Hi! My name is lindario (not really)! I'm a long time fan of literature, comics, history, popular culture and, to some extent , Star Wars.
Here in this thread I present to you my latest effort in which I took the role of a Biblical scholar. Just instead of chronologically constructing the Bible, my goal was to create a definitive presentation of Star Wars in a comic book form. The range of stories that I included is massive and their date of publication ranges from 2014 all the the way to Anno Domini 1977. Together those stories cover an adventure which spans multiple decades and is filled with loss, tragedy, love, humour, idealistic adventurers, deceptive villains, battles of epic proportions, philosophical teachings, acts of heroism as well as moments of deep darkness.
Briefly about the project and its birth. When I first heard that all six films were coming back to theatres in 3D, I started celibacy on the films so that I could experience them as if they were new. The 3D re-releases were eventually cancelled in favor of an altogether new Star Wars episode which we'll know today as The Force Awakens. My celibacy, however, continued up until last February when I watched all the six episodes during a time span of one week. For shits and giggles, I thought about fleshening the story experience by reading my old Star Wars comics between the movies. I ultimately didn't do that, but the idea of a grand scale Star Wars comics marathon struck me and so I started the painstaking quest to build my collection from the ground up, which was a few Finnish Marvel and Republic trade paperbacks, Luke Skywalker, Last Hope for the Galaxy compilation series and random Star Wars magazines.
At first I didn't fully plan what I would get, and I definitely didn't think the list would grow into its current Behemothian state. I just randomly acquired stories that seemed interesting or important to the saga. When my collection and knowledge grew, I started to sort the stories into an order where they would all make chronological and dramaturgical sense. That wasn't an easy job and many great ones had to be left out for the sake of unbroken continuity. In the end, however, I’ve ended up with a whole vision of Star Wars that’s artistically and thematically varied but where all stories are connected to one another and feel like logical expansions to the grand happenings. Note that I’m using the canonical order of the stories merely as an inspiration and thus there are a few obvious cases of artistic freedom in their placement.
The timeline is split into multiple sections or “episodes” which all cover different parts of the heroes’ journey. To unsubtly highlight the epic scale of my timeline, I’ve chosen a musical theme for every section based on the section’s overarching storyline and thematic elements. In case one doesn’t own soundtracks for the films already, I recommend the following Youtube Channels: #Johnwilliams, The Spirit of Classical Music.
Anyway, thanks for reading this far! At some point I will review every section of my timeline in this thread but that’s not going to happen anytime too soon (but hopefully neither too late). Special thank yous for the creators and editors of Wookiepedia’s chronological list of Legends comic as well as CCF users Confessor and thwhtguardian whose reviews have had a huge influence on the content of the list.
Above all else, thank you for showing interest towards my humble effort and be very welcome to comment, criticize and ask about anything!
