After 16 days on a beautiful Greek island, it's time to face the music. Remember this: Last working day before holiday, so I'm signing off from the thread for a couple of weeks - today's weight is 194.6 (25.4 down from peak, probably something like that away from optimum). Will be happy to come back from holiday below 200, and ecstatic to be below 196 - but I'm not holding my breath for either. On the bright side, "Greece and chocolate" don't really mix because of the heat, so my main source of additional calories will be largely off the agenda; unfortunately, "Greece and Ice cream" and "Holiday and cold lager" go together really well... So, got back at 4am, it's now 0840 after 3 hours of crappy sleep, and today's weigh in says (cue roll of drums.....)
191.8
It's official! I've lost 2.8 pounds over the course of the holiday, breaking through my 194 lbs milestone, to rest at 13stones 9.8 lbs, 2 stones and 0.2 pounds (28.2 pounds) down from my start point, 3 months and about 10 days ago. That's a big, big woohoo, from me! Very, very pleased with that - eschewed most of the ice cream and beer on the holiday so pleased it wasn't to waste. Off to get my bike back once the shop opens in a few minutes. You're the only person in the History of the world to LOSE weight while on vacation. AWESOME !

Yesterday, I swam a half-mile and today I just walked the track and decided to take the next two days off working on other things and resume swimming on Thursday.

Starting weight: 243.2 Week One weight: 241.6 Week Two weight: 239.4 Week Three weight: 237.0 Week Four weight: 234.4 Week Five weight: 234.0 Week Six weight: 231.6 Week Seven weight: 231.0 Week Eight weight: 228.2 Week Nine weight: 223.4 Week Ten weight: 223.8 Week Eleven weight: 223.0 Week Twelve weight: ? Week Thirteen weight: ? Week Fourteen weight: 219.4 Week Fifteen weight: ? Week Sixteen weight: 218.2 Week Seventeen weight: 217.4 Week Eighteen weight: 216.4
Going slowly, but still going, which is the important thing. I'm going on vacation in three weeks and really wanted to hit 210 before I leave, but I don't think that's going to happen. Still, as long as the numbers get smaller, that's all that matters.

Good weekend for me. I've noticed countless times over the past two days that my body REALLY looks different this week, and, when I took my kids to the park today, I found myself with more energy than I can recall ever having. I'm beginning to think my wife was right about the lack of weight loss over the past three weeks being caused by my body realigning itself. But, even if that's not what's going on, I am very much convinced for the first time that I DID make a ton of progress this week, even if it wasn't reflected on the scale. Wow. Was just looking back at an image of me taken 2 weeks ago (1 week into the 230 lb plateau), and I look HUGE compared to now. I have definitely made progress that hasn't shown on the scale. Just today, I couldn't believe how my work clothes were fitting me! Hoping to see this reflected on the scale this week, but even if not, I know I'm moving in the right direction.

Just got back from taking the dog for her walk. I am exhausted and it's been a really, really rough day (my cheat was TWO diet colas tho. . . .so I was able to control it even tho stressed, and I DID buy Cheescake Icecream at the store, along with the black cherry frozen yogurt).. . but haven't eaten any of it yet. anyways, she needs a walk, which she hasn't had in a week since I was sick. And she's a big dog (who's blind), so she basically trots the whole way and I have to walk fast to keep up. . so 20 minutes of exercise for me! win/win I suppose

Measure-up time for September. All changes are from 2nd August when I first measured, rather than mid-June when I started, so I had already lost 18 pounds from my peak weight by that time.
Waist 36.75", down 4.25" from 41 Neck 16.25", down 1.25" from 17.5 Hips 39.25", dragging their feet (or my ass, to be precise) but down 1.75" from 41
The clothes I've been wearing for the last couple of years are now noticeably very baggy - my waist is now comfortably inside the waistband of my 36" waist trousers (which have admittedly been stretched by 2 years over overweight), instead of being that large mass hanging over the top, and my belts have run out of notches.
I'm going to retire the current set of trousers and re-activate the next set of smaller size (still 36" waist, but no stretching or expandable waist-bands), that I bought either before I gained weight the last time (fashion just bypasses me completely, so I don't really care about the age) or that I bought when I dropped weight last time and before I ballooned at the end of last year. It will be a simple ceremony, no band or gun salute.
This time, I don't intend to return to the fat-pants a few months later, and I certainly don't intend to buy more after re-gaining the weight. And I most certainly didn't say anything at all like that last time [ insert blushing emoticon here ]

Day 127
Today's weigh-in: 230 lbs (-2.5 lbs, back to all time low)
35 lbs down / 50 to go
Wow. Back to 230 already? I've never done that in a single day before. Maybe, after three weeks, I'm FINALLY going to drop below 230...
I took my measurements for the first time. Waist is 46" this morning. Chest is 43.5"

Day 128
Today's weigh-in: 230 lbs (same as yesterday, same as always)
35 lbs down / 50 to go
Welcome to week 4 of being stuck at 230 lbs. Last night, when I got home from work, I was 230 lbs already, which is unheard of for me at that point in the day, when I have food and fluids in me. I was positive that meant I'd finally break this curse this morning. But, after my salad and yogurt dinner last night, I was feeling this hunger that ran deep to my core. Not the kind of hunger you feel when you want to cheat, so you then go and pig out, but a hunger like my body wasn't getting something it really needed. One of the things my wife had read when looking up the weight plateau I'm stuck on is that it can be caused by not eating enough and/or getting enough nutrients, so I decided to listen to my body and made the healthiest most satisfying thing I could think of that wasn't what I normally allow myself -- two eggs and a piece of cheese scrambled on white bread. It felt great, and unlike when I cheat on the diet, there was absolutely no craving to keep eating after. I felt right.
But now I'm still 230 lbs the next morning.
Tonight I'm going to see one of my best friends before he moves to the other side of the country. We'll be going out for dinner. Of course I'm going to eat with him. And Friday we go out of town for my brother in law's wedding, so I guess there goes my chances to lose any weight again this week.
Just trying to remind myself that I really do look and feel better, because otherwise this whole thing is bullsh*t. Stick to the diet PERFECTLY -- no weight loss. Allow yourself to go off diet intelligently because research says that might be the problem -- no weight loss. And either way, I end up feeling like I did something wrong.

Day 128
Today's weigh-in: 229 lbs (-1 from yesterday, new all-time low!)
36 lbs down / 49 to go
So right after writing the post above and feeling sorry for myself, I went downstairs to get ready for the day and, suddenly, out of nowhere, I had to go to the bathroom again...bad.
And now I'm 229 lbs. How frickin' weird.
I still have the dilemma of meeting my buddy for dinner tonight who is moving to Arizona next week. Pretty much going to have to break diet and do so late in the evening. I will most likely lose this elusive 229 as quickly as I got it. Not happy about that, but friends come first.

Went back to weigh myself again after posting, just to prove to myself that I hadn't been dreaming, and I'm 230 again. Understand that I weigh myself like six times before deciding for sure what my weight is.
And I'm 230 again.
Sorry to bother you guys with three posts this morning. I don't think you know what I've been doing to myself over this plateau thing for the past three weeks. I've been trying so damn hard, eating an impossibly small amount of healthy stuff, and I can't get it reflected on the scale.
It's killing me.

I know you're disappointed , but a plateau is what happens after great success. It will help if you start to log what you eat everyday and make some changes. Maybe add a walk after dinner and More water.

Ok. . 1st "official" weigh in: 9/20: 244.8# hmm. .I managed to lose 3 lbs since the Dr. visit? Possible I guess, from all that walking at Dragon*con, and then being sick and just not eating much. let's see if I can keep it up. Next weigh in on Wed. 2nd weigh in, and despite being "good" all week, and getting some good exercise: 9/23: 244.8# On the one hand, it's not any GAIN, which is good. .but I've actually been trying, so a bit of a disappointment to be EXACTLY the same as I was 3 days ago . . I was hoping for at least .02 difference. Oh well. . at least I'm dedicated to trying, so let's give this a few weeks and see how it goes.

I think you hit it on the head, that you aren't eating enough, and so your metabolism has slowed down a little bit. but hey, even glacially slow progress is STILL progress. and you haven't gained, so wear that 230 proudly, and just keep trying. By the way, I've found that eggs are fantastic weight loss "tricks". . hard boil a 1/2 dozen and keep in the fridge. . when you get a craving, peel and eat. SUPER healthy, and not a lot fat or calories

It will help if you start to log what you eat everyday Simple. Every day, I eat: Breakfast: a few nibbles of my lunch until I'm not hungry anymore Lunch: A salad consisting of raw organic spinach, two strips of turkey bacon, two diced egg whites, , 1/3rd of a red onion, and one diced chicken breast grilled in its own juices. Half a container of non-fat yogurt covered in honey nut cheerios. Dinner: Repeat I'm going to do a full nutritional breakdown on what I'm eating tonight so that I can determine if there's anything that's too high or too low, but in terms of calories, fat, carbs, and salt, everything I'm consuming is extremely sensible. More water is a good idea. I've been drinking a lot more green tea, but you sip that slowly, so I might actually be taking in less liquid. Finding time to exercise though, that's the hard part. There just isn't any time in my day.
