mrp, you are the Skyfather and all seeing Odin of the CCF! But here's just one thing that might lay to rest you expert observation from the cosmos... -If you don't think the cover fits the theme, don't vote for it; don't post disparaging remarks about it.The smiley was there to show I was joking and adding to the joke of it being too challenging, icc, I wasn't complaining about the entries-I said if you want to make it really challenging, not complaining that the covers shouldn't count. -M I know , I was complimenting you on that catch . That's why I added Hee ,Hee at the end.

I've had that stupid Sheena Easton song stuck in my brain ever since this thread started - thanks! (Actually it isn't the worst Bond theme song and I don't really hate it - but I don't like it much either.)
All those western covers along similar lines make me wonder if that's where the inspiration for the Bond poster came from in the first place. It seems tailor-made for a western-style gunslingers showdown.

It seems tailor-made for a western-style gunslingers showdown. Yup...sounds likely. The dramatic, between-the-legs-showdown stance camera angle/POV is not uncommon in western movies, and would seem to be a natural to use on promotional materials, covers of western novels/pulps, etc. I can't find any verification but I think this is a poster that was used when High Noon was was released (1952) and not something that was created years later (for example as a cover of a DVD edition).

From the previous year, we have "Drip-Along Daffy," a Warner Bros. offering that uses the same shot to great comedic effect.

Cool! From the previous year, we have "Drip-Along Daffy," a Warner Bros. offering that uses the same shot to great comedic effect. Ha! That's great, PM--thanks (and I just viewed the cartoon itself on YouTube). Some have said that the FYEO James Bond poster may have also been influenced by an earlier movie poster for "The Silencers"(Dean Martin Matt Helm film from 1966). For those who may be interested, the poster is included in the Wikipedia entry for The Silencers/film. The caption describes it as an "Australian film poster", so I don't know if it was used outside of Australia.

Is it just me, or does Sue seem really interested in Namor's butt in that cover? Suggested clichéd caption: How can something so big - move so fast?or: "Oh My, Namor. . what is that THING between your legs?"

Suggested clichéd caption: How can something so big - move so fast?or: "Oh My, Namor. . what is that THING between your legs?" So between Namor's legs, we have a rock-hard thing, someone whose power is to stretch real long and a flaming man. At some point, it stops being subtext.

At some point, it stops being subtext. I was trying to think of a way to work in a "great balls of fire" joke, but there's only one Torch, unfortunately. All joking aside, I always think they should make more of Namor's costume, or lack thereof. He's sort of the male equivalent of all those revealing female superheroine costumes, and time is right that some female characters - and I suppose a few males as well - should express their admiration. And of course Namor himself is oblivious, or rather cool with it because as a proud and mighty king he takes it for granted that the lowly commoners will stare and admire the magnificence.
