I likely could be dropping more if I were doing some exercise other than my nightly walk with the dog.. but fitting in time is just so tough. But at least I've succeeded in changing some eating habits: I'm in the same boat, but I started planking a few weeks back (90 seconds twice a day, though you may need to start lower), and that has boosted my weight loss, waist loss, and energy, plus all that work on my abs has curbed my hunger quite a bit. what do you mean by "planking"?

Do this and just hold the pose for 90 seconds. It works your arms, chest, back, and especially your abs. In case the image is unclear, his toes are pressed to the ground; he is not doing this off of a wall.

Yep - it's really a core exercise; there are variants involving straight arms (harder), legs on suspension straps (harder), rotating to the side ie one arm and one leg (harder!), side in star shape (harder!)
Work to arms and chest is pretty minimal to be honest, as mostly you're just taking your weight on elbows or hands - there is a bit to keep the arms steady, but it will work your core - ie abs and lower back and in some variants the sides as well. Basically, you're putting strain on those muscles to hold your body in a rigid line, rather than the traditional sit-ups / crunches that contract the abs.

I find it far easier to do mentally, since all you have to do is NOT get up. And there's less risk to injury so long as you have the one basic pose right since there's no movement involved.

Blew my diet tonight. For some reason, this week has been far harder than usual, and I just couldn't take it tonight. My dinner was an hour away and just didn't seem at all like the solution to the tremendous hunger and withdrawal I was feeling.
Seems like there's a 225 lb wall too.
And I'm not so worried about that. I met a wall at 230 and (eventually) beat it. I know, with time, I'll beat this too. And hey, if I can keep showing myself that I can go crazily, irresponsibly off diet and still come back strong each time, then that makes it a little more likely I'll be able to come back after Christmas (my biggest fear right now). If I can keep this thing going for the long run (and I'm already five months in), keeping it comfortable and sustainable, then I count that as a win.
So I'm not going to beat myself up tonight. I am, however, going to finish what I started and get back on diet tomorrow. I don't go off diet until Fridays.

4 milestones* this morning: - Tiniest possible improvement on weight, takes me to 185.2, a new low, but still not through the door at #35. OK, right direction, but no fireworks
- Neck down to 15.75", a massive 0.25" in the last 3 weeks, but 1.75" from the start. No big woop on that one, to be honest.
- Hips down to 38.5", another small improvement of 0.5" from last time, 2.5" from the start. Still no big woops - my ass seems pretty reluctant to downsize - I'm thinking it's massive glute muscles rather than lard...
- Waist measurement.... OMG! 34.5", a whole inch down on last time, and 6.5" down from my starting point. I think I may essay a happy dance for that one...
(* well, not really milestones, as such, more notable new lows. Though I'm going to claim the waist one, going through 35" for the first time in at least 3 years, as a real milestone, dagnabbit)

Day 161Today's weigh-in: 230 lbs (+5 lbs from yesterday, +6 from all-time low) And that, ladies and gentlemen, is what salt and water retention can do for you. Seriously, I didn't even cheat THAT badly last night, but I had food with a lot of salt in it and noticed myself drinking a lot more water that (ahem) didn't come back out. Not sure I can be back down to 225 by tomorrow, but I'll sure try.

I am not sure if this is helpful or healthy, but I attribute much of my weight loss (215 to 160 in about 7 months) to drinking massive amounts of coffee. I am a caffeine junkie and even though I reduced my calorie consumption, I still eat sweets and pig out once or twice a week and have managed to keep my weight off for over a year.

Blew my diet again last night. My body just didn't want to do it anymore this week. However, I weighed in that afternoon and was back to 226. It really was all salt, water retention, and undigested food. So I did no harm this week, even while I made no gains. I'm ok with that.

Two pretty harsh cycle rides: - Last night, was supposed to be a dash home before the rain got here, turned out to be a dash through the rain with very poor visibility due to soaked glasses (normally wear contacts in the rain). An added frisson of excitement added by a car stopping dead in front of me, leading to me locking up the brakes and skidding sideways; somewhat to my amazement, I managed to both avoid the car and avoid dropping the bike (and me) in the road, so big up for my mad bike skillz (just wish I knew exactly how I did it!)
- This morning was a miserable grind through 30mph headwind and lashing rain, also enlivened by a couple of skids where the rear wheel did it's own thing over ironworks
However, between those two rides, things were slightly different. They say a picture says a thousand words, so... Or, to quote another celebrity.... (184.4, for the record => 35.6lbs down)

Please do take care, SG! A great body is no use to you in a morgue. You have a plan for winter weather; it sounds like it's time to shift to that plan.
Congrats on your progress, but please please please be safe.

It's not really winter here yet - forecast for the next couple of weeks isn't too bad. You are right of course - I do (and will) need to match the enthusiasm with self-preservation, but hopefully the bad weather is still a while away: the last couple of years, November and December have been fairly mild & dry*
(* ... aaaaand cue the ice age)
