June of 1997 and unemployed for the 1st time. Thanks to decent PTO payout and unemployment check i still manage to purchase a select few comics for helping me maintain a hopeful outlook while job hunting begins through the medical world. So I end up unemployed for 6 months: June, July, August, September, October, November and start working the Monday after Thanksgiving. A lean summer but manageable as i live thriftily and nobody to support other than myself. These next 6 months short on new comics but boy was i reading up a storm from the collection i had created over the last 20 years Avengers 10 Badger 79 Crimson Plague 1 Elfquest 13 FF 10 Flash 128 Heroes for Hire 2 Hitman 17JLA 8 Ka-Zar 4Starman 33 Thunderbolts 5

Doctor Strange:What is It That Disturbs You, Stephen #1
I see that Ennis's Preacher and Morrison's The Invisibles were already on the go around this time but I didn't read them until several years later in TPB form. And I still haven't read Ellis's Transmetropolitan.

Doctor Strange:What is It That Disturbs You, Stephen #1 I remember enjoying the art in it off the stands. How was the story? From memory, very good. It's a re-working of a Doctor Strange Annual from the late 70s by Marv Wolfman and Craig Russell, which was itself one of the only Doctor Strange comics after Englehart's departure that I rate, and also one of Wolfman's best pieces outside of Tomb of Dracula. Apparently Russell wasn't satisfied with his artwork and had always wanted to take another crack at it. I can't recall if he made any changes to the script while he was at it.

Ah, so it's the exact same story, just revised. And if I own neither, that's the one to go for?

Ah, so it's the exact same story, just revised. And if I own neither, that's the one to go for? ooh, that's a tough one. I can't conceive of giving up either version so I'd say read them both and compare for yourself. P. Craig Russell would presumably recommend his revised edition and the artwork is certainly much cleaner in it but that doesn't mean it was bad in the original. Luckily, like a lot of the most interesting Marvel comics, their merits were apparently too subtle to make them expensive collectors' items so the back issues are easily found at cheap prices.
