then they are "getting what they deserve". Criticize Hilary Clinton? Sexist. Criticize Maxine Waters? Racist and sexist. Criticize Sarah Palin, Sarah Sanders, Ivanka Trump, Candace Owens? Crickets...

I've definitely heard/read people calling Huckabee-Sanders and Ivanka some pretty extreme names based on their simply being female, been awhile but for Palin too, plus all the ridiculing variations on the Trump name. I don't even refer to Donald Trump by anything other than Trump. I will admit guilt at calling Rush Limbaugh Rush Limpdick and Michael Moore Michael Moron though. I guess Limbaugh and Moore are entertainers, so if Trump were still just an entertainer maybe I'd have something to call him, I just never watched an Apprentice or whatever else he was doing other than an SNL appearance I guess. Leonardo Decapitated and Sandra Bollocks are a couple of my others, no idea why, I don't hate their acting at all, just get so much celebrity 'news' sometimes (and every local news show seems to include movie reviews these days), guess I'm a reactionary there.

I've enjoyed playing some of those 'Mad Magazine'-style parody name games with celebrities: A certain former actress/talk-show host-turned conspiracy theorist has been 'Rosie O'Dumbass' to me for years. There are enough unflattering things that rhyme with 'Trump', to make the actual name suffice..it just sort of...'plops' and sits there...Tweeting...'TRUMP"!

I mean, every time someone says something negative about an African-American, male or female, they're labeled a racist, unless that African-American is conservative and then it's written off as "justified". Often true. but there's other options as well. I keep thinking of the recent bad joke Trevor Noah did about the french world-cup winning team, when he celebrated them as african, because the majority of hte team is colored Lots of people were quick to label the joke (and him?) as racist, left and right, when it obviously wasn't the case. It wasn't racist, it was just lame : how many times do you think they heard before that? True, they probably often heard it a thousand times before, but with actual racist meaning. Where it got truly bizarre is that when called out, he had the weirdest defense : he claimed he made the joke to highlight the hipocrisy of the french officials who deem french colored when they are heroes, and illegals when they are not... well... heroes... That may be very true, and not just in France, but the issue is that this was not the criticism he got from the french : the first ones who expressed real offence were the french NBA players, all blacks... What this highlighted was very interesting in my opinion, in understanding the deep cultural differencies in countries such as France where nationality comes by birtright, nationality is more important than cultural identity, as it is in the US, where everyone mostly define themselves by their cultural origin/identity (afro-american, latino, irish, italo-american, gay, christian, etc). This made me realize more than ever that this is a very americno-american paradigm, and probably a source of much tension. I'm not saying that France doesn't have related issues, but at least, their minorities fully embrace their french common history, in good and bad. So when Trump gets almost instantly labeled racist when he attacks Watters, Lemon and James for their low IQ, it most probably is grounded in some kind of vague lazy racism (he can't ignore that the trope exists!), but I guess that theattack in itself suffices to criticize his statements : he is the president and shouldn't attack citizens unless they commited a crime. I must say though, that I recently heard Howard Stern saying many unkind things about Jamie Foxx, about his character, and I saw no backlash about him being racist for htat. But maybe that is because people hate Foxx, or because Stern is jewish, so you couldn't attack hm either?

Don't forget the winner of all this petty gender-ire : Hillary Clinton. I dont think anyone gets close to the amount of manure she's gotten for the past 25 years (publicly), simply for being a woman. I've definitively heard nasty things about H-Sanders as well, stuff that would never work if she was a man. Less so for Ivanka T and Palin though, as better looks usually gets you the not more glorious pass. They mostly get manure because of their hypocrisy or ignorance. There's also this supposedly feminist woman Tucker Carlson keeps inviting. I swear to god, I won't be surprised when she is outed as an actress or at the very least cinycal paid scarecrow, as she constantly spews the most insane and parodical leftist views, to the point that it feels like bad satire. I kind of chuckles for Rudy Ghouliani though

I think you're not far off from a lot of political extremist trolls online basically, so can't imagine any point in communicating. I don't know if you are in Russia or what your connection is to the place to defend it at such lengths, I'll admit I am no expert, but I'm with Canada and the U.S. and I'm not buying. Sorry but that one doesn't sit well. So far, you've made numerous claims that were completely false (Russia has only one party, Putin was head of the KGB, was a member of the communist party and a high ranking one, the pravda newspaper is the official voice of Putin and his party, Russia has almost no trade with anyone but countries such as Iran, De Gaulle was responsible for horrible things during the Indochine war (despite the fact he wsn't there and not in the governement...), etc...). Some of them you walked back after you realized after googling that what I said was true, some you haven't adressed. And I'm not even talking about the fact that Putin and his party are not communist, because, I understand where you're thinking gets IMO Skewed (Putin is evil, the soviet communist party is evil, they are both from Russia, therefore Putin is a communist, or something along those lines). But never once did I assume you were lying, I always gave you the benefit of doubt and believed you were only mistaken on specific facts. But somehow, even if on those specific facts, I wasn't wrong at all, that means I'm supporting Russia AND am a troll?! While you were the one making all those factually untrue claims? Wow There were lots of points that fall into the matter of opinions and subjectivity, and those I fully accept debate on, and don't look for excuses to avoid risking being wrong. Being wrong is part of the process of learning, as long as you aknowledge it. I didn't attempt to riddicule your opinions and didn't insult you. Stating facts about communist history that you got wrong isn't selling you communism. I don't know why you're doing that, but please stop painting me in that dishonest fashion, I'm sure you're better than that, as you more than often prove here on the boards.

Autocratic moderator time:
If the Politics thread is to remain open, we must all agree to keep our arguments factual. No calling each other names, no assignment of evil intentions, no comment on each other's character. This subject is very prone to degenerate into shouting matches, but the rules of the board apply here as much as everywhere else.
If that is not possible, the thread will be locked... as many posters have requested it be, over the years.
I would personally find that unfortunate, because I am convinced we can have serious discussions about politics while respecting each other. I would be very grateful to be proven right.
Thank you all for your attention!

“The bombs never fell. They didn’t have to. Russia’s pact with Japan, Africa and South America kept her fat and cozy. To America half the world was closed. Her few remaining friends bled the frightened giant dry, while her spoiled children ate well. As ever, America pretended it wasn’t happening. She wanted more and found the cupboards bare.”
-Timothy Truman (Scout #1, September 1985)
Chillingly prophetic opening paragraph of Scout #1.
