Well, I guess if there's any bright side to emotionally crippling devastation, it's that it really does wonders for your dieting. I haven't had any appetite at all for days and have been forcing myself to eat even the small amount I've managed to choke down. As a result I've lost 5 pounds this week, instead of my usual 2. All in all, though, I'd rather have not.

I'm sorry that it didn't work out with your friend but , shake it off and go get a good one. You can do it.

Tuesday 7-21-15
My starting weight: 218 My goal: 180 lbs weight 7 days ago 207 Today's weigh in: 205 (-2 ) Total Weight Loss ( -13)
Review of the day:
I’m a little annoyed that I stayed the same as yesterday. My eating was clean for the most part , but i’m holding at 205. I didn’t work in any cardio because I worked in the heat all day long and was wiped afterwards. I have to do some cardio today to break past 205, which has been the low mark in my weight loss. Tomorrow will make 8 weeks on the diet ( minus a week of vacation where I ate more) and I have 13 pounds loss to show for it.

Keep in mind both that exercise may be adding some muscle weight to your body and also that maintaining a 13 lb loss is, itself, something to be darn proud of. Many people lose like crazy and then gain it all back soon after. If you've been holding at this weight for this many weeks, chances are you've fallen into some healthier habits and that you will be less likely to gain much back. I still have confidence that you can lose more if you totally commit to it, but even if you don't, you have accomplished a LOT, and that shouldn't be dismissed.

Day 64
Today's weigh-in: 243 lbs (+0.5)
22 lbs down / 43 to go
Considering that I am not on the diet at all right now, I'm really pleased that I'm holding around the 243 lb mark. I remember my recent wish here being that 245 would be my new ceiling; no matter how bad, I'd never go above it again. I appear to have gotten that wish.
Until my mother is out of the hospital and in the clear, I doubt I'll be dieting seriously again. I try to make some healthy choices during the day, but food is comfort I'm not willing to deprive myself of right now, so I eat what I want when I want it. Fortunately, what I want tends to be better for me than what I wanted two months ago.

First consecutive days cycling since I re-started (yesterday and today), and felt surprisingly OK - a little lacking in power at points on the way home today, but overall pretty good. Was 206.4 this morning, hoping to dip under Milestone One tomorrow and get sub 206.

BOOM! That's the sound of milestone one being blown to pieces! WHOOSH! That's the sound of my end of month target being flown by. After sneakily weighing myself last night when I got off my bike, I knew I was in for a good weight this morning, and sure enough.... 204.4Cue the happy dance! Must admit, the maths doesn't add up for me though. Normal rule of thumb is 3500 calories = 1 lb loss or gain. My eating limit should equate to 1lb / week, so that about a 500 cal per day deficit. Last few cycle rides are adding about 800 per day to that, so I should be losing at about 1 lb over the eating-only rate, but it seems to be coming off faster than that. Next soft target is 200, in I guess about 2-3 weeks. Next big milestone is 192 (2 stones or 28 lbs loss). Got a holiday coming up soon, so that second milestone is going to be late September at the earliest.

Awesome news Simon Garth!
Riding your bike also has the benefit of letting you sweat out all the excess water your body might be holding onto. But you'll know that you really are 204.4 if that number shows up tomorrow.
Well done.

Wednesday 7-22-15
My starting weight: 218 My goal: 180 lbs weight 7 days ago 207 Today's weigh in: 204 (-3 ) Total Weight Loss ( -14)
Review of the day:
My eating was clean and there was no late night bad eating so I’m happy to finally pass the 205 mark and reach my low of 204 today. This afternoon I’m starting a road trip which will turn into an overnight trip to upstate New York, so I’m anticipating some off diet eating. I will attempt to not stray too far. There is also a BBQ at my house saturday so I have to do my best to fit running and biking into my next few days.

All in all, though, I'd rather have not. So sorry for the cause, but happy for the effect As I noted in the "Meanwhile ..." thread, I don't know how much I've lost in the month (as of today ... time does have a tendency to fly) since my surgery, but it must be fairly substantial. I'm wearing a shirt that I've always found a bit too confining before (I prefer my shirts quite loose, admittedly -- most people probably wouldn't have had a problem with the fit). Still haven't recovered my appetite, to the point that one small meal a day is more than enough, & as it happens yesterday evening I went back on the antibiotic that screwed up my sense of taste when I took it for 10 days beginning during my hospital stay, so that's not likely to change much. Of course, just as those of us melting right now in the Deep South heat will look back on this period longingly come January or so, probably in a couple of months I'll regard this period of limited consumption nostalgically. But maybe it'll continue serving as a wakeup call instead.

No weigh in today because I'm on the road in upstate NY. But since 1pm yesterday I only had 2 glasses of wine and 3 French fries.

Wednesday 7-22-15 Total Weight Loss ( -14)
I’m happy to finally pass the 205 mark and reach my low of 204 today. Congratulations on that IC (icc? icct? Mr Trombone?). I hereby anoint you as an honorary Brit* for the day, and you have therefore just hit a landmark of having lost a whole stone in weight. (* the demands are not particularly onerous. Just add a "u" to most words and learn to partly-use the metric system. Fortunately, the tea drinking is now optional)

Back on the bike again today, pleased (and somewhat surprised) to beat my best time for the year, and only be 40s off my best time ever (which, in fairness, just shows that I didn't get very quick the last time I was riding regularly, rather than being particularly quick this time). SG, king of the (parenthetical) aside. And cycling, obviously
