It does not hurt me to row. It hurts, occasionally, afterwards. It is an inconsistent pain. ibuprofen takes care of it almost immediately. Psoas pain is common for a lot of people beginning workouts. Just be careful. I have a tendency to take my discipline to the extreme when I try to get healthy (as I suspect you may be doing here), and the very reason I'm focusing on diet over exercise is precisely because I end up hurting myself every time I try to get into serious exercise regiments. Every time. I just keep pushing myself out of fear that if I don't push my hardest, I'll never see any results, but then I hurt myself so badly that I have to take extended breaks from exercise, and then it just all falls apart anyway. Point being, if there's any possibility that you're pushing too hard too fast, consider slowing down just so that you can keep it going for the long run. We all want you to see BIG results, but none of us wants to see you damage yourself. Aww, thank you. The thing is, I KNOW results take time. I am not in a rush to see results. You know how much time I do on the rower? 8 minutes and 37 seconds was my time today. I do about another 8 minutes on the Gazelle. That IS taking it slow. What I am going to do is cut the Gazelle out tomorrow and possibly the next day to see if the pain is coming from that.

As far as something like BBQ chicken craving, I find that eating baked chicken with salsa or picante sauce cures me of that craving.

Day 10
My starting weight: 265 lbs My ideal weight for my height: 185 lbs My goal: 220 lbs by August (15 lbs per month for three months)
Today's weigh in: 255 lbs (-3 lbs from yesterday; -10 lbs overall)
The bad news is that I had a rough night of sleep again, especially when I woke up to eliminate most of the remainder of what I'd been digesting for the past two days, but I think we're back to normal now.
Honestly, I don't regret going off-diet. I think this was an important learning experience for me that, when I choose to do that, it comes with consequences, but that I can push through them and get back to where I was. I really enjoyed having a full day of not worrying about the diet at all and placing no restrictions on myself. Hopefully, next time, I'll just want a little less of the bad stuff.
My plan for today:
Breakfast: 1 serving of all-natural vanilla yogurt. Multivitamin and Calcium/Magnesium supplement
Lunch: My homemade stew, now with twice the spinach and half the salt (garlic, onion, yellow pepper, spinach, tomato paste, cayenne pepper, black pepper, salt, ex virgin olive oil). Organic, choc full of nutrients, vegan, low carb, and low fat.
Throughout the day snack: Half a serving of dry Frosted Mini-Wheats (for iron and fiber)
Dinner: Two Foreman-grilled chicken breasts marinated in no more than two tablespoons of soy sauce, and with cumin to taste.
Other snacks (if needed): raw unsalted cashews, baby carrots, sliced pineapple

Okay. I'm jumping in.
Day 1
5-27-15
My starting weight: 218 lbs My goal: 180 lbs
Today's weigh in:218
Plan- I am going to do the Paleo diet which is protein, fruit and vegetables. This has worked for me before but with only fish salad and water. The main component is not to eat bread or sugar. This time around I intend to have bread every 5 days just to keep my energy level up. Part of my plan includes not eating after 7pm. as for exercise, I walk about 5 hours a day in my job as a Mailman but I intend to supplement it with weights and more intense aerobics about 2-3 times a week. I have a gym and I am going to start riding my bike.

Awesome and good luck!
I think I am going to give today a rest on exercising. It frustrates the hell out of me to have to, but I haven't taken a day off from exercising in over 2 weeks. My psoas is telling me it's a good idea, though. But I'm stubborn as Hell, and I'm NOT HAPPY ABOUT HAVING TO TAKE TODAY OFF.

Yikes! You have to take days off from exercise. That's how your body repairs itself and gets stronger. The muscle will only grow when it's at rest.

And when my mind gets set on something, I can get pretty pissy when I'm told to slow down, rest, or stop. But taking today off will be good for me. My body needs it. I have a busy life and work a lot. I actually took the day off from work yesterday, so today I need to rest from exercising.

I've been waiting for you, bud Best of luck today!!! Awesome and good luck! I think I am going to give today a rest on exercising. Exercising every day without taking days to recuperate is similar in some respects to starving oneself instead of dieting. It causes the body so much trauma that it can actually be worse than doing nothing at all.

But I am still not happy about having to take today off. *grumble* I know it's best to let my body rest, though. But I don't have to like it.

You could try exercising different muscle groups on different days. Like legs on Sundays, arms on Mondays, legs on Tuesdays, etc. That way you're still getting in some exercise but also giving your muscles time to rest.
Not sure how that would work with a rowing machine though.

I've been told by both men and women in much better shape than me that squats, deadlifts, and lunges are the key to a flat stomach. The thigh muscle is the largest muscle in the body, and when you bulk that muscle up it will make your whole body burn fat at an accelerated rate. I don't know why this is, but people with strong legs are naturally muscular everywhere else too. I know a guy who only deadlifts but his arms and chest look like he works them out as well. I also know a guy who runs marathons, and doesn't lift weights at all, and he looks almost like a bodybuilder. But he runs an insane, inhuman distance and pace every day. Anyway, squats and lunges are exercises you could start with bodyweight and run that for several weeks before you'd get the urge to add weight to it.

I think it is the Gazelle hurting my psoas muscle because of the motion made while using it. But I will find out. it just makes more sense because my hips are stable when using the rowing machine. They work together and at the same Time. The Gazelle is a gliding motion Where my hips are moving, separately.
I am skipping the gazelle again tomorrow, and using the rowing machine.

Day 10 in reflection:
Successes: No issues today. Did fine.
Struggles: My dinner, the meal I spend much of the day looking toward, has been disappointing as of late. The place I usually get my chicken was out of breasts, so I bought them somewhere else, and I swear the texture and taste are all wrong. I usually buy organic; these things are absurdly plump (making it harder to cook them right) and have an added flavor of some kind to them that almost sickens me. It wasn't just the BBQ, after all. I am NOT enjoying this. Need to get back to the regular stuff tomorrow.
Failures/cheats: Nothing. Actually, for the second day in a row, I didn't eat my raw cashew snack, keeping my nutrition levels where they need to be, but clocking in at under 1400 calories for the day. I'm not doing it to starve myself, mind you. I just don't feel like I need them, so why add the calories and fat?
All in all: A+ for effort, C for enjoyment.

Hey, good for you! If you can cut back the snack and not feel hungry, all the better! Oh, I feel hungry. I feel hungry all the time. But I'm in control of it these days, rather than the reverse. I can keep it in the background and not let it bother me.
